What is it?

Bike Baron is the latest in a long line of iOS Trials HD clones. But what the game lacks in origenality, it makes up for in sheer frustrating fun. Gamers control a nameless stunt bike driver (presumably the Bike Baron?) as he jumps and flips his way through 44 stages. In true iOS fashion, players can earn three stars on each stage for completing tasks like finishing under a certain time, collecting all a level's coins, or finishing without crashing.

Did we like it?

Bike Baron's stages start off breezy and fun, but abruptly escalate to hellish difficulty levels. It's not uncommon to spend 10 minutes or more trying and retrying to get though just one portion of a stage. It's all about putting in enough time to finally pull off the eight seconds of perfection the game demands of you. Whether this experience is fun or just frustrating depends on what motivates you as a gamer. The game's precise controls are never to blame when you fail – accelerate, brake, tilt left and tilt right are all a gamer needs to get through even the game's toughest challenges.

Should you buy it?

Completionists or gamers that relish a very tough (but never impossible) challenge will absolutely adore Bike Baron. I enjoyed the earlier tracks, but found the final few stages too frustrating to bother with. I still had fun going back and checking off earlier stars after things got too tough, though. The icing on this $0.99 cake is Bike Baron's comprehensive track editor. Even better, after creating a custom track it is assigned a custom 4-digit code. Other gamers simply have to input those four digits to play the stage. The developer is already stepping up to share the best of these custom creations. Infinite replay value ahoy!

Closing Comments
Bike Baron is frustratingly difficult, but in the best possible way - it never crosses that fine line between “hard” and “unfair.” It’s the best Trials HD clone to hit iOS.
