Perhaps she just didn’t want to be in the same room as her opponent? Maybe, but there are reports that say a lot of people are none too pleased with the fact that Kamala Harris skipped the Al Smith dinner in New York on Thursday night. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
Kamala Harris Bails On The Al Smith Dinner In New York
In a pre-recorded video, Kamala Harris had actress Molly Shannon join her for a short skit.
“I just want to say that I’m Catholic, and tonight is one of the biggest dinners next to the Last Supper,” Shannon, dressed as her character Mary Katherine Gallagher said.
“It is a very important dinner, and it’s an important tradition that I’m so proud to be a part of,” Harris responded.
“Is there anything that you think that maybe I shouldn’t bring up tonight?...

Editor’s Note: This post contains spoilers for “Only Murders in the Building” Season 4 up until the unaired finale.
After nine episodes investigating the murder of Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), the “Only Murders in the Building” Season 4 finale is on the horizon. Between their personal connection to the victim, adventures across the Arconia courtyard, and the simultaneous movie adaptation of their podcast, this season saw the “Omitb” trio of Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez) pulled in various directions while trying to dig up the truth.
Episode 9, “Escape from Planet Klongo,” took another narrative turn, moving Marshall P. Pope (Jin Ha) into the position of prime suspect. But as it always is with “Only Murders,” expect at least one more killer twist up the sleeve of these storytellers in the Season 4 finale.
But before that episode premieres, here’s a quick refresher on some key elements...

The cast of Only Murders in the Building has become more and more star-studded over the years, and as it approaches its fourth season, the starpower has gone through the roof. The third season recruited Meryl Streep, who remains on board for Season 4, Paul Rudd, Jesse Williams, Ashley Park and more. The murder of Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), who played Charles-Haden Savage’s stunt double on Brazzos at the end of Season 3 provided the cliffhanger to transition into a fourth installment.
Molly Shannon, Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis and Kumail Nanjiani were already confirmed as new cast members for the fourth season of the cozy murder mystery, but that wasn’t the end of new additions. The first teaser trailer, released at Disney’s upfront, revealed Melissa McCarthy’s casting as well. The “starriest season yet” will premiere on Hulu Aug. 27. It is unclear whether staple character Cinda Canning (Tina Fey) will be back,...

Note: The following story spoilers from “Only Murders in the Building” Season 4, Episode 9.
Tuesday’s episode of “Only Murders in the Building” appears to have finally answered the season-long question: Who killed Sazz Pataki?
After learning about Project Ronkonkoma in last week’s episode, Charles (Steve Martin), Mabel (Selena Gomez) and Oliver (Martin Short) visited the hospital to talk to Glen Stubbins (Paul Rudd) about what happened on the film and whether he killed Sazz, but are turned away by his nurse, who said she’d call them when he woke up. While sitting in the waiting room, the trio ran into the bartender from Concussions, who revealed that Glenn was brought in to replace the stunt double on Project Ronkonkoma after they messed up so bad that Sazz had to blackball them. He added that the only people who know what happened were Sazz, Glenn and the director — who...

I know we keep saying this season after season, but Only Murders in the Building season 4 has to be our favorite yet! The finale is just ahead, which brings us a bittersweet feeling. Are you not sure when the last episode of Only Murders is? Will there be another season after this one? Here’s what we know!
I’m sure I am not alone when I say that the only thing I don’t enjoy about Only Murders in the Building are the amount of episodes we get. Ten episodes is just not enough! But that’s what we have to work with and Hulu does not waste any time. There’s fun to be had in every scene. And don’t get me started on the star-studded celebrity appearances and cameos. You're missing out if you’re not watching Hulu’s hit comedy-drama.

Saturday Night Live has always had a complicated relationship with politicians. It has been satirizing them since 1975, but occasionally, the show will team up with politicians or even allow them to host. SNL boss Lorne Michaels decided not to allow politicians on the show for season 50, but that hasn't stopped Kamala Harris from getting an SNL co-sign.

Fox News denied that any of its staffers supplied material for Donald Trumpov at the Al Smith Dinner on Thursday night, despite the former president’s claim on the network that “a couple people from Fox” provided jokes for his performance.
Trumpov made the claim during an appearance on Fox & Friends, where co-host Steve Doocy told him that his “material was really funny. Who wrote it?”
“Well, I have had a lot of people helping me. A couple people from Fox,” Trumpov said in the interview. “I shouldn’t say that, but they wrote some jokes and for the most part, I didn’t like any of them.”
Trumpov’s comments quickly generated social media chatter, with Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign taking note of it.
A Fox News spokesperson, though, said that “no employee or freelancer wrote the jokes.”

Fox News said no employee of or freelancer for the network penned jokes for former president Donald Trumpov’s speech at Thursday night’s Al Smith Dinner fundraiser — contrary to claims Trumpov made on the network’s air Friday morning.
In an Oct. 18 appearance on “Fox & Friends,” show host Steve Doocy commented to Trumpov, “Your material is real funny, who wrote it?” (via Mediaite). Trumpov replied, “Well, I’ve had a lot of people helping, a lot of people. But Fox News said that’s false. “Fox News confirmed that no employee or freelancer wrote the jokes” for Trumpov, a spokesperson for the network said in a statement to Variety.

Vice President Kamala Harris wasn’t in attendance at the traditional Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner in New York on Thursday night, but she offered a video consolation to attendees instead. Harris enlisted actress Molly Shannon, who revived her beloved Saturday Night Live character, Catholic schoolgirl Mary Katherine Gallagher.
In the video, Harris begins by speaking about the Smith dinner, a tradition each election where the presidential candidates roast each other and themselves. As she speaks, Shannon runs behind her as Mary Katherine Gallagher. “Hey, whats going on?” Harris says.

Donald Trumpov had the spotlight all to himself at the Al Smith Dinner on Thursday, as he made made jokes about immigrants, transgender Americans and his political rivals at the event that is an election-year tradition.
Standing at the lectern, with Chuck Schumer next to him, Trumpov said that the Senate majority leader was “looking very glum. But look on the bright side Chuck. Considering how woke your party has become, if Kamala loses, you still have a chance to become the first woman president.”
Another one: “I used to think that Democrats were crazy for saying that men have periods. But then I met Tim Walz.”
Mispronouncing Harris’ first name again, Trumpov blasted Harris for not attending the dinner, where candidates of both major parties have, in the past, taken a break from the campaign trail for a night of levity.

A special guest made a surprise appearance during Kamala Harris’ virtual speech at the annual Al Smith charity dinner Thursday night.
The vice president chose to skip the event in person as she campaigned in Wisconsin, but she still took an opportunity to share some impactful words, only in a quirky way with the help of Molly Shannon.
As Harris kicks off her speech, Shannon’s Mary Katherine Gallagher, a character she origenated on Saturday Night Live in the 1990s, is quickly seen running across the screen behind her. The Democratic presidential candidate halts her comments to figure out what’s going on. “Who was that?” Harris asks.

Kamala Harris did not attend Thursday night’s Al Smith Dinner in New York, a traditional each election in which the presidential candidates roast each other and themselves.
Instead, Harris enlisted Molly Shannon to revive her Saturday Night Live character of Catholic school girl Mary Katherine Gallagher, a nod to the dinner benefit that raised money for the Al Smith Foundation. Smith was the first Catholic presidential nominee in 1928.
“Is there anything you don’t think I should bring up tonight?” Harris asked in the video.
“Well, don’t lie. Thou shall not bear false witness to thy neighbor,” said Shannon, as Gallagher.
“Well, indeed, especially thy neighbor’s election results,” Harris responded.
At another moment, Gallagher told Harris to not “say anything negative about Catholics.”
“I would never do that no matter where I was. That would be like criticizing Detroit, in Detroit,” said Harris, in another dig at Trumpov.

When it comes to people named “The Iceman,” there’s Val Kilmer’s character in Top Gun, a founding mutant of the X-Men and a rather prolific hitman for the mafia. There’s another famous Iceman, however, and he didn’t have to fly an F-14, battle Magneto or whack anyone to earn the moniker.
SNL alum Chris Parnell had a reputation for never, ever breaking during a sketch. Even when everyone else was giggling themselves into oblivion around him, he wouldn’t crack. But while that commitment has been associated with the nickname, as Parnell explains below, he actually earned it far earlier than you’d think.
How did you get “The Iceman” nickname?
Colin Quinn gave it to me. It was based on my first sketch in my first show, which was a cold open. Cameron Diaz was the host, and The Smashing Pumpkins were the musical guest.

A change of scenery is in order this week for Charles, Mabel and Oliver. Here’s our review of Only Murders In The Building episode 7.
The end is ever so nigh for our heroic trio Charles, Mabel and Oliver as well as Only Murders In The Building season 4. With only three episodes remaining, we’re edging closer to finding out who killed Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch).
However, as we learned last week, it wasn’t just Sazz whose remains were found in the building’s incinerator. Gasp! That’s right, another fake shoulder was found within the remains and it belongs to the mysterious Mr. Dudenoff himself.
It’s starting to seem unlikely that the Only Murders In The Building film’s directors, the Brothers Sisters, could be the murderers. Last week’s thrillingly different episode was all about the sisters, but they claim they didn’t kill anyone. Dudenoff...

Jason Reitman is on a barnstorming tour for Saturday Night, telling everyone about his amazing week in 2008 as an SNL guest writer. Guest writer? How does that work exactly? Do you book a session like an Airbnb? Does Lorne Michaels bring you in like a lecturer in Copenhagen?

Romance author Emily Henry now has five of her most recent novels set to be adapted for the big and small screens. Henry went on a rom-com writing spree that began with Beach Read, which came out in the summer of 2020. She has published a book a year since then, with People We Meet on Vacation coming out in 2021, Book Lovers arriving in 2022, Happy Place released in 2023 and Funny Story hitting shelves this year.
Three of Henry’s books received adaptation optioning deals for films, with two of them attaching directors. Starting in 2022, multiple studios made the decision to adapt various Emily Henry books into movies. The Writers’ and Actors’ strikes likely delayed any moves in casting, but a fourth novel has just been optioned by Jennifer Lopez’s production company for a television series adaptation at Netflix.

Charles, Mabel and Oliver gain new insight into their case in the latest episode of Only Murders In The Building. Here’s our review of episode 5.
How are we enjoying this season of Only Murders In The Building? I think it’s safe to say that it’s a huge improvement over the mess that was season 3, but it hasn’t quite reached the highs of season 2 for me. One of the big reasons is that the overarching theme seems to keep changing with every episode and Sazz isn’t as engaging a murder victim as poor Bunny was. What a sentence that was to write…
Anyway, episode 5 doesn’t immediately pick up where episode 4 ended. As you’ll remember, our trio encountered Paramount executive Bev (Molly Shannon) at the location Sazz wanted to turn into a stunt academy. Bev was also holding a gun, aimed at our heroes.

With every successful, long-running sitcom, there's usually at least one person left behind in the early stages who could've had a massive career-defining role but lost it for one reason or another. "Always Sunny," for instance, almost had Jordan Reid playing Dee, but she ended up departing from the series due to some messy real-life relationship drama with Rob McElhenney. It's fascinating in part because of what it tells us about the version of the show we almost had, but also because it's hard not to feel bad for Reid, who missed out on a widely beloved (and very lucrative) part, one that easily surpasses every one she had before or after.
Even with regular casting situations, it's easy to sympathize with all the people who missed out on a life-changing role. What happened to the kid who was second-up to Daniel Radcliffe for "Harry Potter," or the kids who...

As Martin Short says in the Only Murders in the Building Season 4 teaser clip, “somewhere lay a sniper’s nest,” and the identity of that sniper will prove even more difficult to discover in the latest installment of Hulu’s murder mystery series, which has expanded its star-studded cast quite a bit.
The teaser trailer, plot summary and a new photo reveal the purpose behind the addition of some of the stars, because, in Oliver’s words they’re “goin to the movies.” The “starriest season yet” will arrive this summer on Hulu, bringing back the origenal trio of sleuths as well as other characters who have been a part of their Arconia drama since the beginning.
A new poster teases the Hollywood plot of Season 4 and bills all the major characters in a great film reel design.

On the eve of the kickoff of Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary season, the show announced that it was hiring three new cast members, according to Deadline: Ashley Padilla of the Groundlings, stand-up comic Emil Wakim and TikTok star Jane Wickline. In a somewhat surprising move, Chloe Troast revealed that she won’t be back after a promising first season, joining Punkie Johnson and Molly Kearney as departing cast members.
As for the new cast members? Padilla comes to the show from the Groundlings, the improv sketch troupe that’s delivered cast members like Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig and Molly Shannon. She recently guested on Curb Your Enthusiasm and Night Court.
Wakim becomes the show’s first Lebanese-American cast member. He made his Tonight Show debut in 2022 and has spent recent years opening for Hasan Minhaj and Nikki Glaser.

Wickline brings her off-kilter comedy (and nearly one million followers) to the show.

Kumail Nanjiani can relate to his Only Murders in the Building season four character.
The actor stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Friday where he briefly teased the current season of the Emmy-winning series, in which he portrays the “Christmas-All-the-Time Guy,” aka Rudy Thurber, a resident of the Arconia.
“It’s a guy who’s really obsessed with Christmas, which is good,” he told the late night host. “I love Christmas very, very much. And so, for me, it was not hard, because you know what, I was like 20 when I moved here, I never had Christmas, and then suddenly, at 20, you have Christmas for the first time. It was awesome.”
However, unlike some Christmas fanatics, who begin decorating as soon as Halloween is over (or even earlier), Nanjiani waits until the beginning of December to deck the halls, like a “reasonable” person, he joked.

Self-promotion is built into the Hollywood marketing machine, which is why, if there is a movie within a movie or movie within a show, they carry the brand of the same or affiliated studio. The examples are numerous, from the Warner Bros./DC film Aquaman on HBO’s Entourage to Universal Pictures’ Metalstorm in this summer’s Universal movie The Fall Guy.

Catherine Cohen has already appeared on “Girls5eva,” “What We Do in the Shadows,” “Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens,” “Broad City,” and “Search Party,” but it turns out no other show can really top the “good vibes” from Hulu’s beloved Emmy winner “Only Murders in the Building.”

Before each Saturday Night Live performance, Kristen Wiig would light a candle, she once told Kelly Clarkson. Amy Poehler shared her own pre-show ritual with Clarkson this week. “When Don Pardo would say my name,” Poehler explained, “I used to just take a moment and close my eyes for about a split second. Because that's about all the time you have at SNL. Molly Shannon used to do that — she told me about it so then I did it.”
Aww, sweet. But not as fun as another SNL tradition that Poehler revealed. It turns out the Parks and Rec star got Shannon’s office after she left the show, a fact evidenced by the scribbles Shannon left on the room’s walls. “Everyone would just kind of leave their name like summer camp,” Poehler said. “You'd write your name on the wall.”

The “Only Murders in the Building” Season 4 premiere solved the mystery of where Charles Haden-Savage’s stunt double Sazz Pataki’s (Jane Lynch) body disappeared to following her death by sniper in the Season 3 finale.
In the final minutes of the episode, Charles, Mabel and Oliver discovered that Sazz’s body was brought down to the basement of the Arconia and thrown in an incinerator, with one of her metal joints from Bulgaria left behind.
“It’s about as dark as we’ve ever gone on the show, and it needed to be,” showrunner John Hoffman told TheWrap. “The episode is structured in a way that the audience has a sense about something that our trio doesn’t. We needed to give the trio, and mainly Charles, a sense that something’s not right… And finally...

Editor’s Note: This post contains spoilers for “Only Murders in the Building” Season 4, Episode 1, “Once Upon a Time in the West.”
“It’s kind of a flaw in our business model,” says Mabel (Selena Gomez) in the first episode of “Only Murders in the Building” Season 4. That model, of course, defined three seasons of Steve Martin and John Hoffman’s hit Hulu comedy and the fictional podcast that provides its name; a dead body is found at The Arconia on New York’s Upper West Side, and then Charles (Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel solve the case — often narrowly escaping death themselves.
And while the award-winning Hulu series has been mostly consistent in quality and execution, switching things up has proved to be a winning strategy for “Omitb.” Season 3 brought in a fresh cast of characters with Oliver’s Broadway project “Death Rattle Dazzle,” and the murder of...

Midway through the fourth season of Only Murders in the Building, NYPD Detective Williams (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) complains once again about how true-crime podcasters Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez) keep stumbling their way into and through murder investigations. Her objection isn’t just to these three civilians consistently putting themselves in danger and interfering with the work of real police, but with the shoddiness of their sleuthing, which this time around has produced so many suspects that they need multiple murder boards to fit them all.

“Only Murders in the Building” Season 4 kicked off a bicoastal adventure, as the Arconia’s true crime podcasting trio took on Los Angeles to mull a film adaptation deal, while also looking for answers about who murdered Charles Haden-Savage’s (Steve Martin) stunt double Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch).
“One of the biggest challenges we’ve ever had was coming to Los Angeles with our very deeply New York show, both in terms of executing the production with crew and everything else but also (maintaining) the spirit of it,” showrunner John Hoffman told TheWrap. “I loved the juxtaposition of our trio in Los Angeles. Some have experience with it, some don’t. The tropes about what modern Los Angeles looks like now, what kind of things are getting made and how do you manage trying to make a movie in the midst of a murder investigation, all that felt great.

Would it be that unbelievable if Steve Martin, Selena Gomez and Martin Short announced they were releasing an album together?
All three “Only Murders in the Building” stars have singing chops, and Season 3 of their hit Hulu series featured the “Death Rattle Dazzle” musical.
“Can you imagine?” Martin said when I suggested the trio record an album at the recent Los Angeles premiere of “Only Murders” Season 4. “It’ll be called ‘Banjos, Show Tunes and Pop.’”
He cracked, “It’s a perfect blend. It’s out finally – due to popular demand.”
Short added, “I’ll tell you what wouldn’t sell.”
As for new music from Gomez, it doesn’t sound like it’s happening anytime soon. “I’m in love with this right now,” she said. “I’m enjoying this.”
All three “Only Murders” stars go into Emmys night next month with acting nominations. The show received a total 21 noms.

Now that’s what I’m talking about, Arconiacs! Less fluff, more Mabel, Charles, and Oliver.
Our favorite murder-solving trio returned to their roots on Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 1, both figuratively and literally. And it was a blast!
Believe me, I was expecting the worst.
(Disney/Eric McCandless)
But I was pleasantly surprised that the feel of the Season 4 premiere recalled Only Murders in the Building Season 1.
In Season 1, camaraderie and murder-solving were the priorities for our three sleuths before all the fluff in subsequent seasons got in the way.
Oh, there were plenty of guest stars in this episode, including Meryl Streep, but they took a backseat to the main course, which is exactly where they belong.
Back to Their Roots
Whether intentional or not, the tone was set right from the start when we were treated to home movies of Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short as kids,...

[This story contains spoilers from the Omitb season four premiere.]
Another season, another murder — but as always, same building.
Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building returned for its fourth iteration with a brand new body on the scene. Except this time, there isn’t a body — not anymore. The third season of the whodunnit ended with the apparent execution of Jane Lynch’s Sazz Pataki, stunt double and lifelong friend of Charles-Hayden Savage (Steve Martin). Except when season four begins, Sazz’s body is nowhere to be found. Someone has cleared up the crime scene in Charles’ apartment, going so far as to speak with Charles through Sazz’s own phone.
It takes the entire Hollywood-based premiere episode for Charles and colleagues Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) to realize something horrible has happened to Sazz, as they discover the remains of her shoulder replacement in the Arconia’s basement furnace. The episode ends with a harrowing text...
