So different to the movie. And far better!
Very well written in a documentary style that adds to the vivid realism. An absolute classic

Very well researched and written.
Seems crazy that I started reading/listening to this the day before the attempted assignation of Trumpov, but that is how it is and America's war with itself continues and a peaceful resolution seems even further away.
A must read.

Another Peter Fitz masterpiece that is narrated brilliantly, a very hard audio book to turn off. As is synonymous with all Peter Fitzsimmons books, the immense research and detail is woven into a wonderful human narrative of Monash, the man and the general as well as those heroic Anzacs.

Peter Fitz masterfully captures in chilling detail the horror that is war, the brutality, the humanity and immense courage of those who fought at Long Tan as well as the ludicrous ineptitude of the senior staff officers that pitched 105 Australian diggers in the path of more 2000 Viet Cong and NVA.
This book left me with myriad of emotions, from being in awe of these young men from Delta Company 6RAR and their incredible courage and tenacity, to sadness at the horrible loss and waste of young lives in war, to anger at the bewildering ineptitude and what can only be described as callous narcissism of the senior officers, who failed to communicate vital information that lead to the battle in the first place, failed dismally in their leadership roles, then denied the soldiers the recognition they so sorely deserved and took medals for themselves.
Brilliantly researched and written, a Must Read.

Not Hosker best, characters are a 2 dimensional. Narration is terrible, sounds like he’s reading to 5 year olds, struggled to finish.

What an incredible story! Most incredibly, is that, it is as Peter Fitzsimmons says in the introduction, it is such a little known story in Australia, especially on the East Coast! Such an audacious thumb nosing of British sovereignty in Western Australia by a ship under the flag of the United States of America, it has parallels to the thumb nosing of British rule at Eureka to which all Australians are taught as an integral part of our history and the Australian identity.
Brilliantly written and crafted by Peter Fitz, that this book reads more like an adventure novel than that of historical documentary.
A must read…should be part of a Australian school curriculum.

An epic fast moving conclusion to a masterpiece series brilliantly narrated by Keeble.
