[edit]DescriptionLost Plaque SOA Sarah Siddons 27 Upper Baker Street.png |
English: Representation of a Society of Arts plaque to the actress Sarah Siddons erected in 1876 at No.27 Upper Baker Street and re-erected by the London County Council on a replacement structure on 19th December 1905 with a supplementary plaque recording this history. The plaque was removed for a second and final time - most likely during the construction of Chiltern Court between 1927 and 1929 - and gifted by the LCC to the Theatre Museum, the object subsequently passing to the Victoria & Albert Museum. 450x450 png based on a monochrome line drawing from "Indication of Houses of Historical Interest in London - Volume I" published by the London County Council in 1907. The name of the author is given as the London County Council, the principal local government body for the County of London throughout its existence from 1889 to 1965. The individual author/artist are not named in the book. Volumes I-III include a forward by Sir Laurence Gomme, Clerk to London County Council, who died in 1915. Volume IV includes a forward by Sir James Bird, Clerk to London County Council who died in 1925. Volume VI includes a forward by George Gater, Clerk to London County Council who died in 1963. |
