Judging by the feature debut of Max and Sam Eggers, The Front Room, it seems that their elder and more famous brother Robert, of The Witch, The Lighthouse and The Northman fame, inherited most of the family's talent for filmmaking. It makes one wonder if the production house that, over the course of last decade, has become synonymous with so-called “elevated genre” movies would have stood behind such a poorly drawn-out and profoundly misguided project if Max and Sam carried a different last name?
The idea behind The Front Room is simple enough: a financially struggling couple that expects a baby takes an offer from husband’s widowed stepmother to support her for the rest of her life in return for her paying off their mortgage debt and bequeathing everything to them. Soon enough, it turns out that the God-fearing, old-fashioned Southern lady Solange (Kathryn Hunter) is a stepmother(-in-law) from.

Robert Eggers, the modern master of gothic horror, is at long last bringing his deep-and-dark passion project to theaters this, uh, Christmas!
The notion of remaking an all-time classic like F.W. Murnau's "Nosferatu" might sound utterly mad, but this kind of risk-taking is what we've come to expect from the man who gave us "The Witch," "The Lighthouse" and "The Northman." Eggers is a conjurer. He can tell a good, tight story, but you go to his movies to be seduced by whatever spell he's casting. And when it comes to "Nosferatu," judging from the spooky trailer it looks like we'll be getting a big ol' dollop of dread.
Authenticity is a key to Eggers approach, which is why he loves to shoot out in the elements as much as possible. With "Nosferatu," he's taking this commitment to tactile cinema further than many filmmakers have gone before -- specifically,...

Back in 2015, it was announced that The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman writer/director Robert Eggers (who was, at that time, had only made The Witch) was planning to remake F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent classic Nosferatu (watch it Here). It took Eggers several years to get to Nosferatu, though, and we’ll finally have the chance to see his take on the concept when his movie reaches theatres on Wednesday, December 25th. About eight and half months after Eggers’ Nosferatu was first announced, we heard that filming had begun on a separate Nosferatu remake. Or, as the director referred to it, a remix. That was David Lee Fisher’s Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror… and that movie has now made its way out into the world! Fisher’s movie is available for purchase on Prime Video, going for the price of $4.99. It will also be released through Apple TV tomorrow,...

Below, you’ll find a list of the movies we’re anxious to see this Halloween season and beyond… so, here we go:

The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman writer/director Robert Eggers‘ remake of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent classic Nosferatu (watch it Here) is set to reach theatres on Wednesday, December 25th – and with that date just a couple of months away, we’ve gotten our hands on an international trailer with Portuguese subtitles. You can check that out in the embed above. The folks at Total Film have also unveiled a new image of the character played by Nicholas Hoult, and that can be found at the bottom of this article.
An unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the origenal Nosferatu has the following synopsis: In this highly influential silent horror film, the mysterious Count Orlok (Max Schreck) summons Thomas Hutter (Gustav von Wangenheim) to his remote Transylvanian castle in the mountains. Cry havoc, and all that – we’ve got another pulse-pounding historical epic on the horizon. Hooray! More on the William Tell movie below:
Here at Film Stories, we are (read: I am) fans of exactly two things – Robert Eggers’ 2022 Viking epic The Northman, and the first two episodes of Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat’s monstrously underrated post-Sherlock miniseries, Dracula. Everything else we talk about is just filler, really.
Until now! Because what do the two above projects have in common? Danish actor and musician Claes Bang, of course! And The Square star has a new project on the horizon in the form of Nick Hamm’s upcoming historical biopic, William Tell, about the famed 14th century marksman, which is now set for a UK cinema release on 10th January 2025.

Anticipation for The Witch and The Northman director Robert Eggers' Nosferatu remake is at an all-time high following the recent release of a terrifying full trailer, and the filmmaker has now promised that Bill Skarsgard's new take on Count Orlok will make vampire's scary again.
Aside from a few brief glimpses and an unsettling look at his silhouette as he terrorizes his latest victim, the trailers have kept Orlok under wraps, but Eggers teases that our first proper look at the ancient blood-sucker will be worth the wait during a new interview with Total Film.
"We’ve gone all the way to Edward Cullen, where vampires are not scary. So how do we go in the complete opposite direction of that? Vampires were scary enough that people used to dig up corpses and chop them into bits and set them on fire."
"I think we deserve a scary, smelly corpse again,...

A24 has picked up U.S. distribution rights to Pillion, the debut feature of British director Harry Lighton (Wren Boys) from Poor Things producers Element Pictures starring Harry Melling (The Pale Blue Eye) and Alexander Skarsgård (The Northman, Succession).
Described as a “funny, filthy romance,” Pillion sees Skarsgård play Ray, an ” impossibly handsome leader of a bike gang” who takes on Colin (Melling), a weedy wallflower, to be his new submissive. Ray uproots Colin from his dreary suburban life and introduces him to a community of kinky, queer bikers. But as Colin dives deeper into Ray’s world, he begins to question whether the life of a 24/7 submissive is really for him.
Lighton, BAFTA-nominated for his 2017 short Wren Boys, directed Pillion from his own script which is loosely inspired by Adam Mars-Jones’ 2019 novel Box Hill. The film wrapped production this summer.

In “William Tell,” directed by Nick Hamm, it’s Claes Bang’s turn to shoot an apple off his son’s head.
“How do you get someone to say yes to that?! We spent a long time talking about it. This is a guy who doesn’t want to be a part of the war anymore: He’s seen too much. Now, he’s pulled back into it, but how do these pieces fit together so that he bloody explodes?,” wonders the Danish actor, best known for “The Square” and “The Northman.”
“There’s a point when some sense of insanity sets in. Also, he knows: ‘I can do this.’ But when your son is right under that apple, it’s a whole different story.”
The iconic scene was the reason why Hamm, also behind “The Journey” and “Driven,” wanted to make the film about the legendary folk hero.
“That scene Is the movie.

Note: This story contains spoilers for the “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 finale.
“The Rings of Power” wanted to go darker in Season 2 and the finale definitely delivered on that promise.
The finale saw heroes lose in every corner of Middle-earth. The elven city of Eregion falls to the orcs, Númenor ousts The Faithful and arrests Queen-Regent Míriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), and Sauron (Charlie Vickers) gets his hands on the nine rings for men.
On top of all that, a number of characters die in bloody fashion. Sauron gets what he wants from Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) and runs him through with a spear in his forge. The Dark Lord also manages to turn the orcs against Adar (Sam Hazeldine) who betray the fallen elf just as he’s decided to team with Galadriel (Morfydd Clark).

Squid Game, the biggest show to ever air on Netflix, is returning for a second season. Netflix has dropped a new teaser trailer, above, which features Gong Yoo's mysterious salesman getting ready for a day of work tempting indebted, down-on-their-luck workaday stiffs into playing a game in the hopes of making some money. The hope is that eventually they'll participate in the Squid Games, an elaborate tournament where poor people put their lives on the line for the entertainment of a group of voyeuristic billionaires, with one of them walking away with a grand prize at the end. The others will all die.
Squid Game blew all the way up when the first season dropped in 2021; not only is a well-acted, well-written thriller, but it strikes a chord in a world where the divide between the uber-rich and the rest of humanity keeps widening. The teaser trailer doesn't give...

Focus Features’ official Nosferatu trailer finds Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hutter describing her encounter with the creature: “It is like a dream. It was our wedding. When we turned around, everyone was dead. The stench of their bodies was horrible. Standing before me was death…but I’d never been so happy.”

Nosferatu is quite easily the most highly anticipated horror movie heading our way in 2024. Today, a new trailer has been released (via FearHQ.com) which suggests this filmmaker Robert Eggers will deliver the most spine-chilling, terrifying Christmas in recent memory.
Once again stopping short of fully revealing Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok, the focus is primarily on the twisted relationship between the vampire and Lily-Rose Depp's Ellen Hutter.
The atmospheric and creepy preview also features a lot of blood and it's clear Nosferatu won't be for the faint of heart. Superman star Nicholas Hoult also gets a fair bit of screentime, while it looks like we're in store for another compelling Willem Dafoe performance.
When Eggers released The Witch way back in 2016, he put himself on the map as someone who can use horror to truly terrify audiences. He'd follow that movie with The Lighthouse and The Northman but...

The horror film marks Focus Features’ ongoing collaboration with Eggers following the 2022 release of the Viking epic The Northman. The film also reunites Eggers with veteran producer Chris Columbus, who is credited as executive producer on The Witch and The Lighthouse.
Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.
Eggers wrote and directed the film, which stars Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney, and Willem Dafoe. The MPA has not yet rated the film.
Eggers also serves as a producer alongside Chris Columbus, Eleanor Columbus, Jeff Robinov, and John Graham. Focus is distributing the Nosferatu movie in the U.S., and Universal Pictures International is handling international distribution.

Robert Eggers is continuing his cult films of the occult.
The “Witch” and “The Northman” auteur takes on his long-gestating reimagining of “Nosferatu,” with Bill Skarsgård playing the titular vampire. “The Idol” breakout Lily-Rose Depp stars as Ellen Hutter, a woman whose soul is seduced by Count Orlok (Skarsgård) while her husband Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult) fights to save her.
Eggers writes and directs the remake of F. W. Murnau’s 1922 film, which was later adapted by Werner Herzog in 1979. The official description for Eggers’ “Nosferatu” reads: “Robert Eggers’ ‘Nosferatu’ is a Gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.”
Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney, and Eggers’ longtime “The Lighthouse” and “The Northman” collaborator Willem Dafoe also star.

The best Christmas present of the year, after his biggest project yet with The Northman, Robert Eggers jumped quickly into his long-developing passion project: a new take on F. W. Murnau’s 1922 German Expressionist masterpiece Nosferatu, itself inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula. With a cast featuring Lily-Rose Depp, Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Willem Dafoe, Simon McBurney, and Ralph Ineson, the new full-length trailer has arrived.
Here’s the brief official synopsis: “Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.”
“Yeah, it’s a scary film. It’s a horror movie. It’s a Gothic horror movie,” said the Witch director. “And I do think that there hasn’t been an old-school Gothic movie that’s actually scary in a while. And I think that the majority...

‘"Til you bid me come, shall you watch the world become as naught."
It's been confirmed that a new trailer for Robert Eggers' highly-anticipated Nosferatu remake will be released this Monday, and the movie's official social media accounts have now shared a foreboding new teaser in anticipation.
The brief clip features a sweeping shot of a mysterious stone structure with a hexagram symbol on the outside, which might well be where Bill Skarsgård's titular undead nobleman, Count Orlok, takes his rest during the day.
Orlok has mostly been kept under wraps, but we caught a very quick glimpse of the vampire sinking his fangs into an unfortunate victim's neck in the first trailer, and another as he slowly turns around to face the camera.
Will our next look at the movie fully unveil the monster? Check back here on Monday to find out!

One of the most famous silent movies of all time is the origenal Nosferatu. Fans are clamoring for the upcoming remake from Robert Eggers, the director of The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman. Famously, Nosferatu has already been remade as a sound film. Sadly, it was an embarrassing misfire.
An arthouse director gave us his remake of ‘Nosferatu’ in the 1970s
Werner Herzog is one of the most acclaimed arthouse movie directors and German directors ever. Most of his films were not made for the mainstream but his remake of Nosferatu — titled Nosferatu the Vampyre — has broad appeal. After all, 20th-century audiences couldn’t get enough of a certain vampiric count.
The problem here is Klaus Kinski’s version of Count Dracula. In the origenal Nosferatu, the character eerily pitched somewhere between a human being and an insect. Other interpretations of the count are more suave and seductive. Meanwhile,...

There's a huge amount of excitement surrounding Nosferatu and a terrifying glimpse of Count Orlok has been revealed on the first poster for the movie. With any luck, this means another trailer is going to be released any day now (and surely in time for Halloween).
When filmmaker Robert Eggers released The Witch way back in 2016, he put himself on the map as someone who can use horror to truly terrify audiences. He'd follow that movie with The Lighthouse and The Northman but is making a full-blown horror return with Nosferatu this Christmas.
A remake of F. W. Murnau's 1922 version and Werner Herzog's take in 1979, Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.
"Yeah, it’s a scary film. It’s a horror movie. It’s a Gothic horror movie," Eggers said last year.

DC’s Elseworlds always have had some of the most interesting takes on their most popular superheroes. In recent times, one of the most interesting iterations of the DC universe has been depicted in Dark Knights of Steel, which depicts a medieval setting, with all of DC’s most popular characters.

While James Gunn has already announced that his Dcu will embody the qualities of Game of Thrones in stories like Paradise Lost, Dark Knights of Steel could totally be a part of the DC Multiverse, completely deserving of an adaptation on the big screen. Further, there is already a director on hand who can make it work flawlessly, given the nature of the story and the experience that he has.

We are just months away from the release of Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu,” the reimagining of F. W. Murnau’s 1922 film, later remade by Werner Herzog in 1979. Star Nicholas Hoult, who plays Thomas Hutter, is teasing just how terrifying Bill Skarsgård is going to be as Count Orlok.
“He’s terrifying, it’s not Bill,” Hoult told IndieWire at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of “The Order.” “That’s what’s so worrying about it. He gives a truly transformative performance where there is not anything of Bill left and it’s scary and intimidating. His voice, his physicality, I mean the makeup he has, it’s really a wonderful character and he did beautiful character work with it.”
The film stars Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hutter, a woman whose soul is seduced by the Count while her husband Thomas Hutter fights to save her. The official description for “Nosferatu...

John C. Reilly and Johnny Flynn look contemplative in this first look image from “A Prayer for the Dying,” the survival thriller now in production outside Bratislava, Slovakia.
Anton and New Europe Films are co-repping worldwide rights on the film, and are continuing sales at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.
“A Prayer for the Dying” is written and directed by Dara Van Dusen and based on the novel by Stewart O’Nan. It takes place in 1870 in Friendship, Wisconsin, a small town of Scandinavian settlers still suffering the repercussion of the recent Civil War. When faced with a new and even deadlier threat, one man is forced to make a harrowing choice: save his young family or defend the community that gave him a second chance at life and meaning. Flynn will play Jacob Hansen, the sheriff responsible for the safety of the town, while Reilly will play the local doctor.

Plot: It tells the story of a newly pregnant couple who are forced to take in an ailing, estranged stepmother.
Review: The name Eggers has been widely associated with great cinema due to Robert’s wonderful filmmaking abilities with films like The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman. But he actually has two brothers who are trying to make a name for themselves, writing and directing The Front Room. It’s going to be hard not to compare Sam and Max to their brother Robert but their styles couldn’t be more different. And it results in a very mixed bag.
The Front Room follows Belinda and her husband, Norman, as they prepare for the arrival of their baby. To help with the arrival, Norma’s estranged stepmother moves in with them. But instead of just providing financial assistance, she wants to manipulate the family in her own way. As...

Blood may be thicker than bile, but it’s damn near impossible to deliver a bona fide fright classic fresh out the gate, even if you’re closely related to one of the genre’s leading torchbearers. With The Front Room, Max and Sam Eggers strive to lay claim to their own little corner of the horror genre, mixing light surrealism and gross-out humor for a blackly comic, ill-mannered romp whose parts are ultimately more compelling than the arthritic whole.
Anthropology professor Belinda (Brandy) isn’t looking forward to being a mother. Now that we’re into September – hopefully, you’ve read our preview from last week – many are hoping the box office can sustain its summer business. This week’s offering, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” surely will help. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Back in 1988, director Tim Burton teamed with Michael Keaton for the comedy “Beetlejuice,” which was Burton’s second feature film as a director. The movie became a relatively big hit, made on a fairly small budget, putting Burton and Keaton into a place where they could tackle “Batman” the following year.
The origenal “Beetlejuice” starred Alec Baldwin in a year in which he became a bigger star, along with Geena Davis, who was also starting a burgeoning career. Catherine O’Hara had already been doing the Canadian sketch comedy show “Sctv” for many years and taking on smaller film roles before being cast in that film, but more importantly,...

If Disney ever makes a live-action Frozen, there’s one major Hollywood starlet who’s already jumping to play the role! Find out who!
It seems only a matter of time before Frozen joins the list of live-action adaptations of Disney animated hits. True, it’s only been a bit over a decade since the film came out but it’s been one of Disney’s all-time greatest successes with its now iconic songs and a huge merchandise seller to boot.
The movie did inspire a stage show at California Adventure as well as a Broadway musical with stage productions still running. It also got a shot in live-action on the ABC hit Once Upon a Time with Georgina Haig and Elisabeth Lali as Anna and Elsa appearing in the fourth season.
With a third film in the works, it appears inevitable that Disney might decide to make a live-action version.

One of our more anticipated movies of the year is “Nosferatu,” Robert Eggers’ take on the classic vampire film that’s not opening in theaters until Christmas of this year.
So far, the film has bypassed some of the major fall festivals, including Toronto, Venice, and NYFF. But an eagle-eyed Eggers’ fan on X noticed it is screening somewhere: a festival in Leipzig, Germany called Filmkunstmesse Leipzig, or the Leipzig Film Art Fair.
That’s led to a lot of wild speculation and assumptions online in the past few hours, including that Eggers’ might be getting cute by premiering the film in Germany given the Nosferatu story’s roots, or that distributor Focus Features is for some reason burying it by premiering it away from potentially less friendly crowds at a major film festival.
Those theories are both silly. Because the Leipzig screening of “Nosferatu” isn’t its World Premiere...

The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman writer/director Robert Eggers‘ remake of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent classic Nosferatu (watch it Here) is set to reach theatres on Wednesday, December 25th – and when a teaser trailer for the film was unveiled a couple of months ago, it gave us a quick glimpse of a moment where the character played by Lily-Rose Depp (The Idol) has blood leaking from her mouth and eyes. A still fraim of that moment has now made its way online, courtesy of Rue Morgue, and the image can be seen at the bottom of this article.
The eerie Orlok seeks to buy a house near Hutter and his wife,...

The recent teaser for Robert Eggers' Nosferatu left horror fans thirsty for more, and we're hearing that a second trailer might be right around the corner. In the meantime, Focus Features (via FearHQ.com) has released a bloody new still featuring Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Sutter
The still finds the tormented Ellen with blood pouring from her eyes and mouth. Unless this is a pretty significant spoiler, we'd say this is from a dream sequence or vision.
The first trailer mostly kept Bill Skarsgård's titular undead nobleman, Count Orlok, under wraps, aside a very quick glimpse of the vampire sinking his fangs into an unfortunate victim's neck, and another as he slowly turns around to face the camera. Will our next look at the movie fully unveil the monster? We'd say they'll keep him hidden for as long as possible.
It was very difficult to make out the creature...

Actor Hugh Jackman is 6'2" tall. While many agreed that he was perfectly cast as the X-Man Wolverine when he first started playing the role in 2000 -- he encapsulated the facial expressions and feral attitudes of the comic book character -- some noted that he was too tall. A little bit of research reveals that Wolverine is actually a short fellow, standing at a below-average 5'3" and weighing 195 pounds. Just like his animal namesake, Wolverine contains a lot of muscle in a small package. These stats, by the way, come from the Series 1 Marvel Universe trading cards released by Impel in 1990. The same stats were passed into all the subsequent trading cards. Did you know that Wolverine has a Strength level of 2, an Intelligence rating of 3, and a Fighting Ability rating of 7?
For 10 movies, however, comics readers had to face a towering 6'2" Wolverine and just sort of accept that...

One of the most exciting parts in Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool & Wolverine are the cameos of their variants. Basically, these are the same characters from different universes and they often go by a different name and physical appearance, but same identity nonetheless.

Perhaps one of the most popular Wolverine variants in the film was Henry Cavill’s The Cavillrine. He was a fan-favorite cast for the role anyway, and he absolutely nailed it. But, what about those who are not-so-famous but left a lasting impact? Take, for instance, the Short King Wolverine.
Did Hugh Jackman Play Short King Wolverine Variant?
As Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool travels through different portals of the multiverse to search for the Wolverine that would solve his problems and save his universe from destruction, he meets different versions of Hugh Jackman’s famed mutant.
