China Pilot Reserve
The creation of Chinese Tiger Pilot Reserves in China calls for the establishment of the Chinese Tiger Conservation Model which combines African reserve management and ecotourism management expertise, with indigenous Chinese wildlife which will be reintroduced with the Chinese Tiger as flagship. Conservation of the Chinese Tigers will be combined with unique Chinese cultural heritage to create opportunities in eco-tourism for local economic development. Like some reserves in Africa, this will bring more economic benefits to some local residents, than farming; If we would eventually improve the living conditions of local residents through eco-tourism after the establishment of pilot reserves, they might support wildlife conservation more strongly. Tiger, as well as other wildlife, is a sustainable tourist resource. If we make good use of them, it would bring more economic benefit to local residents.
Save China's Tigers' SA team has worked with the Chinese authorities in identifying two candidate Chinese Tiger Pilot Reserve sites: Zixi County of Jiangxi Province, and Liuyang of Hunan Province, after three rounds of surveys. You can download the reports below*:
