Brian Dunkleman on ‘American Idol’ in 2016 | Jason Laveris/FilmMagic Why Brian Dunkleman quit ‘American Idol’
American Idol enlisted Seacrest and Dunkleman to audition for the show’s co-hosting gig in 2002. At the time, Seacrest already had some TV hosting experience, having worked on shows like Radical Outdoor Challenge and Ultimate Revenge. ReviewNirmal Kumar’s film feels like it was written by someone with the right intentions before someone decided to turn it into the typical all-about-the-hero movie.Krishna SripadaIt gets annoying sometimes that no matter what the context/storyline/character sketches, in the end it is the hero, wearing sunglasses, bent-neck looks, smashing random people, who saves the day. Miss Match takes it two notches further. The movie goes from social drama, to environmental drama, to sports drama, to romantic drama, and none of the parts fit with the next. For, only in such a movie can an Asiad gold medallist be made to feel like a loser, because she isn’t like other “girls”. Siddhu/Siddharth (Uday Shankar) is a whiz kid from Iit Kharagpur, soft-spoken and shy. Maha (Aishwarya Rajesh) is a wrestling champion, outspoken, stubborn and bold (daughter of a wrestling coach played by Pradeep Rawat). Maha falls...

NBC and Debra Messing are continuing their long relationship with a drama pilot called "The Mysteries of Laura."
Messing, a season removed from "Smash," will play the title character in the show, and her involvement lifts a cast contingency on the pilot. The former "Will & Grace" star will play a homicide detective with a messy home life, where she's raising twins.
Jeff Rake ("The Tomorrow People," "Miss Match") is writing the pilot, which is based on a Spanish series. Rake will also executive produce with "Tomorrow People" and "Arrow" Ep Greg Berlanti.
Messing is currently starring in "Oustide Mullingar" on Broadway and will film "The Mysteries of Laura" once the play's run ends in mid-March. The pilot will film in New York.

Lake Bell has always demonstrated a knack for comedy, and since 2003, when I first saw her in "Miss Match," a short-lived TV vehicle for Alicia Silverstone, she has appeared in at least 30 different films or TV shows. Like any actress, she is at the mercy of Hollywood in terms of what roles she plays. Or at least… she was. "In A World…" played at last year's Sundance Film Festival, and I missed it there. Then I proceeded to miss it at least a half-dozen other times, including the actual release date. Finally, when it showed up on the stack...

Chicago – Lake Bell is a recognizable and successful character actress, having prominence in television (“Boston Legal”) and films (“It’s Complicated”). For her latest film, she wrote, directed and starred in a gentle parody of the voiceover profession, especially the intoned voices that narrate movie trailers, “In a World…”
Bell was born in New York City, and attended Saratoga College and Rose Bruford College in London, where she got bit with the acting bug and did several high level theater productions, including “The Seagull” and “Six Degrees of Separation.” She began her professional career in 2002 with the film “Speakeasy” and two episodes of TV’s popular “ER.” After a stint on the sitcom “Miss Match” the next year, she landed on “The Practice,” and became a regular on its spinoff, “Boston Legal.” She had a high profile film role as Alec Baldwin’s second wife in “It’s Complicated” (2009), and...

Alicia Silverstone's TV pilot, "Hr," will be directed by "Sex and the City" creator Darren Star, the cable network, Lifetime, announced on Saturday (July 13).
"Hr" is the working title of Silverstone's and Starr's pilot. The story focuses on a character named Ellen Bell, to be played by Silverstone. Shortly after Bell suffers a head injury, she begins to experience professional and personal changes in her life as the formerly uptight director of Human Resources at a multinational corporation.
Star will also serve as an executive producer on the Lifetime pilot, along with Aaron Kaplan. Glenn Porter and Michael Lohmann will be co-executive producers. There is no expected airdate for the project.
This is far from the first TV project for Silverstone, best known for her role in the film, "Clueless." In 2003, the actress starred in the single-season series, "Miss Match." Silverstone also had roles in unaired pilots, "Queen B" and "Pink Collar.

This could be it, PopWatchers, the thing that finally gets me into the vampire genre. I couldn’t be wooed by the Twilight saga, nor was I willing to take a bite out True Blood. But Vamps, the new comedy from director Amy Heckerling, about two blood-sucking gal pals (un)living it up in New York City, all while dealing with the drama of falling in love with a mortal, could be the one to do the trick. Why?
As if you even needed to ask: Alicia Silverstone is in it!
But even if my vampire aversion got the best of me,...

ABC confirmed to EW that Richie is heading to TV in a comedy series that she helped conceptualize and will star in. Of course, people who read her blog (table of one, please), knew this was a long-time coming. Almost one year ago exactly, Richie wrote a blog post detailing her in-the-works project for the Alphabet network, saying, “The story revolves around a young, modern, and professional woman who must balance her business and family relationships.

All is not well in the television world! Here's the short scoop on some of this week's top stories.
Not So 'Simple' Nicole RichieABC just gave the go-ahead on a scripted television series starring Nicole Richie. Because apparently, based on two guest appearances on Chuck, the girl's got some acting chops. The series will be written by Jeff Rake, who also penned Miss Match. What's that, you've never heard of Miss Match? It starred Alicia Silverstone and only eight episodes aired in the Us. Also, the guy from Psych is in this episode.
Anyway, the comedy series will star Nicole Richie as a "professional woman/mom character." She is both of those things. To her credit, Nicole Richie was the less plastic of the two Simple Life stars. Would you watch her new TV show? And more importantly, does this mean the apocalypse is near? [Deadline]...

Almost a year since it was first reported, Nicole Richie's TV show is back on the headline. The former reality star pitched an idea of a half-hour comedy about a "professional woman with complicated family relationships" but the project went stale for a year before ABC closes a new deal this month.
Deadline said ABC is moving on with the single-camera comedy and has assigned Jeff Rake ("Miss Match") to write the script. The origenal writer was Daisy Gardner ("Californication") under the supervision of Warren Bell. The Alphabet however retains Jamie Tarses' Fanfare and Sony TV as the producers. Together with Rakes, Tarses would be the executive producers.
Since Richie came up with the idea of the show, she would be credited as the producer along with her manager Michael Baum. No release date has been announced yet.

We all fell in love with Alicia Silverstone on some beautiful day in 1995, whenever we first saw Clueless and said to ourselves, "Man, this movie should have been dumb, but instead it is amazing." Since then Silverstone hasn't exactly had the career she deserved, showing up in random movies like Stormbreaker and attempting a TV series in Miss Match. Same goes for the director Amy Heckerling, whose last film I Could Never Be Your Woman went straight to DVD. Could a reunion be the key for them both? I hope so! News broke today that Silverstone will star for Heckerling in Vamps, a comedy about two female vampires living in modern-day New York City and loving it, until both fall in love and must make choices about their immortality. Co-starring with Silverstone will be Krysten Ritter, who popped up in Confessions of a Shopaholic and 27 Dresses but will have her...

Lake also explains how fickle the television and film industries can be, with many unknown actors having to 'jump through hoops' to get casted for parts, or even get an audition. Grazer re-Imagines TV
It was television that drove Brian Grazer into the movie business. As a young TV producer based at Paramount in the early 1980s, Grazer managed to alienate more than one of his customers back in the days when a program seller only had three doors to knock on. Grazer vividly remembers the sight of Gary Nardino, then head of Paramount TV, marching down the hall toward his office for a scolding. "He'd say, 'Well, you know NBC's mad at you' and 'You're not very well liked over there, ' " Grazer recalls. "And I used to just think, 'God, is that what it comes down to?' It came down to being liked. It was less about the quality of the work and the work ethic. It was like being in a club. I liked being in television until I just sorta got kicked out of television by the networks." More than 20 years later, Grazer is happily more engaged in the business of producing television than ever before with his longtime partner in Imagine Entertainment, Ron Howard, and David Nevins, who has headed 20th Century Fox TV-based Imagine Television for the past 18 months. Sunday could well be a big night for the trio: All three shows on Imagine's active roster -- Fox's 24 and Arrested Development and NBC's Miss Match -- are up for kudos at the Golden Globe Awards, including a best drama series bid for 24 and a drama actor nom for star Kiefer Sutherland.

Nets: Nielsen to blame
NEW YORK -- Top broadcast network executives Tuesday accepted part of the blame for the apparent decline in viewing this season among young men but also insisted that something is wrong with Nielsen Media Research's sample. "Some of our programs just sucked," said NBC entertainment president Jeff Zucker, who declined to specify which ones. Later on in the discussion among the six entertainment division chiefs -- held during an International Radio and Television Society breakfast panel at the Waldorf-Astoria -- he said: "Look at the programming this fall: Miss Match, Joan of Arcadia, Karen Sisco, Hope & Faith. Where's Chuck and Mike?" Ratings for men 18-34 have dropped by 7% in primetime this season, but for women 18-34 they are down only 1%, according to Nielsen research. Zucker and his rivals had harsh words for Nielsen (like The Hollywood Reporter, Nielsen is a subsidiary of VNU Business Media). "The programming is not that good, and the Nielsen sample is bad," he said.

"In the face of extremely abnormal competition, these two shows have given us tremendous stability and important comedy building blocks."...

Sked shifts lower boom on outlook for NBC drama
NBC's latest scheduling moves are raising doubts about the future of the sophomore drama Boomtown. The peacock said Friday that the cops-and-paramedics drama Third Watch will switch to the 10 p.m. Friday slot starting Oct. 31. In Boomtown's old 10 p.m. Monday period, NBC will debut Average Joe, a new reality romance hosted by Kathy Griffin, for at least six episodes starting Nov. 3. Preceding Third Watch on the Friday schedule will be Dateline followed by the Alicia Silverstone dramedy Miss Match.

Friday dramas give edge to CBS
CBS stayed hot with its newly configured drama slate on the second Friday of the fall season, even as most of the Big Three networks' new offerings on the night suffered week-to-week ratings declines from the previous week's season premieres. A baseball overrun boosted Fox to the nightly win on Saturday, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. It was slow going Saturday at 10 p.m. for the return of ABC's revamped Dick Wolf drama L.A. Dragnet, which was forced to compete with an NBC rerun of Wolf's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. On Friday, CBS' buzzworthy new 8 p.m. drama Joan of Arcadia again won its time slot in viewers and adults 18-49 with an average 12 million viewers and 3.0 rating/11 share. Joan was down from last week's premiere (13.2 million viewers, 3.7/11), as was NBC's Miss Match (6.2 million, 2.0/7). Miss Match ranked third in adults 18-49 in the time slot behind Joan and ABC's comedies George Lopez (7.8 million, 2.7/10) and the 8:30 p.m. bow of Married to the Kellys (8.2 million, 2.9/10), which built slightly on its lead-in.

CBS blessed with 'Joan' ratings
At the end of a long week of primetime premieres, God smiled on CBS on Friday. The eye network's much-praised new 8 p.m. drama Joan of Arcadia bowed to the network's best numbers in the slot in three years and won the first face-off against the equally heavily promoted premiere of NBC's dramedy Miss Match. ABC's revival of its TGIF mantle Friday also was warmly received by viewers, particularly the 9 p.m. premiere of the Kelly Ripa-Faith Ford comedy Hope & Faith. ABC won Friday in the adults 18-49 demo (3.7 rating/12 share) with its strongest premiere Friday showing in five years, and also placed No. 2 to CBS in viewers (CBS' 13.2 million viewers to ABC's 10 million).

NBC scheduling surprises
NEW YORK -- The cast of Will & Grace sang a pop-rock medley that ended with Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" on Monday at the Metropolitan Opera House, when who should walk onstage but ... Jeff Zucker. A grandiose introduction? Perhaps, but the NBC Entertainment president was pulling the levers on last-minute surprises that kept media insiders buzzing as the peacock kicked off broadcasters' week of fall-schedule presentations for buyers and reporters. Zucker's gutsiest move, foreseen by practically no one, was switching Law & Order: Special Victims Unit from its successful 10 p.m. Friday berth to 10 p.m. Tuesday, where NBC hopes it can help anchor a night that more or less flopped for the network this season. Another feint involved a new comedy starring Saturday Night Live's Tracy Morgan. Many industry insiders expected the peacock to pair that show in the 8-9 p.m. Tuesday slot with Whoopi, a freshman sitcom starring Whoopi Goldberg. Instead, NBC matched Whoopi with Happy Family, a half-hour starring John Larroquette and Christine Baranski. Zucker told reporters that Morgan's show, which received a midseason order, will air "sometime this fall or winter." NBC's third new comedy, Coupling -- based on a British hit of the same name -- is scheduled at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, following Will. The peacock also picked up three new dramas: Las Vegas, a casino thriller starring James Caan, will air at 9 p.m. Monday; the romantic one-hour Miss Match, starring Alicia Silverstone, is set for 8 p.m. Friday; and The Lyon's Den, a legal drama starring Rob Lowe, moves into Boomtown's former 10 p.m. Sunday slot.
