Inherited from Proto-Hellenic *ágō, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂éǵeti (to be driving), from the root *h₂eǵ- (to drive). Cognate with Latin agō (I act; I do; I drive), Sanskrit अजति (ájati, he drives).
