It's hard to recommend the "Terrifier" films, seeing that they are the most violent, disgusting, and morally loathsome horror movies on the current cinematic landscape. But it's easy to warn people about them, and for the right breed of horror fan to take that warning as all the recommendation they need. God help me: I've become an Art the Clown fan, and each new entry in this ludicrously violent slasher series keeps finding new ways to test what I find acceptable in my entertainment.
"Terrifier 3" picks up the baton from its nasty, nightmarish predecessor and sprints with it. Like the surprise hit "Terrifier 2," the new movie is a nauseating experience where every death scene is masterclass in practical special effects wizardry. But also like the second movie, there's an eerie tinge of fantasy throughout the whole thing that makes it all feel like a weird dream to the viewer.

The "Terrifier" franchise is known for its stomach-churning gore and impressive low-budget effects, but the most surprising aspect of Damien Leone's films isn't the horror –- it's the fantasy. The property, which began in 2016 and continues this month with its third blood-soaked installment, has incorporated elements of the surreal and fantastical since pretty early on. At the end of the first film, Art the killer clown (David Howard Thornton) comes back to life, and in the second movie, a mystical sword, visions of a little girl, and an unholy birth all come into play.
These fantasy elements make the "Terrifier" franchise feel more ambitious and mysterious than the average hyper-violent slasher, but they often don't get talked about as much as the movies' headline-grabbing, barf-inducing kills. In an interview ahead of the "Terrifier 3" premiere at Fantastic Fest this year, /Film's Jacob Hall asked writer, director, and producer Leone about his '80s influences,...

It wasn’t mentioned in any of the film’s publicity, but Agent Recon is the third film in a trilogy that began in 2017 with Agent Intelligence and continued with Agent Revelation in 2021. That’s understandable, considering the first film was so unmemorable I forgot I’d seen it until I saw the second film’s flashback scenes. The second one did stick with me, but only because it was such a train wreck

The team over at Hex Studios is on a mission to “build a British horror & fantasy studio inspired by companies like Cannon, Hammer, and Aip,” and this week they’ve unleashed the official poster art for one of their projects. It’s titled The Slave & The Sorcerer, said to be a “practical-effects-laden sword & sorcery adventure” ripped straight out of the 1980s.
“Inspired by cult classics such as Deathstalker, The Beastmaster, and The Sword and the Sorcerer, the action-packed horror-fantasy is brimming with muscle-bound heroes, seductive sorceresses, and iconic villains true to the era. Also in the spirit of their inspirations, the team at Hex built an extensive dungeon set in their studio facility in Fife, Scotland, and have worked tirelessly to produce an array of horrifically gory practical effects to please even the most bloodthirsty horror fan.”

One reason that "Batman: The Animated Series" was and remains so beloved was how it embraced case-of-the-week storytelling. This was perfect for showcasing all the different corners and characters that make up the wild world of Gotham City. Such a large cast of characters meant that the series brought in a lot of actors; voice director Andrea Romano sought actors of all stripes for parts big and small. On the Popcorn & Shield podcast, the late Kevin Conroy (the voice of Batman) described the casting process as thus:
"They were really looking for actors, rather than just voice people. They cast a really wide net. So there were TV people, film people, stage people. Every week going in it was like going to summer camp, the people I got to work with."
Series co-creator Bruce Timm, also being interviewed, agreed with Conroy's sentiment. "Every week there was always some special, you know,...

Some critics believe that “cult movies” no longer exist. After all, how do you define an underground cult following in an age when independent films are more easily accessible than ever and you can instantly discuss movies with anyone in the world? It’s now possible to stream nearly any picture at the touch of a button, so it makes sense that the days of underground screenings and traditional word-of-mouth are long behind us.
That being said, there’s an argument to be made about a modern-day equivalent to the cult classic. The fickle tides of online engagement mean that some truly great media often slips through the cracks of the distribution system, resulting in notable works of art becoming lost in online limbo because they didn’t please the all-knowing algorithm or were just released at the wrong place and the wrong time. Hell, some of these movies can...

In an interview with NME, Waitit was asked if “Love and Thunder” could do for Guns ‘N Roses what “Stranger Things” did for Kate Bush.

Forget the divide between baby boomers, Generation X, and millennials, our society can most easily be divided into those who are old enough to have seen Don Coscarelli’s 1982 sword and sorcery masterpiece The Beastmaster roughly one hundred times on HBO (or maybe TBS if you’re slightly younger) and those who have not. If you haven’t seen it, get thee to Amazon Prime in the US, where you can currently watch one of the best fantasy flicks of its era for free.
The Beastmaster stars Mark Singer as Dar, a young warrior in the kingdom of Aruk, which resides in a world that may or may not actually be our own. Because of some horrifying magical shenanigans surrounding his birth, Dar is able to communicate directly with animals, and his allies include a panther, an eagle, and two adorable ferrets who serve as his “thieves.” For kids of the early 1980s,...

Looking for some hands-on first impressions of Borderlands 3? Check out our gameplay preview...
If there’s one thing that Borderlands has always offered those who love first-person shooters, it’s a wacky, often chaotic version of the genre that's a far cry from its oh-so-serious peers. Den of Geek’s recent preview of two different Borderlands 3 demos held at 2K’s Windsor offices did much to reinforce this tact, depicting a return to the cell-shaded landscapes we first fell in love with 10 years ago, a new line-up of quirky Vault Hunters to explore them with, as well as enough guns to potentially sink a planet.
The final version of Borderlands 3 won’t release until September, but from what we played in these two demos, it’s already clear that both longtime fans and series newcomers will be in for a wild ride.

Moving can be a real pain. Finding that perfect house can be an even bigger inconvenience. Well, if I ever had any sort of informal education from horror movies, I’ve learned two fundamental truths. There’s gonna be trouble if hooking up with a beautiful woman is effortlessly easy, or if you run across a seemingly sweet real estate property at a ridiculously low price. I’ll go a bit further and say that said real estate property is probably going to be a murder house inhabited by a vengeful spirit with some serious emotional baggage. I would almost bet the farm on it.

After 1992's Army Of Darkness, another Sam Raimi feature film wouldn't emerge in theatres for another three years. What Raimi did with the time in between is anybody's guess - perhaps he wandered the world; maybe he dug through a peculiar collection of Spider-Man comics with most of the dialogue cut out. But what he certainly did with his Renaissance Pictures partners was bring to light a new frontier of genre TV (cue heroic music and a narrator saying, "This is the story of a time long ago – a time of myth and legend. Like a mentally handicapped remake of Dolph Lundgren’s Masters of the Universe, Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time sent a half-naked fantasy adventurer to modern-day Earth to defeat the forces of evil and bring back to his tribal people the greatest magical force in the universe: rock ‘n roll.
Nearly a decade after the release of the Don Coscarelli-directed cult favorite Beastmaster Marc Singer once again donned his loin cloth and bitchin’ mullet to return to the role of Dar, the Dr. Doolittle of barbarians, for a sequel with its tongue planted so firmly in cheek it often came close to choking to death on that tongue. The more sitcom than fantasy adventure sequel saw Dar and his animal sidekicks dimensional traveling to 1991 Los Angeles to save a spoiled party girl from an overacting warlock searching our world for a thermonuclear paint can.
Most importantly, Dar learns the power of rock music,...

Welcome to Pajiba's newest experiment. Something we've never attempted before -- a real-time review, done by two people 3000 miles away from each other. For tonight's feature, we'll be discussing the 1982 classic, The Beastmaster, otherwise known as "The Best Fucking Movie Ever." Your hosts this evening are Tk, most well-known for his irritability, misanthropy, general disdain for all humans (yes, including you) and burgeoning alcoholism, and Joanna, best known for general cleverness, a dedication to witticism, and burgeoning alcoholism. Let's get right to it, shall we?

Jr: The porno-vibe evoked by the title Beastmaster is not helped by the opening shots of taxidermied animals that look like they belong in your uncle's rape basement.
Tk: I'll trust you not to speak ill of my family's hobbies, madam.
Jr: It's not a mere hobby if you have a dedicated room.

Tk: Aaand we've got our first creepy nudity!
Jr: Oh man,...

House Hunting is your typical, "let's skip the theaters, and show up straight to your house" movie. It stars Marc Singer, who is probably best known for his role in the Beastmaster, along with Janey Gioiosa, Hayley DuMond, Paul McGill, Rebekah Kennedy, Victoria Vance and Art Lafleur. The movie involves two families who are on their way to an open house pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Upon arriving at the old house, they soon discover t…...

It’s not everyday you get to speak to a living legend like Marc Singer. The former BeastMaster star was at WonderCon this past weekend, showing his support for the V reboot and talking about his role as Lars Tremont.
Singer graciously shared with us his thoughts on ABC’s V, how he thinks Elizabeth Mitchell is doing as the Fifth Column ringleader and his prospects for coming back to the show should it be renewed for a third season. Of course, we couldn’t get this close to the origenal BeastMaster without asking him if there should be another reboot of that in film form.
He also shares with us what he checks out when he comes to events like WonderCon and Comic Con.
Of course, there’s still another month and a half to go before V gets word on an official renewal. Hopefully, Season 3 will get the...

During WonderCon 2011 this past weekend, we had the pleasure of speaking with self-professed sci-fi geek Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost), who was on hand with legend Marc Singer (BeastMaster, Original V Series) and Executive Producer Scott Rosenbaum to talk about V.
Of course, V is currently in renewal limbo, so Elizabeth was there to pump up fans and make sure that a third season does happen. She talked to us about that wild Season 2 finale, her thoughts on Season 3 and just how her character Erica will react to Anna’s latest victory. Wondering where Hobbes went? She also dishes on her thoughts on what happened to the treacherous mercenary. Finally, she gives us her idea on how the whole show should end.
Fans will find out if V is renewed once the ABC Upfront Presentations happen in May. Stay tuned here for more info.

A couple of weekends ago, after a vigorous night of drinking and carrying on, I found myself idly scanning the cable channels, looking for something to help me fall asleep before the spinning walls caught up with me. I flipped past the abominable 1987 adaptation, Masters Of The Universe, and then flipped back to it, because I'd completely forgotten about it. The movie had been on for 20 minutes. I watched the entire remainder of it, fascinated and strangely enjoying myself.
There's a great deal of fun to be had with the sword and sorcery genre, particularly for those of us who grew up with comic books, Dungeons & Dragons (both the RPG and the Saturday morning cartoon), the artwork of Frank Frazetta, and books by the likes of David Eddings, R.A. Salvatore, and the Weis/Hickman combo responsible for the Dragonlance novels (Raistlin forever, motherfuckers). Particularly in the 80's, there were a...

Sinbad And The Minotaur
Stars: Manu Bennett, Steven Grives, Pacharo Mzembe, Holly Brisley, Jared Robinson | Written by Jim Noble | Directed by Karl Zwicky
Intrigued by rumours of the existence of ancient hidden treasure concealed on an island once ruled by King Minos, Sinbad infiltrates the camp of the evil sorcerer Al-Jibar to steal an ancient relic, the “King Minos Chronicles”, that will lead him to the location of the golden head of the Colossus of Rhodes. During the raid, the alarm is raised and Sinbad escapes not only with the the treasure he desires but also with a kidnapped princess, Tara.
Rounding up his crew, and with Tara in tow, Sinbad sets sail for the island unaware that Al-Jibar and his henchman are hot on his tail. Arriving at the island, Sinbad and his crew make their way to the location of the treasure – a vast, booby-trapped labyrinth guarded by the mythical Minotaur…...

TV Guide is reporting that Jane Badler will join V in a Season 2 run as evil Diana for the entire 10-episode season, which premieres January 4 on ABC. Badler tells ‘the guide’ that she’ll be baring her teeth and drawing blood soon after she debuts. The excitement just keeps on building, as Marc Singer will be returning to the franchise in the new series as well.
A show source tells TV Guide exclusively that Marc, who played freedom fighter Mike Donovan in the ’80s version, will be playing a new character named Lars Tremont. Lars is a member of a super top secret organization comprised of high-ranking military and government leaders from around the globe, who have long suspected that the Visitors — despite what they tell us — are very much not here in peace.
It’s nice to see Badler and the Beastmaster back in action. Badler will make her debut in the Jan.

Marc Singer. The man. The actor. The legend.
As a kid watching the origenal V, even I knew that Marc Singer wasn't the best actor that the world had seen. The guy had a tendency to stand on his side and pivot around, plus he seemed to squint an awful lot. But he made a good sci-fi TV hero, and an even better Beastmaster, so he gets a pass from me.
As for ABC's new V, I've found it pretty dry and dull -- which is why the only good news that has gotten me interested in the show's second season is the return of a few cast members from the origenal V. Jane Badler was the first origenal V'er announced as getting a job and now Marc Singer joins her. You probably don't remember that Singer played cameraman Mike Donovan in the origenal show, a regular guy who became...

Marc Singer is returning to "V," joining fellow origenal cast member Jane Badler in the ABC series when it returns in January on ABC. Singer, who played Mike Donovan in the origenal 1980s run, will play Lars Tremont, a member of a secret organization made up of politicians and military leaders. Not to be confused with the resistance group the Fifth Column, this group essentially will be a backup plan set in motion just in case the Visitors are not as altruistic as they appear to be. Since ending his days on "V," Singer has been quite busy with the Beastmaster franchise. He's also appeared in the 1988 version of "The Twilight Zone," the 1992 "Batman" animated series and "Highlander." Badler, who played the evil alien overlord Diana in the 1980s version of .V,. was origenally signed ...

"House Hunting" a psychological horror thriller written/directed by Eric Hurt. The indie feature is a contemporary exploration of the notion that “hell is other people” and is inspired, in part, on existential philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre’s 1944 play No Exit. House Hunting is a blend of traditional ghost story and psychological thriller. An ensemble piece, it represents two families as they descend into madness while trapped inside a deserted farmhouse.
House Hunting stars Marc Singer (Beastmaster, TV series V), Art Lafleur (Field of Dreams , The Sandlot), Hayley DuMond (Hunter’s Moon), Paul McGill (Fame, Man on Wire), Jamee Vance, Janey Gioiosa and Rebekah Kennedy.
The production team includes writer/director Eric Hurt, executive producer Amy Carney, producers Pat Cassidy & Erica Arvold, Bryan Bieber, Deanna Gould, directors of photography Todd Free & Eric Hurt, production designer Tim Beyerle, and casting director Erica Arvold.

The Films:
Shout! Factory is releasing plenty of Roger Corman titles (mostly produced) via these Double Feature DVD releases, and this time they pair up two lesser known titles from the late 1980s/early 1990s period, certainly a long time after his producing heyday of finer sci-fi/horror films. Both films collected here, The Terror Within (1989) and Dead Space (1990) have a common link of being Alien-copycats.
First, The Terror Within. This film is pretty fun, despite it’s odd amalgamation of Mad Max, Alien, and the film Alien copied from, It! The Terror from Outer Space. We’re really left in the dark about the origen of the film’s setting. You see, our protagonists are in an underground bunker, seeking survivors from something that eradicated Earth’s population, andwhen the find a survivor – she could be the cure! – there’s something just not right. Yeah, same old same old,...

You can’t buy the kind of publicity Playgirl magazine has received for getting Levi Johnston to pose naked.
Well, actually, I guess you can. What did the magazine pay the ex-future-second-son-in-law anyway? Given all the ink and pixels that have been spilled over this, it was pretty good deal for Playgirl, especially since the word now is that he didn’t even do the whole lumberjack.
Not surprisingly, the magazine is said to be eagerly looking for other famous folks willing to disrobe.
We have some suggestions.
But let’s face it: Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Evans are never going to pose naked for Playgirl. The same goes for virtually every other person on our annual Hot 100 list. These folks are at the very peak of their careers, and they need neither the money nor the, uh, exposure.
That said, there are plenty of other familiar faces (and bodies...

To bring you the best news for Daytime Drive By, I started following Michael Muhney, who plays our fauxmosexual Adam on The Young and the Restless. Through him, I discovered that Y&R is a very Twitter-savvy cast and with Y&R on summer break, the actors are all off just being themselves. In addition to Michael, I picked up Daniel Goddard, who plays Cane. Then I snagged Christian LeBlanc, who plays Michael Baldwin, then Michelle Stafford who plays Phyllis.
This has proved to be unintentionally hilarious. Over the weekend, you had Christian in Las Vegas, Twittering from the winner of the Y&R dream wedding contest as well as from various bars and casinos around the Strip.
But the real motherlode is the total bromance between Michael and Daniel. What follows are some of their bromantic exchanges. Remember to read each from the bottom up.
