Shurikens are what are commonly known as throwing stars or ninja stars. They are small sharp objects that Hayabusa throws at enemies to deal damage. They don't do much damage, but they can be used at range and when jumping.
They are most useful when climbing up walls and finding enemies at the top. A Shuriken will quickly bring them down.
You are given an infinite amount of Shurikens in Ninja Gaiden 3's Story Mode, but only four in Shadows of the World.
Shurikens, like the Katana, can be used while jumping.
