Frida Torresblanco is the CEO of Braven Films, an independent film, documentary, and television series production company based in New York and Madrid. As a member of the Academy and with a 20-year career as a member of the Producers Guild of America, she is passionate about telling stories through documentary filmmaking.
Frida is a three-time Oscar winner and producer of the acclaimed film Pan's Labyrinth directed by Guillermo del Toro, which won three Academy Awards, three BAFTAs, a Palme d'Or nomination, and a Golden Globe. She co-founded Esperanto, a production company with partners Alfonso Cuarón and Alejandro G. Iñárritu, and served as its CEO for over nine years. She produced The Assassination of Richard Nixon (starring Sean Penn) and Cronicas (directed by Sebastián Cordero and starring John Leguizamo). Together with Alejandro G. Iñárritu, they produced Rudo y Cursi (directed by Carlos Cuarón) in 2008. The Hollywood Reporter named her the 34th Most Powerful Latina in Hollywood and the 13th on the Latin Women Power 25 list.
Under her own production company, Braven Films, she produced Disobedience (directed by Sebastian Lelio with Rachel Weisz (The Favorite) Rachel McAdams (Spotlight) and Alessandro Nivola, (American Hustle) in collaboration with Film4 and FilmNation. Among her credits is also the production of Magic Magic (directed by Sebastian Silva, starring Michael Cera, Juno Temple, Emily Browning y Catalina Sandino Moreno).
Recently, Braven Films signed an exclusive deal with Viacom International Studios (VIS) for the development and production of international content in a beneficial preference agreement. Under this contract, Braven is developing several television series with Viacom, including Chosen Damages (USA, Mexico), Artemisia (Italy), Sinaloa's First Lady and Balenciaga.
Regarding feature films, Braven as of summer 2023 is working on the development of Satan Is Real, starring Ethan Hawke (Training Day) and Alessandro Nivola, and directed by Phil Morrison, as well as Stolen Girl, directed by James Kent (Testament of Youth and The Aftermath) and starring Kate Beckinsale and Scott Eastwood.
Her previous work has been screened at major festivals worldwide, including the Venice Film Festival ("Y Tu Mamá También"), the Sundance Film Festival (Magic Magic and Rudo y Cursi), the Cannes Film Festival (Cronicas, Pan's Labyrinth and The Assassination of Richard Nixon), and the Tribeca Festival (Rudo y Cursi and Disobedience).
Her latest project, "The Decision," is a documentary that she is producing about the life of the former President of Argentina Mauricio Macri with the director Anthony Wonke, a winner of an Emmy and triple BAFTA. Anthony has also been nominated for an Oscar and won an Emmy as an executive producer. His films have received numerous other awards, including the Prix Italia, Peabody, Grierson, and RTS awards. Some of his recent feature documentaries include Dettori with Sky, The Director and the Jedi with Lucasfilm and Disney, Ronaldo with Universal Pictures, and Unmasking Jihadi John: Anatomy of a Terrorist with HBO, which was recently nominated for Emmy, BAFTA, and Grierson awards.
