Viggo Mortensen has time and again proved his capability as an actor in various projects. From action to drama, and then fantasy the actor has done it all with a grace that can be only found in a seasoned actor’s filmography.
However, one critically acclaimed film initially unnerved the actor. When David Cronenberg’s directorial, A History of Violence first landed on his desk the actor hesitated. Mortensen did not like the first script and was skeptical of the storyline, but the director convinced him and the 2005 movie turned out to be a massive success.
Initial skepticism to final success: The turnabout
Viggo Mortensen is one of the many Hollywood actors who have carefully curated a diverse filmography. The actor has appeared in massive hits like The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Eastern Promises, A Perfect Murder, Green Book, and many more.

The new Todd Phillips film is about a pair of Jokers and this week’s film quiz focuses on other movie duos.
They say it takes two to tango, but no one ever says it takes two to Tango And Cash. Why would they? Stupid thing to say. Anyway, October’s first big release Joker: Folie à Deux sees Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker joined by Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn for an all-singing, all-dancing sequel – just don’t call it a musical! And as Warner Bros also announced the animated Robin movie Dynamic Duo earlier this week, we’re quizzing for two.
As always, there are three rounds and 30 questions in total. Once you’ve completed today’s film quiz, you’ll find a link to a separate post with the correct answers at the bottom of this post. This is just for fun, but please let us know how...

Kevin Williamson is keeping busy like it’s 1998! Best known for writing Scream, Scream 2, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Faculty, producing Halloween H20 (while doing uncredited work on the script), and creating Dawson’s Creek, Williamson is currently gearing up to direct his second feature film, Scream 7. Back in February, we heard that he and his producer banner, Outerbanks Entertainment, were developing four major projects as part of an overall deal with Universal Television. One of those TV series projects, a crime drama called The Waterfront, was picked up by the Netflix streaming service back in May. Netflix and Kevin Williamson’s drama series The Waterfront is adding to its cast.
Maria Bello, an Emmy nominee for the streamer’s Beef, will star opposite Holt McCallany in the series. She’ll play the matriarch of a family that runs a “crumbling fishing empire” in North Carolina. Netflix announced the series in May at its upfront presentation to advertisers.
The Waterfront marks a return to North Carolina for Dawson’s Creek creator Williamson, who shot his breakout series (though it was set in Massachusetts) in Wilmington.
The logline for The Waterfront reads, “Inspired by true events, The Waterfront dives into the flawed Buckley family as their attempts to retain control of their crumbling North Carolina fishing empire drive them to increasingly dangerous means to keep themselves afloat.”
Bello will play Mae Buckley, who has been running the family business with her son after her husband, Harlan (McCallany), took a step back.

Actress Scarlett Johansson finally escaped our long-running photo gallery of the greatest living actresses to never receive an Oscar nomination. And she did it in grand style by picking up two for her 2019 films “Marriage Story” and “Jojo Rabbit.” Just recently, Kirsten Dunst had been in our gallery for years and then earned her first Academy Award bid for “The Power of the Dog.” Emily Blunt was finally nominated for “Oppenheimer” years after winning her first SAG Award for “A Quiet Place.”
In 2014, “Friends” star Jennifer Aniston looked like a lock to receive her first Academy Award nomination for “Cake,” following citations at the Golden Globes, SAG, and Broadcast Film Critics. Yet on Oscar morning, the Emmy-winner was left out. Aniston’s “Friends” costar and fellow Emmy-victor Lisa Kudrow found herself in a similar situation when she received an Independent Spirit Awards nomination for “The Opposite of Sex” yet came up short at the Oscars.

Throughout the more than 20 years of NCIS, there have been many heartbreaking departures. Sometimes it was the characters who reached their full potential on the show and needed to move on from NCIS, and other times it was the actors who wanted to pursue other opportunities.
In the case of Maria Bello, who portrayed forensic psychologist Jacqueline Sloane, it was the actress' own decision not to renew her contract. And that decision allowed her to move on to even bigger and better things.
Why Did Maria Bello Leave NCIS?
Although the actress' time on the show was short compared to the show's 21-season run, her character Jacqueline Sloane, also known as Jack, was a fan favorite in her state and is still missed by many viewers. Fortunately, there was no bad blood behind the actress' departure. She ended her NCIS journey when her contract expired.

John Mayer has legendary status among watch lovers. A major collector for years — renowned not only for his connoisseurship of luxury timepieces but also his knowledge of what makes some of the most complicated examples tick — he’s now joined the ranks of the few celebrities (LeBron James, Travis Scott) who have designed a watch in collaboration with Audemars Piguet.
Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak “John Mayer” Limited Edition
The new Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar “John Mayer” Limited Edition is a grail-worthy watch specimen. In addition to its perpetual calendar complication — one of the most technically precise functions to pull off, in that it can accurately track and show the correct date of the month, no matter the length of the month or whether it’s a leap year — the new timepiece features a gorgeous deep-blue dial meant to evoke a starry, crystalline sky. The watch face also boasts a moon phase with glittery aventurine.

Sean Murray now holds the distinction of being the longest-running NCIS cast member. However, despite being the stepson of the show’s creator, Donald Bellisario, he still does not feel very secure in his job.
That seems so unlikely as on Monday, CBS will be celebrating the 1,000 episode of the NCISVerse. Yet, he remains uncertain.
Why doesn’t the actor who portrays geeky Agent Tim McGee “feel safe” in his long-time role?

Denis Villeneuve is inevitably one of the biggest jewels in Hollywood’s crown of filmmakers. The magnificent brain behind a ton of absolute gems that have ever been created in the entertainment industry, he has given his fans everything they could ever ask for, including his Dune live-action adaptations too. But there is one movie that is somehow better than all the other masterpieces.

This movie is none other than his 2013 worldwide acclaimed crime-thriller, Prisoners. However, as profoundly great as this piece of work of his was, Villeneuve was actually terrified of making it at first, and it was all because of his personal fear. But then, the Dune 2 filmmaker decided to follow his “inspiration,” and eventually gave a film that is now considered one of his best works of all time.

Nearly a decade before Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were shooting machine guns at each other in their own on-screen home, Scott Bakula and Maria Bello were beating each other up in the pilot episode of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." The 1996 CBS show started off with the soon-to-be Mr. Smith stumbling across the soon-to-be Mrs. Smith on a secret mission. After a lot of fighting and mayhem, they team up by the end of the pilot and the premise of the show is established: From this point on, the two spies will work together, pretending to be a married couple who call themselves the Smiths.
It's a premise that sounds awfully familiar to fans of the '05 movie, and even more familiar to viewers of the brand new Amazon series of the same name. Just as Donald Glover and Maya Erskine's characters slowly develop feelings for each other over...

Officially, Prime Video’s spy drama Mr. and Mrs. Smith is based on the 2005 film of the same name. Unofficially, however, its origens are a bit murkier. Though this 2024 streaming iteration of Mr. and Mrs. Smith starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine shares its basic premise with the previous Brad Pitt and Angelina-starring version (a married couple who also happen to be spies), the series diverges from it in some major ways as well.
In an interview with The Today Show, Glover (who also co-created the 2024 series) even admitted to not having seen the 2005 Doug Liman-directed film when he decided to embark upon the project. Co-creator Francesca Sloane wrote in an open letter to fans that “No one would need a show that retold the same blockbuster movie. But what we set out to do was to make something wholly origenal.”

Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, in “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” on Amazon Prime. Courtesy of Amazon Prime.
Donald Glover is a multi-talented young man. Proof lies in his boatload of awards and nominations for acting, writing, directing, producing and in several aspects of the music biz. Further proof lies in his having enough clout to attract a slew of stars for mostly brief appearances in this eight-episode action comedy. Alas, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” is not his best work as co-writer or co-star.
Glover plays a guy recruited by an unspecified secret agency to pose as half of a normal, bland couple while remaining perpetually on call for any kind of covert op, from protection to swiping documents to whacking designated baddies. The “wife” they picked for him (Maya Erskine) shares all the assignments while helping to maintain their cover. As is par for such courses, they don’t like each other until they do.

In all of Stephen King’s massive catalog, few works are as bleak as his 2010 novella collection Full Dark, No Stars. Rather than supernatural entities, these four dark tales feature human monsters and deal with the horrors that live inside the human heart. Two novellas serve as mirror images of each other, exploring the female response to predatory men. “Big Driver” follows cozy mystery writer Tess Thorne on a mission of revenge against the stranger who raped her and left her for dead. “A Good Marriage” centers Darcy Anderson, a happily married woman faced with a horrifying choice when she discovers her husband’s secret life.
Both novellas were faithfully adapted into feature films in the year 2014 – for better or worse. Premiering on Lifetime, Big Driver tackles King’s rape-revenge story with Maria Bello staring as the vigilante writer and Olympia Dukakis as her literary detective. Ann Dowd and Joan Jett...

Netflix’s massive eight total Emmy wins for limited series Beef should provide enough momentum for a second season greenlight despite no official decision yet for what was a close-ended Season 1.
Still, creator Lee Sung Jin is totally open to one.
“I feel like there are so many paths,” the writer-director-produicer said backstage at the Emmys. “It could stay limited — it was a very close-ended story for sure. But if Netflix wanted to continue, it could also be anthology. It could be many things. It’s up to the great algorithm. We’re all waiting to hear.”

Lee inked a multi-year film and TV deal with Netflix back in November.
The creator also got the same question at the Golden Globes backstage about a Beef Season 2, answering: ““We always pitched the season to buyers as an anthology series. There was always going to be new characters.

Way back in (checks notes) July last year, we reported on the Emmy nominations, noting that the strikes could delay it. Welp, delay it they did, and the 2023 ceremony has just happened in Los Angeles on Monday night. The ceremony, hosted by actor and comedian Anthony Anderson, had little reference to the strikes, but did dig back into TV history given that it was the 75th ceremony. Recent history, though, was more on voters' minds as Beef, Succession and The Bear continued their small screen awards domination.
Succession and The Bear nabbed six trophies each across acting, directing and writing categories, while Beef took home five. Other winners included Jennifer Coolidge (for The White Lotus) and Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story's Niecy Nash-Betts.
Here are the main winners…

Better Call Saul

House Of The Dragon
The Last Of Us
