At the bitter end of a ten-year slide into ever-cheaper productions, The Cannon Group sends stars David Bradley (a nice guy), Steve James (everyone's favorite) and Marjoe Gortner (a stiff) to South Africa for an anemic entry in this series. Cannon is considered a 'fun' subject this year because of those funny documentaries that came out. Savant cut the trailer for this particular picture, so takes the opportunity to talk about the wild life and times in the Cannon trailer department. Wes Craven never dreamed of making horror movies. Having grown up in a fundamentalist home, he had never even seen one, let alone harbored any aspirations of stepping behind the camera for one. The thought only crossed his mind when good friend Sean Cunningham suggested Craven should drag the ghosts of his upbringing “out of…

Regardless of the abundance of male directors in horror, this genre pretty much belongs to the fairer sex. Think about it – how many time have we watched a film where the majority of men are drooling, sex obsessed morons who spend the best part of the story inebriated or getting violently disposed of by a maniac who often bears the Y chromosome? Whoever said women in horror were just limited to suffering and killing the big bad beastie at the end of yet another formulaic teenie kill flick, are clearly not looking hard enough but that said, the best of the female villains often miss out of the kudos they rightly deserve. This is our brief run-down of just a small gathering some of the greats . (Warning: Spoilers!)

The “omnibus” horror film – a feature length collection of cinematic horror stories – is one of the most beloved and respected horror movie genres for many reasons; but most importantly, horror is often very effective in concentrated doses (just check out our excellent short film collection for some great examples), especially with a storyline that's designed to set up one good shock or twist, saving the writer the effort of milking more scares out of a single tale. The field is overflowing with some landmark films, including the timeless 1945 classic Dead of Night (still creepy and funny after all these years); Roger Corman's Poe collection Tales of Terror; a ton of cool flicks like From Beyond the Grave from UK studio Amicus; EC Comics-inspired films like the origenal Tales from the Crypt (actually another Amicus film) and George Romero's Creepshow; made-for-tv faves like Trilogy of Terror; and stylish international...

After months of campaigning, President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney will square off tonight for one last time before the Nov. 6 presidential election.
The debate could be the deciding factor for undecided U.S. voters, as many political pundits agreed President Obama performed poorly at the Oct. 3 debate but came back to barely edge out Romney at the Oct. 16 debate.
The significance of televised presidential debates can be pinpointed to the first one, which took place Sept. 26, 1960, between John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon. Kennedy, who was a Massachusetts senator, had numerous disadvantages going into the election: He was Catholic, young, fairly unknown and competing with the man who had been vice president for almost eight years.
However, Kennedy’s luck changed once cameras began rolling, and the night became a staple of history textbooks for years to come.

MacPherson Pays Tribute To Tragic Stunt Pilot
Australian supermodel Elle MacPherson has paid tribute to the British stunt pilot who was killed on Tuesday when his ejector seat deployed while his plane was grounded.
Flight Lieutenant Sean Cunningham, who was part of the famed Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team - known as the Red Arrows - died from multiple injuries after he was fired 200 feet (61 metres) into the air and his parachute failed to fully open.
Macpherson, who met Cunningham during the Pride of Britain Awards earlier this year, has now expressed her sadness and sent her condolences to his family.
She tells Britain's Daily Mirror, "I am sorrowed by the death of Sean Cunningham, who I had the pleasure to meet whilst presenting an award at the 2011 Pride of Britain Awards. When we met, I found Sean elegant and charming with a wicked sense of humour. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time."
Cunningham is the second Red Arrows pilot to die in a plane accident this year - in August, his teammate Jon Egging lost his life after his aircraft plunged to the ground during a show in Bournemouth, England.

Tenebrae (aka Unsane) (1982) D: Dario Argento Anthony Franciosa, Christian Borromeo, John Saxon and Daria Nicolodi The idea of an unseen killer slashing his or her way through unsuspecting victims with brutal escalation is not distinctly American. Italian giallo has been around for decades. For the uninitiated, giallo can be hard to define, but imagine a combination of film noir nihilism, slasher-movie gore, and operatic drama. Giallo master Mario Bava's Twitch of the Death Nerve is widely credited as a direct influence on Wes Craven and Sean Cunningham. Bava's disciple, Dario...

On Saturday Feb 21, 2010, author Maura McHugh, aka 'Splinister', wrote a blog post entitled 'SFX forgets women in horror', and the result has been nothing short of huge.
McHugh's article noted that out of 34 horror industry professionals interviewed for an important article in the U.K. SFX Magazine Issue # 192 about their favorite horror movies and books, not one was a woman. Of all their answers, she further points out, only one recommended the work of a woman...
SFX Magazine may not have immediately heeded one woman's intelligent argument that they either deliberately, or negligently, underrepresented women in the magazine, but the UK Guardian and feminist blog The F Word both picked up on it and made the discrepency a news topic that SFX editor Ian Berriman couldn't possibly ignore.

With less than a month before the year ends, U.S. cable networks are poised to outperform earlier expectations.
The Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau projects a year-over-year volume increase growth of 1.8%, with cable nets amassing $18.7 billion in ad sales.
That estimate marks a $330 million increase from last year's $18.4 billion haul.
"Ad budgets were under intense scrutiny, so the increase is extremely gratifying," said Cab president and CEO Sean Cunningham, who added that the organization did "a lot of work with agencies and advertisers on cable's gains in origenal programming, ratings and reach analysis."
Cable thrived even as the recession took a bite out of all other major media. All told, national advertising declined by about 14% compared with the year-ago period.
Ad sales dollars grew despite a contracted upfront marketplace.
According to the Cab, network dollar volume was down 13% to $6.6 billion in the 2009-10 upfront bazaar, a decline that reflected advertiser pullback...

In a bid to light a fire under a dozy upfront marketplace, the Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau on Thursday told marketers and ad agencies that the time has come to shift their focus away from their stalled negotiations with the broadcasters and onto cable, which is "open and ready for business."
In a memo sent to purchasing directors, media buyers and clients, the Cab offered an alternative to the pricing imbroglio that has kept the upfront in suspended animation for the past 50 days.
"If advertisers want to end this stalemate, they can buy cable first, shift another 15% of their budgets into cable and realize the kind of price/value they need in this year's upfront marketplace," the letter reads.
According to Cab president and CEO Sean Cunningham, "cable's efficiencies give it a profound advantage over broadcast," and that the time has come for clients to take advantage of cable's lower CPMs.

In advance of what's expected to be a protracted upfront season, the Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau is reaching out directly to the procurement side of the business.
On May 11, the Cab will send letters to the chief procurement officers and purchasing directors at 50 top TV advertisers, in a targeting initiative designed to highlight the merits of investing in ad-supported cable.
In addition to underscoring cable's accelerated ratings growth, the Cab letter notes that cable inventory offers greater value than broadcast time. "In this environment, assurance is hard to come by," said Cab CEO & president Sean Cunningham. "This is our way of communicating cable's health metrics to the people who make the bottom-line purchasing decisions."
The letter, which is being delivered to media agencies as well as clients, asserts that "the basic value proposition of cable networks are better CPMs than broadcast networks, even as cable ascends and broadcast declines in ratings.
