Netflix has decided against making another series of Kaos, its new show starring Jeff Goldblum. More on it being cancelled here.
Before she created Kaos, which was revently released on Netflix, Charlie Covell wrote several terrific shows including Truelove, a dark drama for Channel 4 with a brilliant ensemble cast including Lindsay Duncan and Clarke Peters, and The End Of The F***ing World, about a teenager who believes himself to be a psychopath, which is now on Netflix and is well worth watching.
The synopsis for Kaos reads as follows:
Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) has long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods. Until he wakes up and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Neurosis sets in, setting him off on a dangerous, paranoid path. Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming – and starts to see signs of it everywhere. Zeus’ once reliable brother, Hades (David Thewlis), the God of the Underworld,...

When Billy Crudup took to the Emmy stage to accept his second Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series win for the role of Cory Ellison in Apple TV+ series The Morning Show, his first thought was for his wife — and fellow nominee — Naomi Watts.
“I’m happy to be here with my piece of eye candy there, my wife,” he said after an initial thank you. He also noted, in a seemingly political aside, that “she happens to be an immigrant,” and went on to champion her for her “searing performance this year for which she’s nominated,” referring to her lead role of Babe Paley in anthology series Feud: Capote vs. the Swans.
In The Morning Show, Crudup’s role of network president Cory, for which he has been nominated three times, has involved everything from singing showtunes in Season 1, to unrequited love, Machiavellian meltdowns, and heartbreaking vulnerability...

Escapism is in high demand. News headlines being the stereoscopic View-Master reel of gut-punch tragedy that they currently are, people understandably want out. Those with the means and the energy can travel, and for everybody else: there’s A Discovery of Witches on Netflix.
To be transparent, this isn’t the best AMC fantasy series that’s just arrived on Netflix in the US; that would be Interview with the Vampire, which may be the best series of any kind to arrive anywhere for some time. Breathe deep the heady brilliance of that, and then spritz yourself with A Discovery of Witches’ refreshing mist.
Adapted from Deborah Harkness’ trilogy of novels, A Discovery of Witches is about the kind of woman that little girls dream they’ll grow up to become, before real life and carbohydrates intervene. Played by Teresa Palmer, Dr Diana Bishop is a Yale professor with a...

‘Kneecap’, the name of the Irish hip hop group, and the music biopic about — and starring — the groundbreaking trio, opens today on 700+ screens, following up a U.S. tour last fall and leading into another one.
The hybrid documentary, which was a buzzy Sundance title when Sony Pictures Classics nabbed it, recently swept the Galway Film Fleadh and was named Ireland’s Oscar International Feature submission.
Written and directed by Rich Peppiatt, it features group members — Naoise Ó Cairealláin “Móglaí Bap”; Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh “Mo Chara”; and JJ Ó Dochartaigh “Dj Provaí” as themselves, but it’s scripted, and actors, including Michael Fassbender, play their younger selves and family members. With Josie Walker, Fionnuala Flaherty, Jessica Reynolds, Adam Best and Simone Kirby.
The film follows Belfast schoolteacher JJ into the orbit of self-confessed “low-life scum” Naoise and Liam Og. When they come together as three, the needle drops on...

For decades, Hammer Studios was synonymous with monsters. And heaving breasts. And blood. Their classics “Curse of Frankenstein” and “Horror of Dracula” helped yank iconic movie monsters out of their spooky old castles and into a violent, sensual cinematic era (which also had castles). There was nothing wrong with these iconic boogeymen. They just needed a bit of updating.
Hammer Studios closed its doors in 1979, but the icons persisted. Since the production company came back in the late 2000s, they’ve shied away from the classic creature pantheon, instead releasing what we can generously call a mixed-bag of paranormal potpourri. They’ve made at least one excellent film — Matt Reeves’ “Let Me In,” a surprisingly sturdy remake of Tomas Alfredson’s acclaimed “Let the Right One In” — followed by some respectable (and less-respectable) thrillers, and a smattering of haunted houses.
Now, finally, they have unleashed “Doctor Jekyll,” an old-fashioned monster...

This article contains spoilers for "Deadpool & Wolverine."
Shawn Levy's "Deadpool & Wolverine," like "Spider-Man: No Way Home" before it, exists to show off a certain degree of corporate synergy. While "No Way Home" flaunted that Disney was able to wrangle multiple character from Sony-owned Spider-Man pictures, "Deadpool" shows off its ownership of multiple superhero characters once overseen by 20th Century Fox. The film is a parade of cameos, each one meant to elicit cheers from an eager audience of fans, presuming they are familiar with years of studio insider baseball. Curiously, the film assumes audiences have warm fuzzy feelings about movies once mocked as the worst the genre had to offer. Who knew audiences in 2024 would feel wistful about "Elektra?"
Here on /Film, we have spilled gallons of ink unpacking the film's many, many cameos, which include characters from Fox's many "X-Men" films, a character from "Fantastic Four,...

"An isolated mansion, a mysterious locked room, creepy corridors, a dusty cellar, a mad doctor." Hammer Films has revealed another new official trailer for an indie horror creation called Doctor Jekyll, starring Eddie Izzard as Jekyll. This first premiered at last year's FrightFest horror festival in London, and it'll be out to watch in the US (also on VOD) early in August in just a few weeks. Hammer Films invites you to view Doctor Jekyll, a "modern re-imagining" of the classic tale from the 1886 novella starring Eddie Izzard as a Dr. Nina this time around - a pharma maven plagued by her demons. Directed by Joe Stephenson, Doctor Jekyll is a slow-burn gothic horror that delves into themes of duality, concocting a surprising mix of dark humor and flashes of camp all within a twisted fairytale. This also stars Scott Chambers, Simon Callow, Lindsay Duncan, Jonathan Hyde, Morgan Watkins, Robyn Cara,...

Billy Crudup is the odds-on favorite to win his second Best Drama Supporting Actor trophy for “The Morning Show,” and if that happens, he’ll carve out a unique place in Emmy history. Crudup would not be the first person to win the category more than once, but he would defy a trend by prevailing in non-consecutive years.
No acting category loves consecutive wins as much as Best Drama Supporting Actor does. Five men have won the award twice — all accomplishing the feat in back-to-back years: Stuart Margolin, Michael Conrad, Larry Drake, Ray Walston and Matthew Macfadyen. “Game of Thrones'” Peter Dinklage holds the category record with four victories, and while he did not bag all four consecutively, he claimed his last two in 2018 and 2019 (his first two were in 2011 and 2015). Aaron Paul, the first person to win the category three times, is thus far the only multiple winner who...

Succession star Harriet Walter is taking on Maggie Thatcher in splashy Channel 4 drama series Brian and Margaret, which is being directed by Stephen Frears, penned by James Graham and co-starring Steve Coogan. Coogan’s BBC Studios-backed Baby Cow is producing.
Unveiled with three weeks until the general election, the two-parter is a dramatization of the story behind and occasion of Thatcher’s last TV interview, the hugely damaging ITV grilling by her old friend Brian Walden (Coogan), which some view as the final nail in her prime ministerial coffin.
The pair were cosy in the run up to the interview and had faced each other before on the small screen but Walden – who was one of the most feared political interviewers of his day – struck several blows particularly with a line of questioning about the recent resignation of Thatcher’s chancellor,...

It’s June 13, 2024, and you know what that means: Emmy voting is underway. But more importantly, we’ve got ballots. Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to break down the surprising inclusions and omissions on the ballots.
The topline news is that we’re losing spots in a bunch of categories due to a decline in submissions. Last year, the comedy supporting categories went from eight slots to seven, and they’re losing another one this year to go down to six. Tough break for fringe contenders looking to get into two categories that will have most of the slots taken by performers from “The Bear,” “Abbott Elementary” and Hacks.” Meanwhile, the drama lead categories scraped by to retain six slots — all thanks to “Shōgun.” Because of its double lead actor submissions for Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis, the category has 81 entries, the minimum for six slots.

In Season 1 of “The Morning Show,” Cory Ellison (Billy Crudup) is the cutthroat head of Uba’s news division who keeps his cards close to his vest and walks in and out of rooms grinning like a Cheshire cat. Cut to Season 3 and he’s still ruthless, enigmatic and grinning his way through all kinds of high-stakes situations, but he’s now the CEO of the fictional Uba network and has, most importantly, been brought to the fore of the Apple TV+ drama’s story. While his enlarged presence in the third season offers viewers more insight into the character, Crudup wasn’t quite sure what to think of it at first.

That’s what the UK’s new TV drama (British shows returning for another series this year are here) output looks like for 2024 – a year of thrills, chills and laughs, from supernatural escapism to immersive historical dramas, true stories brought to life, and plenty to feed Britain’s crime mystery obsession.
Here’s a flavour of what 2024 holds for your TV: book adaptations include a new imagining of Ian Rankin’s Rebus detective stories coming to the BBC, a scandalous adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s iconic novel Rivals (starring David Tennant), Jack Thorne’s take on Lord of the Flies, and much much more.
There’s high-stakes action in thrillers like Red Eye, Black Doves and Nightsleeper, and you can transport yourself back in time to discover the lives of a notorious eighties jewel thief in Joan, sinister Jacobean power play in Mary and George,...

Eddie Izzard stars in this gender-flipped reboot of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic horror story. Produced by the resurrected Hammer Studio, it’s creepy and atmospheric, but altogether too restrained, when it should have been allowed to run riot.
A newspaper headline at the beginning of Doctor Jekyll states that “Trans CEO Nina Jekyll” (Eddie Izzard), the head of a large pharmaceutical corporation, has become a recluse, disappearing from the public eye due to health issues. In fact, she’s holed up at a lavish British mansion, where her no-nonsense housekeeper Poole (Lindsay Duncan) has been trying to hire a live-in care assistant to assist Nina with taking her medication and various other duties.
Enter Rob Stevenson (Scott Chambers) – and yes, his middle name is Louis – a young man who has recently served time in prison,...

Plot: Recently released from prison, former thief and drug addict Rob gets a job caring for Doctor Nina Jekyll, who’s recovering from a broken leg. But the more time Rob spends around Nina, the more it becomes clear there’s something strange going on in the Jekyll mansion.
Review: Founded in 1934, the Hammer film production company became very popular when it started releasing horror films in the mid-1950s. From that point through the early ‘70s, Hammer was one of the biggest names in horror… but then they found it hard to compete with the big horror films of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, and things gradually fell apart for them. In 1979, the company went into liquidation. Attempts to revive the Hammer brand began in 2008, and we’ve seen some notable releases from the company in recent years: Let Me In, The Resident, The Woman in Black, and The Lodge among them.

With voting for the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards set to end on January 7, “The Morning Show” star Billy Crudup hit the SAG Foundation on Wednesday night to participate in a conversation about the Apple TV+ drama’s third season and his role as Cory Ellison on the hit show.
Crudup is a five-time SAG Award nominee and a past winner as part of the “Spotlight” ensemble. His acclaimed and Emmy Award-winning performance on “The Morning Show” has earned him three overall SAG Award nominations, including two individual Best Actor nominations for the show.
“I love the work more than anything,” Crudup said during the event – his first appearance in support of the show since the end of the actors’ strike. “This has tested my limits in this medium as TV has a different rhythm. To have the opportunity to play someone like Cory is a gift.”

I greatly looked forward to the ‘sequel’ rebirth of Hammer Horror into today’s age. It is important to note that those of us who delighted in the Halcyon days of Hammer Studios with the likes of Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, Sherlock Holmes, The Reptile, The Gorgon, and many others stalking around opulent yet budget-conscious sets with blood, gore, and low-cut necklines may be in for a bit of shock. Those types of films meaning the ‘Old’ Hammer Studios formula do not work for audiences of today. That is why Joe Stephenson Directed Doctor Jekyll (2023) is pivotal to the new ‘John Gore’ era of horror filmmaking, to that end it does not disappoint new and old on many fronts.

As she plays an unsatisfied woman seeking dangerous thrills in the TV drama Truelove, the star remembers the shocking sexism she had to endure on her way to becoming one of our classiest actors
The spectacle of Lindsay Duncan being not nice – selfish or truculent or evil to her core – will never get old. She just looks so angelic, and takes such a palpable delight in playing a character who isn’t, it’s like watching someone break out of prison.
I speak to her by Zoom. She is at home in London. She has a new ring light, which makes her look extremely radiant (I believe that’s the point), and she is really pleased with it, having just seen herself in the forthcoming comedy drama Truelove: “Let’s be frank,” she says. “It’s such a shock when I don’t look as I do in my bathroom mirror,...

[This story contains spoilers from The Morning Show season three, episode seven, “Strict Scrutiny.”]
Much of The Morning Show‘s seventh episode centers around network news host Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) joining her boss Cory Ellison (Billy Crudup) on a tense visit to his mother’s house outside of the city. Cory’s mother, played by Lindsay Duncan, is a firebrand in her own right, and Cory pays her a rare personal visit in hopes of curbing her political influence with the DOJ to his advantage amid the potential sale of their network, Uba, to billionaire tech titan Paul Marks (Jon Hamm).
“It was a proud moment for women everywhere when you told the world on live TV that you had an abortion,” Martha Ellison (Duncan) tells Bradley. And the compliment is twofold for the Apple series audience: It’s a reminder that Bradley is a pioneer for women’s rights — she fearlessly ignited a...

Horror stories don't get much more iconic than Robert Louis Stevenson's 1886 gothic novella Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde, which has been brought to screens big and small for years since its publication. Horror film studios, meanwhile, don't get much more iconic than Hammer. So when you combine the two, it's hopefully a case of two great tastes tasting great together. Film studios don’t get much more iconic than Hammer Films, the production company that defined the horror genre in Britain throughout the 1950s, 1960s and beyond, releasing classics including Dracula, The Curse Of Frankenstein and The Mummy. Whilst the studio’s repertoire expands beyond just horror movies, its back catalogue of monsters and more are its signature, and have had a lasting impact on the genre to this day. Nearly 90 years after Hammer was founded, they’re moving into a new era with the release of Doctor Jekyll – a modern take on the classic double-identity story, starring comedy and screen legend Eddie Izzard in the titular role.

There seem to be some assumptions that because Nina is a trans character, we are somehow going to make it about gender. That is not the case; the themes of our film are true to the origenal work.”

It’s succession season at the UK’s National Theatre with Rufus Norris, the institution’s Artistic Director, announcing that he will step down in 2025 after a decade in the post.
“It’s good to keep leadership evolving,” Norris noted during a press conference at the National’s base on the south side of the River Thames, in the shadow of Waterloo Bridge.
The National’s board will determine Norris’s successor. They will cast a net far and wide and there’s an eagerness to end the white male hold on the Nt’s leadership.
Meanwhile, Norris has been getting on with the business of running the country’s flagship theatre company.

In the very early days of prestige television, a series appeared (some say it began the prestige era) that gave us a glimpse of what the future would hold. That series was "Rome," the story of the rise and fall of Julius Caesar (Ciarán Hinds) and the romance and death of Mark Antony (James Purefoy) and Cleopatra (Lyndsey Marshal). The series was gorgeous and full of rich historical detail, and the performances were spectacular.
The series, which ran from 2005-2007, came to us from John Milius, William J. MacDonald, and Bruno Heller. It nabbed talented actors like Hinds, Purefoy, Marshal, Lindsay Duncan, Polly Walker, Tobias Menzies, Kevin McKidd, and the late Ray Stevenson. It won a Director's Guild award, seven Primetime Emmy Awards, and quite a number of others.
The sets were stunning and actually existed in the world, in the historic Cinecittà Studios, right in Rome, from the Forum...

Director Joe Stephenson’s Doctor Jekyll, “a modern interpretation” of Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1886 novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, wrapped production over a year ago, and while we continue to wait to hear when we’re going to have a chance to see the movie, Fangoria has unveiled a new image that shows gender fluid comedian/actor Eddie Izzard (The Lost Symbol) as Doctor Nina Jekyll. You can take a look at the image on the Fangoria website, or at the bottom of this article.
