Did anyone else see the Apple iCloud presentation? This is what I can tell, if I'm correct: It uses the 18 million songs in iTunes to give you access to everything you've purchased. So instead of taking weeks to upload 200 gigs of music or whatever, you have instant access to everything you've purchased in iTunes. For everything in your library that you haven't purchased in iTunes (which is the majority of most of our libraries I think), it scans your library to see if it's available in iTunes and gives you access to it. So if you ripped/pirated a Beatles CD into your library, it will find it in iTunes and give you access to it anywhere on any of your devices. And if it doesn't have the song in iTunes, like underground mixtapes, remixes, live shows, etc; it will upload those for you. And it's $24.99 no matter the size of your library. It also does stuff for photos, calendars, contacts and all that but the music shit is what really got me. |

My main tech concern right now is my phone. I can get a new one in mid-August, and right now I'm looking at either a Droid X2 or maybe an HTC, but there has to be some shit coming out between now and then, right? I want the coolest shit. |

The thing that sucks is a lot of new shit will be coming out in the fall, right after you're looking to upgrade. But something cool will probably release between now and then. I'm interested to see what the hell the iPhone 5 will offer, because that opens up new opportunities for Android phones to one-up it in Q1 2012. |

I figure if there are no rumors by mid-August for anything definitive coming in fall, I'll just get the Droid X2 or maybe the Bionic by then. I always hate technology with such short life cycles, though, because something better is literally always right around the corner. |

Yeah, shit is moving at a more rapid rate than I can remember. Grabbed the brand new, state of the art iPad 2 like three months ago, and apparently they're announcing the iPad 3 this fall. It's annual now. If you're an upgrade whore, the good news is that the used market for a lot of this shit is booming. I bought the iPhone 4 for like $300, and then sold my unlocked iPhone 3 for over $200. |

I'm not a whore, which is why I want a bomb ass phone that won't be trumped immediately because I'll have it, like I've had every phone, for two years. |

future_nobody wrote: looks like a DroidX2 with a curved back. Why not just get the DroidX2? I'm gonna switch up to an iPhone 4 when they release the $s or 5 or whatever the hell they are calling it come September. Love my DroidX but it's a glitchy little thing and really happy with my iPad2, so I'm thinking that the iPhone 4 will be a good solid, non glitchy piece of hardware. |

Because that's got curved, rounded, steel edges is why. It's also rumored to have a 13mp rear camera. |

ahh, yeah i suppose asthetically the stainless steel does add to it's appeal and if you havn't got a decent camera 13mp cell phone camera is a definite plus. |

The iPhone works really well, and a lot of the apps and things you use for your iPad can be used on your iPhone as well. |

future_nobody wrote:Oh, and Verizon is expected to launch tiered data plans this week. I think if you have a smartphone and an unlimited plan, you get grandfathered in and can keep it. For people without smartphones, though, tough noogies. Oh man. If this is true, I'm so happy I got my contract a month ago. I got the iPhone 4 on Verizon cuz I heard the 5 wouldn't be as big an upgrade as the 4 was (and it was taking way too long to come out). Mostly likely curved glass and faster processor, but I think they'll wait for the next one to see a huge change. Maybe, I'm hearing wrong, though.
God, annual updates really do suck, though.

I don't use iTunes. I don't own an iPod. I don't own a Mac (will get an iMac next year though). I don't own an iPad. But iPhones are pretty nifty. Too bad I hate their interface. But yeah... |

Yeah, that's why a lot of it comes down to personal preference. I use iTunes a lot. I organize all of my music, my playlists, my podcasts, my movies, my apps, etc. Then I just plug in my device and it all synchs up. And now with iCloud, I won't even have to plug shit in. |

I had a hard time picking between the iphone and android, but the iphone just will keep up greater support because there's so few SKUs. The android market is so big and everywhere, I'm always afraid my specific type of android will be supported less than the newest one. At least with an iphone you know that yours is the top thing they're working with for a whole year. |

I have a buddy who is a die hard Android, anti-Apple dude and there's not a single argument he's made that has made me second guess my iPhone. He's mostly annoyed at iPhone users, not the actual phone. And it makes sense for him to have an Android, because he loves to hack shit, tinker with it and boot up emulators and such. But he's willing to put up with a more unstable, buggy device to say he can run Excitebike on his phone, and I don't give a shit about that. I'm fine with a phone that works well and plays any of the thousands of games designed for it. |

its a great phone thats all. the droid has all but copied every last feature the iphone has to offer but in the end the iphone is a better looking, better feeling, better supported phone. there is also the cool factor of being an apple user that a lot of people cant resist.
me personally i was a little tired of the operating system aesthetic of the ios and droid so i gave the windows phone a shot. so far i love it, time will tell however. |

I'd say the Droid Sense is my favorite UI. iPhones need widgets pretty bad. I'd have the Incredible if I didn't have my iPhone probably.

Oh, and Safari is lame. I heard they're starting Firefox on Droids. I want some mobile browser variety.

amen to that. my phone uses ie and its ok but it would definitely be cool if you could download and try different options as easily as you can on a regular pc or mac. |
