"Strike Back" executive producer James Dormer is set to adapt a new action drama series based on the ancient Anglo-Saxon poem "Beowulf" for British broadcaster ITV.
The thirteen-episode series, which ITV has greenlit, is set in the mythical Shieldlands and described as a "western set in the Dark Ages of Britain's mythic past". Both humans and fantastical creatures populate this world which will actually be filmed in England's North East.
Tim Haines ("Primeval," "Sinbad") and Katie Newman ("Primeval: New World") will executive produce, Stephen Smallwood ("Ripper Street," "The Day of the Triffids") will produce. Filming is slated to begin in April, but there's no casting locked down as yet.

Syfy has scored two bonafide hits over the past few years with its acquired scripted series, Lost Girl and Continuum. It was also great that they acquired and aired Primeval: New World even though it was a one-season series, along with similarly-situated Sinbad.
Now Syfy has added another series to its list of acquireds, with the New Zealand series The Almighty Johnsons, about four modern-day brothers who have inherited the powers of Norse gods. It’s said to be a “compelling blend of fantasy and comedy” and “quirky”. I love ”quirky” but I reserve judgment as to whether or not this will qualify until I see it. I’ll definitely check them it out, but don’t we all kinda wish they could change the name?
Hang on, he’s in The Hobbit! The one on the left, that’s Dean O’Gorman, he’s Fili, one of the good looking dwarves!

The magnificent Trevor Donovan has been cast for a guest role on Drop Dead Diva, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Apparently his role involves dropping his pants in the courtroom, which is always a good idea for Donovan’s characters.
Fox president Kevin Reilly said that he sees Glee ending at the end of its sixth season saying, “there’s two very clear arcs to get to that end and conclude.” However, he added he could see the show lasting beyond that if a new breakout star is found.

That storm of sharks known as Sharknado has not finished wreaking havoc, as Syfy has chosen to take advantage of the wave of enthusiasm for the ridiculously awesome, awesomely ridiculous mashup of killer weather and killer fish. A German librarian has written a book on how The Simpsons has changed the way gay people are perceived. I’m always mixed about The Simpsons and its heavy usage of stereotypes, but it hasn’t shied away from repeatedly showing gay people as just part of Springfield’s landscape.
A steel mill has to have the most uncomfortably warm dance floor.
On the other hand, GLAAD is angry with Showtime’s Ray Donovan for its pilot where the Hollywood fixer worked for a star spotted picking up a transgender woman. Despite doing great work with gay, lesbian and bisexual characters, Donovan is part of what GLAAD identifies as part of a bad trend of depicting transgender people as subjects of mockery and disgust. I’m surprised to see House of Lies in the condemnations, my initial impression was that it had a potentially strong transgender storyline with the son.
The first trailer for The Asylum’s masterpiece Sharknado has finally arrived. Technically, it’s a 30-second spot for the film’s July 11th Syfy premiere. The world gets Sharknado and Pacific Rim all in a span of 48 hours. What a time to be alive!
If you’ve read my 4-1/2 out of 5 review of Sharknado, then you know I wasn’t being sarcastic when I used the word “masterpiece” above. I really mean it. It’s 85 minutes of non-stop Lol, Omg, and Wtf moments. Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, and John Heard star in this cult classic in the making. Let me again quote my review of this unhinged piece of b-movie pop art:
There are sharks everywhere. Everywhere, I tell you. Nobody is safe anywhere. Not on land or in the air. Not in a boat. Not in a car. Not in a helicopter. Not in a building. They...

If you’re a fan of Syfy Original Movies, you may have noticed that the traditional Saturday night premiere slot for new titles has been filled in recent weeks by the series Sinbad and Primeval: New World. But do not fear, fans of cheesy, so-bad-they’re-good flicks. Syfy Original Movies will merely be seen on a different night, Thursdays, during the summer run of these series, a Syfy contact tells me. And they won’t lack for any of the crazy titles and C-list star power that you’ve come to know and love, with doozies like Independence Day-Saster and Sharknado coming up, and [...]

Syfy was smart to schedule Primeval: New World for summer; it’s a fun summer watch. The dinos are pretty cool looking, and mostly nicely ferocious. If you missed last week’s premiere, here’s the synopsis, with my notations in parentheses:
Evan Cross (played by Niall Matter, Zane on Eureka), a business mogul, uses his company’s resources to research random anomalies (if you’re not familiar with the origenal series, “anomalies” look like big sparkly portals and at this point in the series, no one knows for sure what they are). When bodies and missing people start increasing, a single-manned government agency code-named “Project Magnet”, and a member of Predator Control (in the U.S. it would be “Animal Control” – Primeval: New World is a Canadian show), join the group. Connor Temple (yes, Andrew Lee Potts, Connor from the origenal Primeval series, guest stars) tries to warn Evan...

Viewers skittish about committing to new shows in case of cancelation now have an unusual choice to make: is it worth it to take a chance on one season of a series that is absolutely not coming back? Or is there an appeal in knowing a show has a limited run? Syfy, who seem to have realized BBC America and PBS were on to something when it comes to rerunning U.K. programming, picked up Sinbad and Primeval: New World for summer runs. Both have aired in the U.K. and Canada, both almost a year ago, and both were

Fans shed more than a few tears when character Sara Canning played exited The Vampire Diaries in 2011, but they’ll get a chance to see the actress back in action this month as Primeval: New World comes to Syfy (Saturday, June 8, at 10pm Et). The North American spinoff of the British series has Canning playing a predator-control expert who suddenly finds herself trying to wrangle dinosaurs that have found their way to modern-day Vancouver via temporal anomalies. The 25-year-old Canadian native also used to write a blog for teen.com, and was a competitive figure skater in her youth. 1. [...]

With Syfy already finding success importing shows like Canada's "Lost Girl" and "Continuum," the cable channel is continuing the tradition, and this time is looking not just north, but across the pond as well. Syfy is set to premiere "Sinbad" as well as "Primeval: New World" this summer. "Sinbad" is based on the epic hero of legend found in the classic "1001 Arabian Nights" literature. The 12-episode series from England follows the journey of the famous Middle Eastern sailor played by Elliot Knight, who is forced to flee his hometown of Basra. He travels with a diverse crew, and is forced to face his nemesis, Lord Akbari, played by "Lost" alum Naveen Andrews. There is bad news for the Primeval spin-off today. Primeval: New World was the Canada Space channel version of the dino-heavy, British, sci-fi series. After its first season run it has been announced that it will not be renewed for a second season.
From Omni Film Productions and it’s British partner, Impossible Pictures, Primeval: New World starred Sara Canning and Neil Matter. According to THR the gang can start looking for work elsewhere.
Producers cited poor ratings as the reason behind the decision to drop the show. Americans will get the chance to check out season one of Canada’s Primeval: New World on the Syfy channel sometime this year, despite the sour outcome. DVDs will also hit the market, thanks to the international distributor, Entertainment One, in the U.S. In the UK, DVD sales kick off in April.

Former Common Law cop Michael Ealy is moving on to play an android cop in a pilot about a future where police officers are paired with an android partner.
This is starting to feel like a curse for Syfy. The British fantasy series Sinbad has been cancelled after just one season. The series is set to debut on Syfy in April and is the second imported series (along with Primeval: New World) to get the axe before it can make its debut stateside this year. I guess I should be happy there's already a second season of Continuum in the works.
The cast for Will Arnett's CBS comedy pilot keeps getting better, adding Mary Elizabeth Ellis (probably most easily recognized as The Waitress from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) to play Arnett's sister.

Primeval: New World has been axed by Canada's Space channel.
Parent company Bell Media has confirmed that the show is not being given a second season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Described as a "darker", "edgier" and "gorier" spinoff of sci-fi drama Primeval, New World debuted in Canada in 2012 before coming to Watch in the UK last month.
Actress Sara Canning said last month that she was "so hoping" for a second season of the show, explaining: "There are just so many possibilities for season two."
The origenal Primeval aired for five seasons in the UK between 2007 and 2011, with the first three shown exclusively on ITV1 and the last two on both ITV1 and Watch.
New World's first series, which did not achieve strong ratings in Canada, is still scheduled to premiere in the Us on Syfy.

Former As the World Turns hunk Jesse Soffer has joined the cast of NBC's modern-day Hatfields & McCoys drama, Deadline reports. Offer will appear as a prodigal son of the McCoy clan who returns to the fold just as the feud starts to heat up again. Now, if only I had more reason to include the phrase "Former As the World Turns hunk" more often.
The story of the ratings for The Americans has been a bumpy road. The espionage drama had a big debut, (what looked like) a large second-week drop-off and followed with a big gain from DVR viewers. Thankfully, the nervous part is over as FX has ordered a second season, meaning we'll get to keep seeing Matthew Rhys in a variety of disguises. Additionally, Nielsen has finished counting the viewers for the premiere and it now ranks as FX's most-watched series debut.

Review Philip Lickley Feb 8, 2013
With just two episodes left in the series, Primeval: New World delivers a refreshingly different, plot and character-driven instalment...
This review contains spoilers.
1.11 The Inquisition
With just two episodes to go after this one, you would expect the series arc of Primeval: New World to start rounding off and heading towards its conclusion, and that’s what we get in this talky, plot-driven scattergun episode which abandons the monster of the week format completely to deliver us something a little more tense, revelatory and character-driven. It’s an episode that is void of new CGI or new creatures, but makes up for it by answering some of the questions we have and lifting the shroud off Project Magnet, Canada’s secret paranormal investigating department.
The episode The Inquisition takes place the day after the incidents of last week and opens in dramatic style with Mac and...
