Connect your classroom to scientists and specialists at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station

Hear firsthand what it is like to live and work in one of the most extreme environments on Earth. Learn what people are doing at the South Pole to transform the ice into the biggest and strangest telescope in the world. See the wide range of talent it takes to develop and a run a project at the South Pole.

The Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center (WIPAC) is offering your K-12 classroom connections with scientists, technicians, graduate students, and support personnel at the National Science Foundation-run South Pole station.

IceCube is a neutrino astronomy experiment, but our South Pole team is prepared to engage students on other topics as well, such as:

  • • working in the extreme Antarctic environment
  • • the challenges of construction at the South Pole
  • • computer science
  • • understanding the Antarctic Treaty
  • • general topics in innovation, technology, and science
