Ive never had the money to purchase one of those brutish, expensive, PC towers to crunch out the insane graphics these new game engines are pumping out (see the new battlefield 3 trailer) so I went and picked the strongest console on the market, the PS3. Now I know im sounding like a fan boy but on paper the ps3 is a monster. The super advanced cell processor, the fully capable media reader (even though it was taken out of the newer models most likely for cost reasons), the BLU RAY FORMAT (the format that one war not too long ago), and the list goes on proving that the ps3 is the console to beat, yet it isn't being treated as such. The Call of Duty effect, in my opinion, has limited the ps3 drastically. When the ps3 first came out, it was like buying a new car. All that new hardware made for a pretty penny to be handed over the counter to the local retailer. Then along comes the 360. Now during the days of the war between ps2 and xbox fan boys the winner was obvious, the ps2. It was the big man on campus and was in its senior year when the bulky new comer started selling. Then the roles reversed.

The 360 hits the market nearly a year before the ps3 and started captializing on the headstart in the same way that the ps2 did a few years prior. As units for microsoft started entering homes at a rapid rate, so did it rapidly makes it way into the hands of developers. Marketing off the success of the Halo online multiplayer, xbox realized the path to the top, multiplayer. As the Call of Duty franchise, and those like it, came out the masses already owning a 360 before the ps3 got to full steam made the 360 the ultimate contender. The price difference (a huge price difference unfortunately) and the increasing logons to the xbox network started swaying developers in to loving the 360.

Ironically enough, the complexity of the Ps3's hardware called for increased time, effort, and money to produce legitimate software on sonys console. Thus developers are forced to make the decision of exteding their market effectively or making a game quickly to sell quickly. And that's where we are now.

Having just read the Crysis 2 multiplayer review on the ps3 I realized that the trend continues. The ps3 is more than capable of handling the same if not leagues better power the xbox is boasting these days yet most cross platform games are suffering from the "port" effect. Its obvious that developers arent taking the time required to use the entire cell processor of the ps3 and the result is a lackluster image of games that are performing well on other systems. The real joke is that the games are the same price of the ones on the other side.

Now i know that times are tough and developers need to make their paychecks as well and with all the layoffs (see Activision) the market is a scary place to be pushing the release time line back in order to make a performer on all fronts. Thus the Call of Duty effect takes hold and provides a well lit avenue for games to walk down to get to market and sell safely. This effect also makes itself known in the development cycle as the days of single player only games are almost extinct. It just makes me angry.

When I first heard about crysis 2 hitting consoles i was stoked. I was further gladened to hear that it would be formated especially for ps3 (over the consoles anyways) but after reading the review and seeing the time line of its demo release lets me know that effect is alive and well and probably will be for some time. Luckily, we've got some exclusives that would make any xbox fan boy shout out jealous filled denial.

Super Rugby also colloquially referred to as Super 15 is the largest rugby union competition in the southern hemisphere. After starting as the Super 10, then Super 12 and later growing into the Super 14 competition, it then expanded to 15 teams for the 2011 season and has been rebranded as Super Rugby, with no number included. Platinum Trophy/ Achievements Unlocked

OMG, So intense! :') But what does this mean!?!

Sup IGNers. I just keep going back to the time when I got my first and only Platinum Trophy for FFXIII back in August. I've been wondering what you guys think of these achievements. Do they come into play when deciding on buying a game?(Especially for PS3) I know it's kind of a dumb system since it never existed back in the day and gaming was still awesome. But perhaps gaming now's flourishing with so many people out there wanting to be on these leaderboards and rankings. I admit I wanted and got my one and only platinum trophy for FFXIII but maybe because I wanted play every single thing the game had to offer since it was an RPG? Or perhaps I just wanted to be the first of my friends to get Platinum :/(again, this ranking thing may be getting out of hand). I thought the game was awesome though, and maybe striving for these achievements are a good way for self-satisfaction, knowing that you've completely mastered the game. From my experience, it was totally satisfying, yet kind of sad in hindsight considering spending a good 120hours to get it! Well all I can say is I've proudly set and have kept my PS3 theme to Serah Farron's(Unlocked with Platinum) and I think that's FAR cooler than the trophies themselves! Anyways! What are your opinions on these achievement points? Have you guys ever gotten 100% achievements, and if so, how was the experience? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

My experience was almost identical. Except for the fact that I was jumping around. No image of my PS3 theme though for my eyes only!

Oh and just a side note. Kongregate is the only site I play online flash games on just because of those lovely badges... D: (These achievement things are totally addicting, but for what reason!?Aghhh!!)

Bulletstrom: I'm not even sure where to start with this game, I guess the best place to start was the over the top douchebag attitude this game throws at you. This game just makes me think of Playing Serious Sam for the first time again or the first time my friend showed me Duke Nukem 3D and how bad a** I though those characters were. The way they just blew the f*** out of anyone and everything that got in there way. It was also nice to play an FPS again that doesn't take it's self seriously and don't focus on some stupid fictional or pulled from history war or a war that could happen. This was just a great change and the fact that it goes back to the day when FPS games had a huge a** boss battle against a creature that just towers over you was a great time. I remember just being so stoked when this fight happened and all I could think was the final battle In Duke or Serious Sam all over again and how great I though those boss fights were. I mean if your an FPS fan who ever played those games then make sure to pick this game up its worth the rent I would say. The other great part of this game is the "Kill with Skill" never in a game has trying to kill someone other than just shooting them in the head ever been a though in my head. It takes a bit of getting use to, but once you understand that the more creative your idea the bigger your score can be and if you can think it up its probably a kill that the game has though up and easily can rack you up some major a** points. I loved this idea of killing with skill once I got use to it, and the leash in the game is wicked makes your sick twisted dreams of killing someone in a game that much easier. I kind of wish more games would do something like this even if it was a mode unlocked after the games beat to come up with the most creative ways to kill your enemies. Thats all being said I did find myself near the end getting a little bored of how repetitive some of the kills became and how I found that the story seemed to drag on near the end, with that said lets move to the story section of this review.

The story was interesting for the most part, it was a nice change to see a game that actually looks at a story of redemption and what happened when someone is killing people for a government, only to be screwed over by it. I know this story is nothing new but the redemption part is something no one ever seems to look at, but this game does and for the most part it works. I also have to say that I don't think I have laughed so hard in a game in a while some of the lines are just so f***ing stupid that you will laugh your a** off. I found near the last chapter I was beating it just to see how it ended not cause I was enjoying myself that much anymore. The ending was predictable and you should be able to see whats gonna happen from the last two chapters on wards if your paying attention to the story. The over all story can be beat in about 6 ish hours, I did it on the hardest setting my first play through so if your use to your standard FPS difficult you should be fine at this one. In the end I say this game is definitely worth the rent, don't buy it it is way to short for 60 bucks and I mean if your like me and sick of COD and want a good laugh then this game is just what your looking for.

The NES era

Here's a new blog series. I want to thanks Sockhead for the idea for this. I am going to visit each console I had in my life and tells what the console represents for me. Like I said in previous blogs, I began playing on the Atari 2600. Yeah it was awesome. Very great times, I had with this console but it is really with the NES that the passion really began to flourish.

My mother bought me a NES for my birthday, a very long time ago. I don't even how old I was. It was after they were giving games with the console. So the decision of my first videogame was all up to me. Wow! Talk about pressure for a little kid. The choices of games was huge. From Super Mario Bros. to Ice Hockey. As a young Canadian, I was tempted to ask for Ice Hockey. So I heard of Super Mario Bros. from a friend, so my fatal decision was about to be settled. With a last look of all the games. My eyes fell on the image of Sylvester Stallone armed with a machine gun. It was from the poster of Rambo First Blood part 2. Rambo was my first love in video games. As a first love love, the result turned out sour. Unlucky, for me I didn't have the internet or a gaming magazine to help my judgement. Like many of you may know, Rambo the video game sucked. The game was confusing and all I had for as a weapon as a lousy knife to battle the fauna of the very weird jungle. My mom managed to find to trade the damn game saying it was broken. It was easy back then. I got Super Mario Bros. instead. Now were' talking.

Super Mario, like many others, was a simple but challenging game. It charmed many gamers around the world. Including my young self. After Super Mario, my addiction went only by growing in proportions. I needed more. So after that, I got Ice Hockey, Excitebike and many other great classics. Awesome times if you ask me. After that, I decided to subscribe to a new kind of magazine that I never heard of in my youth, the very famous Nintendo Power. The only reason I wanted to subscribe to the thing, they were giving away the videogame Dragon Warrior on the NES.

Dragon Warrior was my very first RPG. I was addicted to the thing. I spent many hours playing the game, sleeping very very late, even if my parents didn't approve of this. Maybe something to foreshadow my present gaming passion.

Many years later, the NES still remained part of my life many years later. While a teenager I had many parties playing multiplayer games while sharing the controller with a bunch of people but the NES really represented my childhood more then the later years.
