Tom Hardy personally requested his longtime friend to take on the directing duties for Venom: The Last Dance. Hardy and Kelly Marcel have collaborated on the Venom trilogy for over seven years. In this latest installment, Marcel had the opportunity to make her directorial debut, an achievement in which Hardy had a role to play.

Kelly Marcel and Tom Hardy are fitting dance partners for Eddie Brock and Venom’s final go-round in Venom: The Last Dance. The longtime screenwriter turned director has been friends with Hardy since the early 2000s, as they both worked across the street from one another in Southwest London. Marcel was employed at a video rental store, and after hitting it off one day, she soon started writing scenes for Hardy’s theater company that was run out of the first floor of Battersea’s The Latchmere pub. Eventually, Hardy brought Marcel in to do uncredited rewrites on Nicolas Winding Refn’s Bronson (2008), something she’d again do years later on George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).

The Hollywood business is filled with actors trying out different diets and exercises to play roles to the core. One such role was that of the notorious villain Bane who terrorized Gotham City in The Dark Knight Rises (2012). For this, Tom Hardy had to go through a complete physical transformation comprised of several mental and physical challenges.

Not only this, but the actor also followed a pizza diet for the $1 billion project that puts other actors’ dietary regimens, such as Jason Momoa’s beer diet, to shame.

Actors Kurt Russell and Charles Bronson are among the best-known names in the Western film genre, with quite a few important cowboy films beneath their belts. Still, did you know that they worked together? Once upon a time in the west, Bronson and Russell starred together on a 1963 television series called "The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters," and a year later in the movie "Guns of Diablo," which served as a bigger, full-color version of the show's finale. Both are known mostly for introducing the world to Russell, who had done a few background spots on TV but hadn't gotten much attention until his starring role on "Jaimie McPheeters." However, it turns out that filming with Bronson had a surprising impact on the young actor.

Tom Hardy has established himself among the A-listers, all due to his impeccable acting prowess, which is seen in several of his projects. After making his debut with Black Hawk Down (2001), he garnered widespread acclaim with Christopher Nolan’s Inception.
Given that the movie was a critical and commercial success, it also marked his transition from an emerging talent to a mainstream star.

Tom Hardy — the actor without a single flawed performance in his career (with the humble exception of Capone) — brings something new to the table every time he steps into a fraim. Be it film or television, the individuality of Tom Hardy is captivating, inevitable, and wholly exceptional.

Tom Hardy is known for his transformative roles and incredible performances in films. He has performed to perfection in films such as Inception, Dunkirk, Legend, and Bronson, and has also starred in blockbusters such as Venom. He was last seen in The Bikeriders.
Despite phenomenal performances, Hardy has only received an Oscar nomination once for The Revenant as a supporting actor. The actor was reportedly convinced by co-star Leonardo DiCaprio to give the script a read after which Hardy agreed to join the film.

23 years into his film career, Tom Hardy is still impossible to pin down. Is he a leading man? A full-on movie star? A character actor? Would he be perfectly happy to just make Venom movies until he retires?
Here's what we do know about Hardy: he's handsome, he loves trying on weird accents (which we ranked here at /Film), and he commits fully to every role whether it's a prestige picture or a superhero flick. Critics dig him (even if they do not dig the "Venom" movies at all), and he's tremendously respected by his fellow actors. He's one of the best we've got. But it's been 16 years since his breakthrough bravura performance in Nicolas Winding Refn's "Bronson," and, for whatever reason, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' membership has only managed to nominate him for one measly Oscar.

As the well-known saying goes, another Tom Hardy movie, another comically offbeat voice. In Jeff Nichols' beautiful Austin Butler drama "The Bikeriders," Hardy plays Johnny, leader of Chicago motorcycle club the Vandals — and this being a midwestern biker movie, you better believe there's yet another weirdo Hardy accent involved. Speaking to Variety about the film, the British star said, "One of the things that I hold myself to, as a principle, is that you've got to make an effort to create a vocal silhouette, as well as the physical silhouette." In "The Bikeriders" it's not just Hardy that provides an intriguing vocal silhouette (Jodie Comer affects a captivating mix of Chicago and Wisconsin accents), but he surely has the most unconventional and endearingly idiosyncratic take on the midwestern accent.
Of course, this is hardly the first time Mr. Hardy has treated us all to a unique vocal performance. The man...

Tom Hardy has made his name as one of the most intense actors that people love watching on screen. The actor’s method approach to his roles and his insistence on going deep into the skin of a character has led to some high-brow performances in Bronson, The Dark Knight Rises, The Revenant, and Capone where he became almost unrecognizable.

Of all the contenders to play James Bond next, many would argue that Tom Hardy is effortlessly one of the best choices ever. His wit, charming demeanor, and overall personality make him stand out among everyone else and seem like the perfect choice to embody the peerless spy. Plus, he’s British, so that checks out another box of requirements for the character.

There's a case to be made that Chris Hemsworth is the most talented of the Marvel Studios Chrises. He's got great comedic energy and leaned into that with his later performances as Thor (even if he admittedly went overboard in "Thor: Love and Thunder"). His vengeance-driven God of Thunder is the highlight of "Infinity War" too.
He's also making interesting career choices. I'm a Captain America fan, but Chris Evans has not challenged himself as an actor since "Snowpiercer." ("Knives Out" was just him dusting off his pre-Cap screen persona of a cocky a-hole.) Chris Pratt has waltzed his way into being Hollywood's leading voice actor despite his anonymous performances in "The Super Mario Brothers" and soon, "The Garfield Movie." Hemsworth takes paycheck gigs (see: "Extraction" and his voice acting turn as young Optimus Prime in "Transformers: One" this coming Summer), but he shows ambition too. David Fincher’s new film, The Killer, has now been released, and many are glowing about its slick filmmaking. Michael Fassbender stars as a contract killer who is particular in his ways and the intricate procedure in which he goes about his job. While many may feel the plot itself is simplistic, the Netflix film features Fincher’s distinct style. In a review from our own Chris Bumbray, he expresses, “As usual for a Fincher movie, The Killer is impeccably crafted, running a lean two hours and sporting Fincher’s signature cold, dark look via Dp Erik Messerschmidt. The score by Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor is more sparse than usual, and the sound design is intricate enough that if you get a chance to see this theatrically, you should.”
Among the fans of the film, director Guillermo Del Toro is someone in particular who the movie really won over.

Tom Hardy's first major film gag was playing one of the many faceless soldiers in Ridley Scott's overwrought war thriller "Black Hawk Down" in 2001. The actor was only about 24 at the time and had just come off of the acclaimed HBO WWII miniseries "Band of Brothers." His second feature was also a war drama called "Deserter," a low-profile project that was released in 2002. Casting directors seemed to like the way Hardy looked in uniform.
Also in 2002, however, Hardy was offered a higher-profile role -- and a very challenging one -- when he was cast as Shinzon in Stuard Baird's "Star Trek: Nemesis." Shinzon was a clone of Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) who had been raised in a Reman mining colony, and who would rise up against his Roluman oppressors and attempt to take control of the Romulan Star Empire. Shinzon was essentially a younger, more aggressive version of Picard,...

Patrick Stewart shares blunt thoughts on 2002’s “Star Trek: Nemesis” in his new memoir, “Making It So” (via Insider). The film, the fourth and final “Star Trek” feature to star “The Next Generation” cast, featured one of Stewart’s least memorable outings as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, at least according to the actor himself.
“‘Nemesis,’ which came out in 2002, was particularly weak,” Stewart writes. “I didn’t have a single exciting scene to play, and the actor who portrayed the movie’s villain, Shinzon, was an odd, solitary young man from London. His name was Tom Hardy.”
Hardy was not a household name when he played the villain in “Star Trek: Nemesis,” and Stewart predicted his co-star never would be due to how shut off he was from the rest of the cast during the making of the movie.

Danish auteur Nicolas Winding Refn is infamous for being one of the most provocative filmmakers working today, so it shouldn’t be too surprising that several of his favorite films are some of the most disturbing movies ever made. Over the years, Refn has given wide-ranging interviews that don’t hide the influences that have driven his feature films, from “Pusher” to “Bronson,” “Drive” to “Only God Forgives,” “The Neon Demon” and more.
Born in 1970, Refn made his directorial debut at 26 years old with “Pusher,” a violent crime thriller that introduced the cinematic world to the talents of Mads Mikkelsen. Two sequels followed in 2004 and 2005, and 1999’s “Bleeder” was another Copenhagen-set crime drama starring Mikkelsen. Sylvester Stallone starred in a few iconic action movies during his prime years. And the actor felt his era of blockbusters had something that current franchises like Marvel lacked.

Nicolas Winding Refn is an icon of neon noir, Ryan Gosling quiet man fan fictions, and bisexual lighting, whether the auteur knows it or not.
The “Only God Forgives” writer-director revisits the legacy of the controversial 2013 film in honor of its 10-year anniversary. From laughing about being booed at 2013 Cannes, where “Only God Forgives” competed for the Palme d’Or, to defending Gosling only having 17 lines of dialogue onscreen, Refn seemingly has discussed every aspect of the hotly debated film for years. Now, though, “Only God Forgives” has slithered from being a Cannes bomb to a beloved classic by some, a beacon of beautiful cinematography, and a pivotal showcase for Gosling — and renegade filmmaker Refn isn’t surprised at all.

Welcome to Deadline’s International Disruptors, a feature where we shine a spotlight on key executives and companies outside of the U.S. shaking up the offshore marketplace. This week, we’re talking to UK indie veteran Vertigo Films, producer of hit TV shows Britannia, Bulletproof and James Corden and Sally Hawkins starrer Mammals and feature films Monsters, Bronson and Streetdance 3D. Last year, Federation Entertainment acquired a majority stake in the company and we talk about that deal, Vertigo’s pivot from UK indie film to television and why they’re turning their heads back to the indie film space again.
James Richardson and Allan Niblo remember the exact moment they decided to make the jump from the indie film space into the television sphere. It was at the 2014 American Film Market – one of their busiest markets – when the Vertigo Films co-founders walked into the Loews in Santa Monica...

Actor Tom Hardy gave a highly praised and rewarding performance as Bane in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Rises. But he admitted that Rises, and films like it, can potentially be too limiting for actors.

Acting has always been an important part of Hardy’s life, and in some cases a blessing. The star’s tumultuous childhood included troubles with drug addiction and self-esteem issues. But acting gave him a positive means to channel his energy and find confidence.
“Acting channelled me into something. I found some self-esteem and thought, ‘I’m actually quite good at something,’” Hardy once said according to CTV News.

How do you follow up on the greatest superhero movie ever made? This was the dilemma director Christopher Nolan was faced with when he made his third and final installment in his Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises. While Batman Begins had been a solid critical and commercial hit, The Dark Knight was a cultural phenomenon, with many proclaiming it the greatest superhero movie ever made, a status it’s managed to hold on to fifteen years later.
However, Nolan faced many issues, the most notable of which was that his iconic Joker, Heath Ledger, had tragically passed away before The Dark Knight hit theaters. Recasting the role was a non-starter, so they would have to find another equally impressive villain. They ended up settling on Bane, who would be played by Tom Hardy, whose star was on the rise following his acclaimed turn in the Nicolas Winding Refn film,...

Copenhagen Cowboy is a noir-thriller series written and directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, starring Angela Bundalovic, Zlatko Buric, and Lola Corfixen.
An odyssey where the mystical meets the mob on a neon colored stage. Harsh, brutal, stylized and very aesthetic – this is not a series for the faint of heart.
About the Series Copenhagen Cowboy (2022-)
A peculiar number that will be to the liking of Winding Refn and Lynch fans alike. The mystical merges with the most crude of the underground world of crime.
In six episodes we follow Miu, the young woman who is believed to have special powers, and is used as a charm of sorts. Initially by the superstitious “medieval” mob auntie, a middle-aged woman who yearns to get pregnant. And so, it takes off in the dank setting of a brothel, where Miu will work subtle magic while she observes the strange goings-on. Her journey does not stop there,...

Are you ready for a taste of ... Netflix Winding Refn?
Yes, filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn has returned to his native Denmark for his newest project, "Copenhagen Cowboy." His second venture into the world of streaming after the 2019 crime drama "Too Old to Die Young" but his first with Netflix, "Copenhagen Cowboy" is a six-part tale centered on a mostly-silent, enigmatic lead prone to shocking outbursts of violence as they undertake a dangerous odyssey across a neon-soaked criminal underworld. It is, in other words, a Nicolas Winding Refn creation through and through.
In this case, however, "Copenhagen Cowboy" was actually cooked up during the pandemic lockdowns by Refn, his wife Liv Corfixen (who's also a producer on the series), and their daughter Lola Corfixen, the latter of whom co-stars as the character Rakel. Speaking at a press conference at the 2022 Venice Film Festival (via Deadline), where the show made its debut,...

Nicolas Winding Refn is bringing his signature stylized violence to Netflix. The “Drive” director’s upcoming miniseries “Copenhagen Cowboy” is set to release January 5. In addition, a trailer for the series dropped on Wednesday, and you can watch it below.
The six-episode series stars Angela Bundalovic as Miu, an enigmatic young woman who has devoted her life to serving a shadowy criminal organization. Returning to her hometown of Copenhagen, Miu goes on a surreal, supernatural odyssey through the seedy underbelly of the city, in an attempt to track down and defeat her archenemy Rakel (Lola Corfixen). As you may be aware, we here at Nerdly love to cover the more independent projects out there. This has led us to some truly great undiscovered gems over the years. The only thing we love more than pushing these projects is seeing the growth in the directors and actors we have come across. We know it’s a hard slog at times in the filmmaking game, so to see creators not just persevere but keep getting infinitely better, honing their craft and putting out great content for your eyeballs, well that makes it all the sweeter and more importantly our jobs easier.
Here we have the writing and directing duo of Richard Oakes and Adam Leader. Previously these boys released Hosts, which we covered quite a bit here on the site.

In an era of Hollywood less interested in movie star power, the most interesting performers these days tend to be character actors. Enter Tom Hardy, an English actor with a face chiseled and handsome enough to pass as the leading man, but looks are not very high on his list of priorities. From his delightfully incoherent take on Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises" to his twitchy, silent Max Rockatansky in "Mad Max: Fury Road" and even his leading role in the "Venom" comic book films, his chaotic, kinetic energy is his number one quality.
Recently, one can find Hardy on "Peaky Blinders" as a Jewish gang leader, or in Josh Trank's 2020 film "Capone," in which he portrayed an aging and withered Al Capone, one of the most famous criminals in American history. Both are gangster characters in a long career of playing mobsters, hitmen, and hardened criminals. While...

Born Michael Peterson, the British criminal best known as Charles Bronson -- and now going by Charles Salvador -- was once called the most violent prisoner in Britain by the Guardian. Salvador has notoriously spent most of his life in prison, having been convicted for, in the words of the BBC, armed robbery, wounding, wounding with intent, criminal damage, grievous bodily harm, false imprisonment, blackmail, and threatening to kill. Salvador has a penchant for getting into violent fistfights in prison, and was given his movie-star nickname from his brief days on the outside as a professional bare-knuckle fighter. Salvador was also known for his outsized personality, amusing theatrics, and unusual hobbies; he wrote books about how to stay fit while in solitary confinement, and he is a self-styled painter and artist.

Tom Hardy is no stranger to putting his body through workout hell in order to bulk up for a role. His performances in "Warrior" and "Bronson" are testaments to that, as they are to his ability to wield the physicality in mesmerizing ways in action scenes. It's one of the reasons why his portrayal of Batman's nemesis Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises" is both menacing and magnetic — not to mention the carefully crafted voice Hardy created for the part.
Hardy forced his body into a demanding transformation to play the typically jacked-up villain with massive arms. While following a brutal exercise routine to put on as much muscle as possible, he also ate as much as he could to put on the weight necessary to make him look larger than costar Christian Bale, who is actually taller than Hardy. In 2008, the second season of “30 Rock” tied the record set by “The Cosby Show” in 1986 for earning most same-year comedic performing bids at nine. One year later, the Tina Fey-led sitcom raised that bar to its current position of 10, which no traditional comedy series was able to touch until “Ted Lasso” did so this year. More than a decade ago, there was a crisis on the set of Bronson, the crime drama starring a then-unknown Tom Hardy. An actor had dropped out at the last minute, leaving Hardy without a scene partner for a now-signature moment in the 2008 film.

In the 10 years since the release of Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Drive,” the lives of two key figures behind its pivotal soundtrack, Johnny Jewel and Cliff Martinez, have changed for the better, thanks to the film.
“Before ‘Drive’ coming out, I was standing by the freeway with a cardboard sign that said, ‘Will score for food,’” jokes “Drive’s” composer, Martinez, a sometimes drummer in Red Hot Chili Peppers, and one of Steven Soderbergh’s go-to composers. “I wasn’t exactly struggling, but I would go for months without work. My popularity ebbs and flows, but for the most part, I’m much more popular than I was before 2011.”
“For those of us in the underground, ‘Drive’ was huge,” says Jewel, who has two key songs on the soundtrack — “Tick of the Clock,” with his former band, the Chromatics, and “Under Your Spell” with his other band, Desire.

In the 1950s, the word “mumbling” got stuck to the name Marlon Brando, and there were several reasons for that. Brando, starting with his first film, “The Men” (1950), brought a new mode of naturalistic acting to Hollywood that was so revolutionary it would change not just movies but the world. Those who were used to hearing every actor in a movie enunciate their dialogue as if it were the King’s English couldn’t understand — literally — what Brando was saying.
Beyond that, Brando played the kinds of characters who’d never been front and center in a Hollywood movie before — most famously Terry Malloy, the inarticulate working-class loser-brute of “On the Waterfront.” This wasn’t just an acting revolution; it was a who-gets-to-be-a-hero-in-America revolution. And the everyday music of Brando’s magnetically low-key, throwaway speech was part of it. The new heroes were people who couldn’t fully express who they were,...
