TMZ is reporting that Adam Yauch, MCA from the Beastie Boys, has passed away at the age of 47.

While it's not known at this time if Yauch's death was cancer-related, the rapper/musician was treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node in 2009, undergoing surgery and radiation therapy.

Yauch leaves behind a wife, daughter and a musical legacy that dates back to 1979 when he co-founded Grammy-winning, Hall of Fame rap group The Beastie Boys. Yauch, due to his undisclosed condition, was unable to attend the Beastie's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month
