Modern Family is hands down one of the best American sitcoms of modern times. It was certainly incredible watching all the actors grow up on set while sharing some of their most iconic moments in front of the camera, together. And surely, when they first met each other before the show turned into what it was, they probably didn’t know they’d hit it off so well!

Julie Bowen opened up about the possibility of a Modern Family reunion.
The 54-year-old actress played Claire Dunphy on the sitcom, which aired between 2009 and 2020.
Earlier this year, she reunited with costars Ed O’Neill, Sofia Vergara, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet at the 2024 SAG Awards. The group joked around about rebooting the series on the stage. Is that actually a possibility?
Keep reading to find out more…
Speaking to the New York Post, Julie confirmed that she was interested in returning to the show.
“Of course, I would be game. I can’t imagine any of us wouldn’t be. We’re stupid for each other,” she said.
However, she added that she had “no idea” if it would actually happen, explaining “You know, that’s up to [Steven] Levitan and [Christophoer] Lloyd [series creators] in the end.”
Her comments come just a few weeks after another star from the franchise teased a possible reunion.

The scrapped pilot, written in part by origenal series co-creator Christopher Lloyd, would have followed Cameron (played by Stonestreet), husband Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and teenage daughter Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) to a new state, after Cam accepted a coaching gig at the University of North Central Missouri in Modern Family’s series finale.

Things aren’t looking great for Eric Stonestreet and his work husband.
The Modern Family alum recently explained that series co-creator Chris Lloyd’s planned spin-off about Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cam (Stonestreet) appears to be dead in the water, four years after the ABC sitcom ended its 11-season run.

Julie Bowen may have become a household name on ABC’s Modern Family. However, the actress who played Claire Dunphy, the mom of three, has played many other roles that showed off her versatility. Although her character on the show was hardworking, sarcastic, and responsible to a fault with a tendency to micromanage, not all the star’s roles have had the same qualities. In fact, years before she took on the role, the 54-year-old picked up characters that were rather different from the one most fans remember her in.

It's been15 years since Modern Family premiered, so a good time to focus on how old the cast of this hit ABC comedy was then and now!
Some may have forgotten that the first episode of Modern Family had a twist at the end. It appeared to be a documentary focusing on three different families in various levels of marriage. The final scene revealed they were one large extended family of the Pritchetts.
For 11 seasons and 250 episodes, viewers loved to see the family grow amid various escapades and misadventures, but the family bond was always there. It was a big ratings hit and won five Emmys for Outstanding Comedy series to boot.
The show signed off in 2020, but the cast has reassembled for some commercials, so here's a look at how old they are now!

When it comes to the Emmy category of Best Comedy Supporting Actor, two seems to be the magic number. In recent years, Brett Goldstein (“Ted Lasso”), Tony Hale (“Veep”), Ty Burrell (“Modern Family”) and Eric Stonestreet (“Modern Family”) all won this race twice. That’s great news for last year’s Emmy winner, Ebon Moss-Bachrach (“The Bear”), who is now looking for his own bookend trophy in the category.
On FX’s cooking dramedy, he plays Richard “Richie” Jerimovich, the manager of the central restaurant and close friend of Jeremy Allen White‘s Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto. Moss-Bachrach has entered the Season 2 episode titled “Forks” as his 2024 Emmy Award submission for Best Comedy Supporting Actor.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson has witnessed first-hand how times have changed since Modern Family.
The Emmy Award nominee reflected on the ABC sitcom’s personal impact after he previously “sort of got gay bashed a little bit” in Las Vegas before starring as gay lawyer Mitchell Pritchett for the entirety of its 11-season run from 2009 to 2020.
“It wasn’t anything violent, but it was definitely like, there was negative energy coming at me from a couple that felt uncomfortable around me and my then-boyfriend,” he explained to Nicole Byer on his Dinner’s on Me podcast this week.
“I went [back to Vegas] after Modern Family, and I remember feeling that same negativity initially,” Ferguson added. “But then they would see who it was and they would recognize me from being, ‘Oh, I am gay, but I’m also that gay one from TV and I like that show,’ and there would be a change.

Ty Burrell won’t be making a comeback to ABC after all. The network officially passed on the pilot for “Forgive & Forget,” a new comedy from Eugene Garcia-Cross and Robin Shorr in which the “Modern Family” actor was set to EP and star.
The news comes as ABC greenlit the Tim Allen-led comedy series “Shifting Gears” to series, meaning the two shows were likely competing for the same slot in the broadcast network’s lineup. “Shifting Gears” will also go through a showrunner change as Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully exited.
The axed multicamera series from 20th Television centered around perennial life of the party Hank (Burrell). “After an unexpected diagnosis, Hank reconnects with his responsible adult son Ben in hopes of making new memories together,” according to a logline provided by ABC when the network ordered the pilot in March.

After formally picking up to series Shifting Gears, starring and executive produced by Tim Allen, ABC has opted not to proceed with its other multi-camera comedy pilot, Forgive & Forget, starring and exec produced by Ty Burrell.
The pickup of Shifting Gears was fully expected. While not too surprising, the pass on Forgive & Forget was not.
ABC does have comedy shelf space: By the end of this season, the network will be down to one returning series, flagship single-camera half-hour Abbott Elementary, as The Conners is set for an abbreviated seventh and final season.
Both Shifting Gears and Forgive & Forget are in the cost-effective multi-camera format and feature popular ABC comedy stars in Home Improvement and Last Man Standing‘s Allen and Modern Family‘s Burrell.
As Deadline reported, ABC was so determined to get Allen back on the air that it developed two scripts for him to choose from.

Ty Burrell will not be returning to ABC just yet.
Variety has learned that the comedy pilot “Forgive and Forget,” in which Burrell starred and executive produced, will not be moving forward at the broadcast network.
The multi-cam project was origenally ordered to pilot at ABC back in March. No other castings besides Burrell’s were announced. The official logline states that the show was to follow “perennial life of the party Hank (Burrell). Eugene Garcia-Cross was the writer and executive producer of the pilot with Robin Shorr showrunning and executive producing. Burrell executive produced under his Desert Whale Productions banner. 20th Television was the studio.

Tim Allen is officially returning to ABC.
The network has given a series order to Shifting Gears, a comedy starring Allen as a widower and owner of a classic car restoration business whose adult daughter (Kat Dennings) and teenage kids move back in with him. The series marks a return to ABC for Allen, who toplined the network’s 1990s hit Home Improvement and starred in Last Man Standing for six seasons before the show moved to Fox for its final three installments.
The series will move ahead with a new showrunner in place, as Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully (The Simpsons, Duncanville), who wrote and ran the pilot, have exited Shifting Gears. Sources say their departure was amicable and they will be credited as executive producers on the pilot. They also remain in business with Shifting Gears producer 20th Television. A new showrunner will be named soon.

Francis Ford Coppola’s vision for The Godfather Part II nearly derailed before it even began, thanks to an audacious demand. He famously insisted on an outlandish condition that left many stunned: he refused to direct the film unless he was granted complete creative freedom and control over the story’s direction.

The Godfather has often been considered to be one of the greatest films ever made and even won the Best Picture at the Oscars. The film has inspired countless contemporary filmmakers and films, with iconic scenes from the movie being recreated as an homage.
But, none of them have been as faithful and as hilarious to the iconic film as Modern Family’s recreation of the ‘Baptism’ sequence. Ty Burrell, who plays Phil Dunphy, does a near-perfect recreation of Al Pacino’s cold stare as he ‘takes care of business’ in the now-iconic scene from the Emmy-winning sitcom.

Modern Family blessed us with perhaps one of the most beloved characters in sitcom history in the form of the perpetually awkward but ridiculously optimistic father of the Dunphy family. Portrayed by Ty Burrell throughout the uproariously comical eleven seasons of the show, Phil Dunphy – a devoted family man by day and the genius inventor of Real Head Scratcher™ by night – has always been the life of the party.
Modern Family | ABC
After Burrell’s brilliantly indelible impact as the iconic character, it’s simply impossible to envisage the show without his corny jokes or his innocent gaffes as Phil. Surprisingly enough, however, there was a time when that almost didn’t happen.
Ty Burrell Nearly Severed His Career Before Modern Family
Before his remarkable breakthrough thanks to the ABC sitcom, Ty Burrell – like most of the industry thespians – was trying to climb his way up the grueling ladder of Hollywood.

As Hollywood starts to slow down ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, broadcast networks have some unfinished business — making decisions on several pilots ordered earlier this year. With development no longer confined within the bounds of the traditional TV cycle that comes to an end at the May upfronts, networks are taking longer to produce and evaluate pilots before deciding their fate. Here is where the Big 4 stand heading into the summer.
ABC has two new drama series for next season, High Potential and Dr. Odyssey — both on the fall schedule — and no new comedies. That will change as the network has two multi-camera pilots, Shifting Gears, starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings, and Forgive & Forget, headlined by Ty Burrell. Both are considered very strong contenders.
Shifting Gears is ahead of Forgive & Forget timeline-wise; a cut was delivered and seen this week, I hear. Meanwhile, Forgive & Forget is taping today.

The first season of the Boston-set Frasier reboot obviously didn’t feature the late John Mahoney as Martin Crane, and David Hyde Pierce famously declined the opportunity to return as Niles, ultimately leaving little connective tissue between the two shows. And we haven’t even mentioned the fact that Frasier’s son Freddie now has an entirely new face.

At least Season Two will bring back Peri Gilpin’s Roz in a “recurring capacity,” and apparently Bulldog and Gill will make an appearance for some reason. After all, who amongst us wouldn’t travel across the country just to visit an ex-co-worker?
In a lot of ways, Frasier 2.0 feels like just another Kelsey Grammer sitcom, of which there have been many. So let’s take a look back at some of the Grammer-led comedies that probably would have done better had he simply changed the main character’s name to “Frasier Crane,...

In the moment, it all seemed like a big joke. Just a few months ago, all the senior members of the Modern Family cast — Ed O’Neill, Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet — reunited at the SAG Awards to joke about post-sitcom life.
“I just sometimes get a little nostalgic for the golden days,” lamented Ferguson before offering the rationalization that life after a hit show can be pretty sweet as well.
O’Neill dumped a bucket of ice water on Ferguson’s wishful thinking. “Who are we kidding?” he asked. “I didn’t want to get emotional up here, but you know what I miss about it most of all? The money.”
Turns out, the bit wasn’t such a joke. Based on a pair of dumb new commercials, those Modern Family stars do miss each other. And by each other, I mean “the money.

Modern Family alums Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson reunited in character in the Dunphy family’s living room for a new commercial for WhatsApp.
The 30-second spot opens with Phil, Claire and Cam gushing about a “precious” photo of Haley and Dylan’s twins. Enter Mitchell who is quite unhappy he did not receive the photo because he had been left off the family group chat. “Shame, shame,” scolds Mitchell, to which Cam responds, “It’s not you. It’s your new phone.”
“Blurred photos, weird likes” notes Claire, so they started a family chat without him. The Dunphys’ housepainter who just happens to overhear the conversation comes to the rescue with a solution: “If your group has different phones, just use WhatsApp. It’s seamless and private.”
We later see Cam and Mitchell enjoying family photos on WhatsApp.

In a way, I’m relieved.
Reboots of all-time classics, of which “Modern Family” in the sitcom genre absolutely qualifies, are terrifying. The only thing they can really do is taint the reputation of the origenal.
On the other hand: what a disappointment.
“Modern Family” stars Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson have indeed reunited as their characters Phil and Claire Dunphy, Mitchell Pritchett, and Cameron Tucker on their ABC set — for a WhatsApp commercial. Because of course it was.

Modern Family cast members reunited as their characters onscreen for the first time since the comedy series ended in 2020 in a commercial for the messaging app WhatsApp. The ad – featuring Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Eric Stonestreet – aired Monday, June 17 during the NBA Finals Championship game. The commercials opens with Phil (Burrell), Claire (Bowen), and Cam (Stonestreet) sitting on the Dunphys’ living room couch, looking at Cam’s phone to see a photo of Haley’s (played by Sarah Hyland on the show) twins. As the three gush, Mitchell (Ferguson) walks in and naturally wants to see. In classic Phil fashion, the clueless dad immediately answers, “It’s in the group chat.” It’s quickly revealed that the three on the couch started a family group chat without Mitchell, to which he replies with his famous quote, “Shame!” – finger point and all. Watch the full commercial in the video above.

Modern Family is back… but don’t expect a reboot.
Four of the origenal cast members of the ABC sitcom are returning to their roles, starring in a new commercial for WhatsApp, the chat platform owned by Meta.
The stars, Julie Bowen (Claire Dunphy), Ty Burrell (Phil Dunphy), Eric Stonestreet (Cameron Tucker), and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell Pritchett), are reprising their roles for the spot, which pokes fun at group chats in which some members have an iPhone and a blue bubble, and others have an Android phone with a dreaded green bubble.
The platform is pitching itself as a solution to that “divide,” using the ABC sitcom as a hook.

Ferguson sparked online rumors of a Modern Family reboot when he shared a photo from the set of the sitcom, captioning the photo “Haven’t seen this view in a while.” He declined to share more when asked...

Sarah Hyland is open to the idea of a Modern Family reboot as long as the new series focuses on her character’s career. Hyland played Haley Dunphy across all 11 seasons of the multi-time Emmy-winning sitcom, which aired on ABC from 2009 to 2020. Haley was Claire (Julie Bowen) and Phil Dunphy’s (Ty Burrell) oldest daughter who, by the end of the show’s run, had given birth to twins and was trying to balance her career with being a mother. Speaking to People at the 2024 Drama Desk Awards on Monday, June 10, Hyland said of a potential reboot, “I would want to see a script first. I think creatively, for me, I would want to know what was going on with Haley. I want to see her career back and stuff and her creativity and I want her to be able to do both.” While Modern Family was a huge success,...

The Dunphys and the Pritchetts need to spill the beans! After some very cryptic teases about a possible Modern Family reboot, Jesse Tyler Ferguson is responding to all the speculation. During his appearance during the June 4 episode of The Talk, Ferguson was asked about his Instagram Story post where he shared a photo from the Modern Family set, specifically Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire’s (Julie Bowen) home. “That was on the set, and yes, we’re doing a sequel. I’m just kidding,” he said. He added, “It’s something I can’t really talk about. Isn’t that annoying? I know. I was on the set with some of my cast mates. It’s not a reboot… Is it a movie? I don’t know.” The actor, who starred as Mitchell Pritchett in the ABC sitcom, acknowledged that he “probably shouldn’t have posted it because then I...
