Tracy ends barren run

Paul Tracy put his disputed second place in the Indianapolis 500 behind him to dominate the Miller Lite 250 on Sunday.

Tracy led for 184 of the 250 laps at the Milwaukee Mile to secure his first victory in a CART event since September 2000 in Vancouver - a span of 28 races.

The Canadian driver took the lead for good on lap 180 on the 1.032 mile oval when defending race winner Kenny Brack made his final pit stop.

Adrian Fernandez, who was the fastest driver through most of the weekend and started on pole position, moved into second place at the same time.

But Fernandez never got close enough to challenge Tracy.

With only 11 of the 19 starters running in the waning laps, Tracy was able to avoid traffic and keep a narrow gap ahead of his Mexican rival.

Appeal pending

He eased off the throttle near the end and finished five lengths clear.

The 33-year-old Tracy, who now has 19 CART FedEx Series victories, said this win had nothing to do with events at Indianapolis, where he had to settle for second place in a disputed finish.

Race officials ruled that his penultimate-lap passing of Brazil's Helio Castroneves came after a crash that brought out a yellow flag and locked cars into their positions.

"We got a lot of motivation," Tracy said. "I'm very motivated. We have got the ball rolling now."

As for his slim chances of having the loss overturned, he said: "It is something only time will tell.

"If it ends up the way it is now, we still had a great race and a great show."
