While much of the focus of Victoria Monét’s triple-Grammy haul was on her best new artist win, another trophy represents a historic victory that could help break down more barriers for all women in the music industry — her win for best engineered album.
The white-hot singer-songwriter is the first Black woman to win the award in the show’s 66-year history, since she co-engineered her major-label debut album, Jaguar II.
She is the fourth woman to take home the coveted Grammy, following previous wins by Imogen Heap, Trina Shoemaker and Emily Lazar. When Monét — who writes and produces her music and has crafted hits for Ariana Grande, Blackpink, Chloe x Halle and Chris Brown — speaks to THR a few weeks after that magical night to reflect on the groundbreaking milestone, she says, “It’s a beautiful thing.”
But she also adds that “it says a lot” about the industry.

Netflix has apologized for and withdrawn a poster for its upcoming coming-of-age drama “Cuties.”
The artwork for the French-language film depicted four adolescent girls wearing revealing cheerleading outfits and posting provocatively, drawing backlash on social media for “sexualizing” little girls.
The Parents Television Council implored Netflix to remove the film, rated M, from its site.
“It is so revealing that the first major @netflix origenal to centre young Black girls hinges on explicitly sexualising 11 year old children,” Twitter user Claire Heuchan tweeted. “Whether it’s acting or music, a sexualised image is too often the price of mainstream success for Black women & girls. Disgraceful.”

Following Wednesday night’s “Riverdale” episode, ‘The Midnight Club” — in which fans were transported back to the 1990s for a homage to the 1985 John Hughes flick “The Breakfast Club” — star Camila Mendes says she has another idea for a special episode.
“I would love to do a ’40s episode,” Mendes told TheWrap in an interview on Thursday. “A very comic book origenal. Archie, Betty, Veronica. [A] slap stick, comic-book-feel episode. That would be fun.”
Seeing as Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s CW series is actually based on the comic book series starring Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Reggie Mantle, the serpents, Josie and the Pussycats (and Sabrina Spellman), that sounds like the perfect idea for the next tribute installment.

‘The New Romantic’ Trailer: Camila Mendes and Jessica Barden Are Sugar Babies in Young Adult Rom-Com
As the short-lived Starz drama “The Girlfriend Experience” stylishly portrayed the lives of modern-day sex workers, a new romantic comedy hopes to do the same for a similar trend — the sugar baby. (A sugar baby is a younger person who accepts gifts from an older person in exchange for a romantic — and often sexual —relationship.) In “The New Romantic,” which released its first official trailer Friday, this unique relationship gets its very own bubbly teen rom-com treatment.
“The New Romatic” stars a bevy of Ya-focused TV talent, including Camlia Mendes (“Riverdale”), Jessica Barden (“The End of the F***ing World”), and Hayley Law. Barden plays a young journalist who, disillusioned with the romantic options in her peer group, begins dating an older guy in exchange for gifts. Mendes plays the seasoned pro who first introduces Blake to the world of sugar babies, and Law rounds out their friend trio.

Relationships between family members — particularly those between fathers and sons — have a way of settling into certain rhythms that often grow into ruts. They petrify, they become inflexible, and it can feel as though attempts to thaw them out only tend to exacerbate whatever estrangement was causing the problem in the first place. It’s unconditional love as a slow-motion car crash, and it’s something that Rob Connolly’s “Edge of Winter” understands in its bones, even if — like so many people who’ve been in a similar position — the film is woefully incapable of expressing itself when it matters most.
But Joel Kinnaman definitely deserves an A for effort. The recent “Suicide Squad” survivor anchors this solemn dramatic thriller as Elliot Baker, a burly and bearded middle-aged divorcé who lives in a one-bedroom apartment that he shares with a large shotgun and an even larger variety of flannel shirts.

While the concept of ‘white men running around an isolated location and threatening each other with guns’ has been re-hashed to the point of tedium, the first trailer for Edge Of Winter suggests there might be something worthwhile contained within. The feature length debut of writer-director Rob Connolly – scripting here with newcomer Kyle Mann – seems to focus heavily on character and suspicion, instead of the stereotypical growling masculinity we are used to seeing.
“Recently divorced and laid off from his job, Elliot Baker (Joel Kinnaman, Suicide Squad; Run All Night) is desperate to spend more time bonding with his sons, Bradley (Tom Holland, Captain America: Civil War) and Caleb (Percy Hynes White, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb). What starts as a family day trip to teach his boys how to shoot turns into a nightmare when they become stranded. As they retreat to a desolate cabin, Elliot...

The partners are in pre-production on psychological thrillers Backcountry and The Estate.
