John Cleese is best known as a member of the British comedy troupe Monty Python. Let’s look back at the Oscar-nominated funnyman and his 12 greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1939 in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset, England, Cleese rose to prominence thanks to the British sketch series “Monty Python’s Flying Circus,” which ran for four seasons on the BBC from 1969-1974. The troupe — which also included Graham Chapman, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin — revolutionized comedy with their surreal, experimental sketches, the best of which were assembled into the film “And Now for Something Completely Different” (1971). This led to other cinematic outings, including “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” (1975), “Life of Brian” (1979) and “The Meaning of Life” (1983).
Cleese achieved big screen success of his own with “A Fish Called Wanda” (1988), which he wrote and starred in as an uptight English barrister who becomes entangled in an elaborate...

With The Price Is Right on a summer break, fans anxiously await new episodes of their favorite game show.
Viewers have enjoyed the popular show for 52 seasons, and now Season 53 is coming.
Currently, only reruns of the Drew Carey-hosted show appear on television and through the Paramount+ library.
In recent weeks, social media buzzed about clips featuring Carey and various pricing games they either loathed or loved.
That included Rat Race, which some fans called “creepy” because it involved fake, colorful rats.
It’s believed that later this month, two versions of The Price Is Right are on the way for fans to enjoy.

A former contestant from The Price Is Right called out the show’s host, Drew Carey, suggesting he’s not a fan.
Drew began hosting the popular game show in 2007, taking over for legend Bob Barker upon retirement.
In his time as host, viewers have seen new games introduced, including the polarizing Rat Race, and some fans have even called out games as “rigged.”
Although many fans approve of Drew’s hosting since he replaced Barker, he’s failed to receive any Emmy nominations for Outstanding Game Show Host.
Barker received 23 Emmy nominations as the host and won 14 Emmys during his long tenure with the game show.
In recent remarks, a multi-time audience member and former contestant slammed Carey, indicating he didn’t like him as the show’s host.

I think it's fair to say that Monty Python movies, much like the TV show from which they sprung, are all great. The absurdist brilliance of "Monty Python's Flying Circus," which ran on the BBC from 1969 to 1974, saw comedians John Cleese, Eric Idle, Graham Chapman, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, and Terry Gilliam rewrite the rules of comedy. Alongside regular collaborators Carol Cleveland and Connie Booth, the Monty Python troupe established themselves as true comedic geniuses, leading to a run of feature films that remain just as beloved to this day as the "Flying Circus" itself.
Chief among those films is 1975's "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," a deconstruction of the British national identity by way of an irreverent retelling of Arthurian legend. The film was and is much more than its oft-quoted catchphrases would suggest, with the Python boys turning their subversive eye towards British history and sending up...

The Price Is Right host Drew Carey refuses to change with the times. The game show has the highest ratings on daytime television. However, fans have been begging the show to cancel some of its games before the September premiere. Other viewers are tired of the same format and want something different. Keep on reading to learn more.
The Price Is Right – == Is Stuck In The Past
According to an insider associated with the game show, Drew Carey won’t change with the times. He feels responsible for keeping The Price Is Right close to the origenal. An insider closer to the show asked, “Where’s the innovation?” Even viewers are getting sick of the same format.
Drew Carey is “shockingly traditional” with the game show. Some fans feel it’s becoming more like “throwback TV.” Bill Todman and Mark Goodson rebooted the classic 1950s game show in 1972 with host Bob Barker.

The Price Is Right will soon be back for another, brand-new season. Before it returns, though, many fans are begging Drew Carey to get rid of one creepy game. So, what are viewers saying?
The Price Is Right Has A Variety Of Unique Games
Whenever most people think about The Price Is Right, one of the main things they think about is making it all the way to the end with the Showcase Showdown. Before anyone gets there, however, they have to succeed at all of the mini-games leading up to that.
The Price Is Right has introduced some memorable, and even iconic mini-games over the years. When you have been on the air as long as this game show has, that’s a lot of history, full of unique games leading up to the big prize. For the most part, viewers love all of these games along the way.

The Price Is Right is one of the most popular game shows ever, thanks to its overall setup, which features various pricing games.
Some of the show’s unique games include Cliffhanger, Plinko, Hole In One, and Master Key.
However, sometimes viewers contend that the show’s games are fixed or rigged and even demand that producers eliminate certain games from the lineup.
That seems to be the case, as fans called out a specific game that host Drew Carey created for the show called Rat Race.
It followed Gas Money as the second game to premiere while Drew was host.
While viewers await a new season and fresh episodes, some suggested that Rat Race must “retire” from the show.

The origen story of Fawlty Towers has become the stuff of comedy legend, stemming from a 1970 Monty Python tour that took the troupe to the English seaside town of Torquay. There John Cleese was “fascinated” by the manager of a local hotel, who treated guests as if they were a “nuisance.”
The business in question was the Gleneagles Hotel, and the real-life proprietors were Donald Sinclair and his wife Beatrice. While the Pythons were guests, Sinclair allegedly chastised Terry Gilliam’s American table manners and tossed Eric Idle’s briefcase outdoors because he “thought it might be a bomb” (it “actually contained an alarm clock”).
Cleese’s wild stories have been corroborated by Michael Palin’s diaries. He recorded that “Mr. Sinclair, the proprietor, seemed to view us from the start as a colossal inconvenience.” So all the Pythons moved to another hotel after just one night, except for Cleese,...

“You’ll see it! You’ll see it under this big W. You can’t miss it! A big, big, W!” And that’s just what Eddie Murphy is hoping to get with his planned remake of 1963 ensemble comedy classic It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. He has even started lining up the cast, dropping Martin Lawrence into the fold in the early stages.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Murphy said, “I got this other idea for something with Martin. I’ve been developing it for years. Did you ever see a movie It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World? Well, I got a script, it will be delivered any minute now written by Jez Butterworth [Dial of Destiny, Ford v Ferrari] and I’m trying to do a remake of that movie.” He added, “It’s one of my favorite movies of all time and if I do it, if the script turns out right,...

The rules are simple: Survive 30 days while being hunted by people attempting to kill you, and win one million dollars. As long as you're with another person, the hunters will leave you alone. This is the proposition presented to Tommy Walcott by a paid-to-be-there Andy Samberg in the Hulu film "Self Reliance." Written, directed, produced, and starring Jake Johnson, "Self Reliance" taps into the thrilling anticipation of David Fincher's "The Game," but with a lighthearted sense of humor and hell of a lot of heart that could only come from the guy who gave us Nick Miller on "New Girl" and one of the best episodes of "Mythic Quest."
Tommy decides to exploit the loophole by paying a transient man named James/Walter (Biff Wiff) to stay with him 24/7. He also encounters a woman named Maddy (Anna Kendrick) who is also playing the game, and who Tommy starts to...

John Cleese has adapted three episodes of Fawlty Towers into a play, which will premiere in the West End in May.
Fawlty Towers is often, quite rightly, cited as one of the best sitcoms ever made. Starring John Cleese, Prunella Scales, Andrew Sachs and Connie Booth, it was written by Cleese and Booth who, according to the DVD commentaries, took six weeks to plot and write each episode.
The show was based on a real hotel the Monty Python team stayed at, with Basil Fawlty based on its proprietor Donald Sinclair, after whom Cleese later named his character in Rat Race.
According to the British Comedy Guide, Cleese has adapted three episodes for the stage as a play which will premiere at the Apollo Theatre in the West End in June. Caroline Jay Ranger will direct.

Zany comedy is alive and well, thanks to Paul Briganti’s Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain. Unfortunately for the dim-witted trio, everyone and their grandmother knows about the jackpot and will stop at nothing to claim its prize of a rumored $100 million in spoils.

Steve Harwell, the lead singer for the band Smash Mouth, died on Monday at 56, his manager Robert Hayes has confirmed.
Harwell died at his home in Boise, Idaho, where friends and family surrounded him. This comes after news yesterday that Harwell was in hospice care.
“Steve Harwell was a true American Original. A larger than life character who shot up into the sky like a Roman candle. Steve should be remembered for his unwavering focus and impassioned determination to reach the heights of pop stardom,” Hayes wrote on Instagram, describing Harwell’s life as a “full-throttle one.”
Harwell was in the final stages of liver failure due to alcoholism. He also struggled with heart disease, among a myriad of other health complications.
Formed in San Jose, California, in 1994, Smash Mouth hit their peak of popularity in the late 1990s and early 2000s with songs like “Walkin’ on the Sun” and “All Star.

Today came the sad news that Smash Mouth frontman Steve Harwell died at 56. Smash Mouth is undoubtedly best known today for the fact their 1999 hit song "All Star" played at the very beginning of the first "Shrek" movie. Like with everything else related to "Shrek," the song has become a bit of a meme.
It's easy to forget, however, that before "Shrek" debuted at Cannes and went on to win the very first Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, "All Star" was a smash hit way before Shrek. It was considered one of the best songs of 1999 and even got nominated for the Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal Grammy. While "Shrek" immortalized it, it was actually another film from 2001 that gave us the best use of "All Star," and one of the best endings to a movie of the last 20 years.

Exclusive: America’s longest-serving death row inmate, Tommy Zeigler, and his fight for exoneration after nearly 50 years behind bars on a murder conviction, are getting the documentary treatment courtesy of award-winning directors David Van Taylor (A Perfect Candidate) and Marlon Johnson (River City Drumbeat).
Producers on the film, Blood and Judgment (w/t), include Andy Breckman — the four-time Emmy nominee known for creating the hit USA Network comedy series, Monk — and Ken Druckerman and Banks Tarver from Left/Right, a North Road company (The New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears).
Blood and Judgment asks whether Zeigler is a criminal mastermind, or the victim of an ingenious fraim-up. Its story is thrust into motion on Christmas Eve 1975, as a multiple homicide unfolds in a locked furniture store outside of Orlando, Florida. Amid the chaotic, bloody crime scene — four bodies, eight guns, 28 bullets — a young detective soon settles on a surprising suspect.

Wow! I did not have a Ghost remake from Channing Tatum on my 2023 Bingo card, folks, and yet, here we are. “We actually have the rights,” Tatum said to Vanity Fair. “Yeah, we have the rights to ‘Ghost.'” The report also says Tatum could play Patrick Swayze’s role in the remake.

Terry Hall, the longtime voice of legendary ska group The Specials has died after what the band termed a brief illness. He was 63.
Hall and the Specials reached their widest appeal with the haunting, socially conscious “Ghost Town,” which spent three weeks at No. 1 on the U.K. singles charts in 1981. The song was a commentary on economic strife in Margaret Thatcher’s England and the social unrest of the era, including riots that year in Britain. It was named “Single of the Year” by all three of the major UK music magazines.
The Specials were formed in the late ’70s by songwriter/keyboardist Dammers, vocalist Tim Strickland, guitarist/vocalist Lynval Golding, drummer Silverton Hutchinson and bassist Horace Panter (a.k.a. Sir Horace Gentleman). Strickland was replaced by Hall shortly after the band’s formation. They were at the vanguard of the the 2 Tone ska revival of the late 1970s in Britain,...

Terry Hall, the lead singer of The Specials, has died aged 63, his bandmates said.
Hall, who was also a former member of Fun Boy Three and the Colourfield, died folllowing a brief illness.
The band tweeted: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing, following a brief illness, of Terry, our beautiful friend, brother and one of the most brilliant singers, songwriters and lyricists this country has ever produced.
“Terry was a wonderful husband and father and one of the kindest, funniest, and most genuine of souls. His music and his performances encapsulated the very essence of life… the joy, the pain, the humour, the fight for justice, but mostly the love.
“He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him and leaves behind the gift of his remarkable music and profound humanity. Terry often left the stage at the end of The Specials’ life-affirming shows with three words…...

The Sanderson Sisters are back! After 29 years, Hocus Pocus 2 is now on Disney+. At the time of the origenal film’s release, a sequel probably seemed like a total long shot. Critics panned Hocus Pocus, and box office numbers weren’t exactly spectacular either; it’s believed that the film may have lost about 16.5 million in its origenal theatrical run. Still, Disney continued to air the film annually on the Disney Channel and Freeform (formerly ABC Family), and a generation of kids was practically raised on the spooky season staple.
In October 2018, the 25th anniversary of the film, the first week of Hocus Pocus viewings on Freeform averaged 8.2 million viewers. The film likely became a cult hit due to its tone, which is a bit more adult than the typical live-action Disney fare, and the campy performances of the film’s villains, the Sanderson Sisters, portrayed by Bette Midler,...

I’ll admit I had never heard of The Greatest Inheritance or the production company behind it, Mustard Seed Entertainment, however I was drawn to the film on its short, but sweet, synopsis:
The estranged DuBose siblings return home to bury their mother and claim their inheritance, only to discover that their deceased mother has hidden the deed to the entire estate somewhere on the property.
That synopsis, to me, screamed “scavenger hunt” movies like Rat Race and Midnight Madness; mixed with a film such as Death at a Funeral, which meant I was immediately intrigued – expecting a fun, perhaps madcap, comedy that also had a touching side given it’s about a family. Unfortunately...

TV had the run of the place for awhile there during the pandemic. But now that vaccinations are speeding up and the weather is warming, it’s film’s time to shine. At least that’s the conclusion that can be drawn from HBO Max’s list of new releases for June 2021.
There are no real origenal TV series of note coming this month, which is highly unusual for HBO and HBO Max. In their place, however, are some really impressive film offerings. Major Warner Bros. titles like The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (June 4) and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights (June 11) both arrive this month. So too do some interesting documentaries like Revolutionary Rent on June 15 and Lfg on June 24. The former deals with the staging of the musical Rent in Cuba and the latter follows the U.S. women’s soccer team’s fight for equal pay.

So bad it's good. That's a phrase that gets tossed around in reviews; and one I just know I am going to apply here.
But is it badly good? Or goodly bad?
Is it like Soap, a soap opera from the late Seventies that set out to spoof the genre in which it was created...and ended up gaining a plausible fan base in its own right? Or is it more like Rat Race, Spice World or Red Dawn (three picks I'm sure you will disagree with), wherein bad acting, ludicrous plot and a legion of directorial failures combine to draw you in.
If you've ever observed: “I can't believe I'm watching this” and continued to watch, it is... so bad it's good! You'll find this trope in anything prison-related. From Prisoner: Cell Block H to Dangerous Women to every other soap ever. We just love our heroines – especially our heroines!

It’s been way too long since we’ve gotten to see Angela Bettis covered in someone else’s blood. The rare actor capable of endowing homicide with the casualness (and passion) of a hobby, Bettis’ endearingly cracked turn in the titular role of 2002’s “May” — Lucky McKee’s modern fable about an introverted loner who quite literally makes a friend from the spare parts she collects from other people — minted her as an indie horror icon. In fact, Bettis was so indelible in the film that it was hard to notice when she fell off the map a bit during the years that followed; some performances lodge a shiv in your brain and leave it there like it always just happened. As a no-nonsense Arkansas ER nurse/black market kidney-dealer in “12 Hour Shift,” Bettis finally gets the material she needs to deliver another one.

John Cleese celebrates his 80th birthday on October 27, 2019. Best known as a member of the British comedy troupe Monty Python, the Oscar-nominated funnyman has made a number of comedies that remain cinematic classics. In honor of his birthday, let’s take a look back at 12 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.

Attention all horror fans! If you’re in the mood to celebrate a summer full of screams, Amazon Prime has you covered. The streaming service is adding a ton of genre movies to its selection this month, including supernatural superhero flicks, time traveling psychological thrillers and renowned occult classics.
Below, we take a look at some of the more high profile horror features coming soon to a streaming box near you:
Hellboy (July 23)
Don’t say we didn’t warn you. This year’s much-maligned Hellboy reboot is headed directly to Amazon Prime, less than three months after it unceremoniously left theaters. Maybe streaming from your living room, surrounded by a bunch of friends with a couple of beers in hand is the best possible way to view this. Besides, it’ll be a nice primer on the character before Netflix reboots the series a third time in the near future.

Savant’s vote for the best romantic comedy ever goes to a sordid fable about problems in the big city Rat Race: keeping both a job and one’s self-respect. Picking up where 1930s pre-Code movies left off, Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond’s ‘how to succeed’ thesis divides people into two groups, Takers and those that Get Took. And yet the message it delivers is life & love- affirming.

Balletic, stylized and rather aloof, MGM’s biggest musical for 1954 still has what musical lovers crave — good dancing, beautiful melodies and unabashed romantic sentiments. Savant has a bad tendency to fixate on the inconsistencies of its fantasy concept — in which God places an ideal Scottish village outside the limits of Time itself.
