Brett Goldstein and Damon Wayans Jr. officially make their debuts in the Season 2 trailer of Apple TV+’s hit therapist dramedy “Shrinking.” The new video shows the cast willing and ready to confront their biggest fears.
“If you don’t truly deal with your past, it’s going to come back for you,” Harrison Ford, who plays Dr. Paul Rhoades in the series, says in a voiceover for a scene of Jimmy (Jason Segel) looking into police lights.
The next shot shows Jimmy in awe of several police cars and ambulance trucks, a sign that the next season will likely center on more details surrounding Tia’s (Lilan Bowden) tragic and fatal car accident.
The biggest surprise comes toward the end of the trailer. Fans get a sneak peek of “Shrinking” co-creator Goldstein and cast newbie Damon Wayans Jr. joining the team. Goldstein appears to be working at a local cafe or shop,...

Shrinking stars Jason Segel as Jimmy Laird, a therapist whose wife recently died. To cope with his loss, Jimmy forgoes his training and ethics and takes an unconventional approach to therapy. The Apple TV+ series delivers a lot of emotion in each episode’s 20-30 minute run time. Part of that emotion is evoked through Shrinking‘s set design.

On Feb. 7, 2013, after delays and significant drama behind the scenes, Community debuted “History 101,” the first episode of the long-awaited fourth season, and the first under new showrunners David Guarascio and Moses Port. Fan reaction to the outing was mixed, to put it mildly, while critics were downright savage. Soon enough, cast and crew began to express their misgivings, too. The entire season was later written off in-universe as the result of a gas leak, never to be spoken of again.
Was that a fair assessment, though? Countless other “bad” installments of pop culture have been revisited over the years, only for perceived faults to be found not quite so damning as audiences initially thought. With an entire decade of hindsight and objectivity to reflect upon, was the fourth season of Community really that bad?
Kind of, yeah!

Brett Goldstein and Neil Goldman are two of the key voices behind the new Apple TV+ series, "Shrinking." Goldstein is the co-creator of the show with his "Ted Lasso" pal, Bill Lawrence, and Goldman executive produces with his past "Scrubs" collaborator. Together, Goldstein and Goldman wanted to produce a comedy about therapy. The story follows a therapist (played by Jason Segel) in a spiral and suffering from grief.
Goldstein, who hosts the excellent "Films to Be Buried With" podcast, wants laughs without ever poking fun at therapy. As Goldstein and Goldman told us, they have nothing but respect for the process and profession. It was important for that to ring loud, clear, and true in "Shrinking." Recently, the two writers told us how they worked with consultants to ensure authenticity, as well as why the classic comedy "Airplane!" holds up after all these years.
Note: This interview has been lightly edited for clarity and brevity.

Brett Goldstein and Bill Lawrence didn’t have to do much to convince Harrison Ford to co-star in their new Apple TV+ comedy series, “Shrinking.”
In the show, Jason Segel stars as a therapist who is facing his own personal issues, including the unexpected death of his wife. Ford plays his boss and mentor while Jessica Williams plays another therapist at the practice.
At Thursday night’s premiere in Los Angeles, Goldstein remembered being quite gobsmacked meeting the “Indiana Jones” and “Star Wars” legend in London to talk about the project. “I walked in and he said, ‘Best script I’ve ever read,’” Goldstein told me. “I saw a bunch of scripts on his table and I thought, ‘He thinks I’m someone else. There are loads of scripts here. This is embarrassing.'”
“He went, ‘Best dialogue I’ve ever read,’” he continued. “I said, ‘You want to do it then?...

Shrinking is an excellent series in the tradition of Ted Lasso that blends emotion and personal growth with humor for a story that is both inspirational and heartfelt. The series follows Jimmy Laird (Jason Segel), a psychiatrist mired in grief after the death of his wife. After succumbing to drugs and depression, Jimmy decides to throw caution to the wind and tell his patients the blunt truth, even if it isn’t the best medical advice. When it works, sort of, Jimmy embarks on a new direction in his treatment of his patients and his family that does not always work out as one would expect. Shrinking is a great series and will be an instant hit for all involved.

Harrison Ford has adventured around the world as Indiana Jones, but the film star has only explored uncharted territory — episodic television — last year, with the premiere of “Yellowstone” prequel “1923” on Paramount+ in December. But Ford already has a new TV series, “Shrinking,” coming out a month later, and a little over a week before the premiere of the series, the full trailer has been released by Apple TV+ out of its Television Critics Association winter press tour conference.
“Shrinking” stars Jason Segel as Jimmy, a therapist working at a cognitive behavioral center reeling from the death of his beloved wife and struggling to be there for his patients. When he snaps at a patient (played by “SNL” cast member Heidi Gardner) that she needs to leave her emotionally abusive husband, to positive results, Jimmy decides that the best way he can help others is by telling them exactly what he thinks.

"So how does that make you feel?" This question has been uttered by just about every incarnation of a therapist on screen, and the new series "Shrinking" is no different. Jason Segel stars as Jimmy Laird, a grieving therapist who realizes he's running on auto-pilot with his patients and trying to numb himself after the loss of his wife instead of actually dealing with his problems. Realizing he needs to make a massive change, Jimmy decides to throw the ethical rulebook out the window and tell his clients exactly what he thinks, much to the chagrin of fellow psychiatrist, Dr. Paul Rhodes (Harrison Ford). Rather than wait to hear how a patient "feels" about a situation, he's dishing out advice that will shake up their lives ... and his own.

It took a long time for Harrison Ford to make his way to a major TV role, and in a preview for the upcoming Apple TV+ series “Shrinking,” he doesn’t look too happy about it. In the minute-long clip, featuring the upcoming comedy’s cast, a trampoline, and no dialogue, Ford shoots a disappointed scowl at his co-star Jason Segel before walking off.
It’s a perfectly nonplussed reaction from the Star Wars and Indiana Jones legend, setting up an intriguing new series from the creators of “Ted Lasso.” In addition to the trampoline clip and a few first look images (all below), the streamer also unveiled a release date of January 27. The preview shows Segel and the series’ supporting cast bouncing on a trampoline in between the tag line: “Sometimes you have to break down to have a breakthrough.”
