Two inexperienced Portuguese colonizers take care of an ivory outpost, alongside the Congo River.

An adaptation of a short story about colonialism to the Portuguese reality, from the end of the XIX century.

There's nothing really interesting in this film, aside from certain notes about some interactions between the natives and the main characters.

The story could have been more captivating if it explored in depth the sense of grandeur and clear illusions that the characters have, about their role and importance in the so-called "education" of African natives, but it fails in that aspect, becoming boring in most of the time, in a kind of cat and mouse game, when it comes to realizing who really has the power of decision in those lands.

The atmosphere is not cohesive, and has a considerable amount of details from various influences, and that brings more problems to the film.

Nuno Lopes and Ivo Alexandre are two really good actors, and it's not their fault.
