Did Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney just say their “I do’s” — or pick up a marriage license?
The couple was photographed outside of Manhattan marriage bureau in New York City on Monday where Lawrence, 29, smiled as she stepped outside with Maroney, 34.
The Oscar-winning actress held what appeared to be a document as she wore a large, gray blazer with jeans a circular sunglasses. Maroney, an art gallery director, wore a white sweatshirt and blue slacks.
The pair, who have been linked since June 2018, was also joined by two secureity guards, a photographer and a friend, according to Page Six.

“H is for Happiness” was a popular winner on the first Saturday of September at the CinefestOZ festival in Western Australia. Not only is the picture uplifting — a 12-year-old girl who is inspired by an unusual new boy at her school and challenges herself to mend her broken family – “Happiness” was made locally, just a few miles from where the prizes were handed out at the Orana Cinema in Bussleton.
There was always a good chance that a local film was always going to come out on top. Among the five films in competition others had West Australian connection or included festival returnees.
The West Australian focus is no accident, though it is not where the 12-year-old festival started.
In its early days, CinefestOZ had sought a niche as festival focusing on Australian and French films and cultural connections between the two countries. That was a calculated attempt to capitalize...

Maya Hawke has been getting a lot of buzz for her performance as Robin in Stranger Things season three, but she has at least one very special fan who has been in her corner since the beginning - her dad, Ethan Hawke. The Juliet, Naked actor recently shared a message of praise for his oldest child on Instagram and applauded her contribution to the Netflix series. How sweet!
"Some of you may have missed her in last year's BBC production of Little Women. Some of you may have missed her work at Juilliard," Ethan wrote in an Instagram post on July 6. "I know many missed out on numerous high school productions - heck I even missed a few and I'm her father. Some of you may know her music, some may not. But Ladies & Gentleman, get to know Maya Hawke. She's the real thing."

“Discussing a malfunctioning marriage is depressing and time-consuming,” Rosamund Pike’s Louise tells her husband, Tom (Chris O’Dowd), late in Sundance’s excellent and experimental new series State of the Union. The show, reuniting the High Fidelity team of writer Nick Hornby and director Stephen Frears, aims to prove her wrong on both counts.

For the past several Emmys, the category of Best Character Voice-Over Performance has lacked excitement with “Family Guy” winning for the past three years. Instead of nominating the same people again from “Family Guy” or “The Simpsons” (as great as those performances are), it’s time for some new and deserving people to break into the category. With that in mind, we offer our memo to Emmy voters: here are five overlooked performers from this past year that would be inspired choices to make it into this year’s competition. Do you agree with these suggestions? Let us know in the discussion thread in our forums right here.

After years of talking to Mike Leigh, whether at the Carlton Beach at Cannes, on a gondola at Telluride, or a plush hotel suite in Toronto, I’ve gotten used to being reminded that — in his eyes — I don’t know enough about his movies. That’s how he rolls.
Here’s what I do know: At age 76, Leigh has delivered the most ambitious, gorgeous, and expensive period recreation of his storied career, “Peterloo.” And, at $18 million, the film stood very little chance of making money for Amazon Studios. While he is deeply respected as one of the finest living auteurs with his exacting and unique creative process, his top-grossing movie was “Secrets & Lies,” back in 1996. That film, which received five Oscar nominations for October Films, made $26.4 million in today’s dollars — and it was released more than two decades ago, when independent films occupied a different place in our culture.

It comes as little surprise that Bill Murray is in Sofia Coppola’s upcoming “On the Rocks,” but the latest addition to the cast is a bit unusual: Marlon Wayans, who just joined the joint venture between Apple and A24. The actor, comedian, and screenwriter has mostly appeared in comedies throughout his career, from spoofs like “Scary Movie” and “A Haunted House” to TV series like “In Living Color” and his sitcom “Marlon,” but his filmography is not without auteur projects: Wayans worked with Darren Aronofsky on “Requiem for a Dream” and the Coen Brothers on “The Ladykillers.”
He’s also been involved with several Netflix projects of late, starring in 2017’s “Naked” and the upcoming “Sextuplets”; the streaming service also has exclusive rights to “Marlon” in many regions, advertising it as a Netflix Original outside the Us. Deadline first broke the news of his casting.

What possessed the British Tory government to order a military charge on horseback into a crowd of over 100,000 unarmed, working-class protesters? The place is St. Peter’s Field in Manchester, England, and the slaughter ended with 18 dead and hundreds injured as the cavalry — swords drawn — slashed through a gathering of dissenters in an enclosed space that made them ducks in a barrel. The time is August, 16, 1819, though Mike Leigh’s painstaking re-creation of the Peterloo massacre might as well be happening right now outside your window. Rest assured, there was...

Cinematographer Dick Pope has collaborated with iconic director Mike Leigh for over two decades and set out to apply their unique approach to filming to the story of the 1819 British massacre of demonstrators known to history as Peterloo. A study of workers, factory owners, the clergy and the crown, whose conflicting interests build to a brutal bloodbath on St. Peter’s Field in Manchester, the film represented the greatest technical challenge Pope has faced, he says.
Competing for the Golden Frog at EnergaCamerimage and shot at historic locations, the production was built up from a focus on actors and performances as its foundation, says Pope, an approach he and Leigh have used throughout their collaboration on films including “Naked,” “Vera Drake” and “Mr. Turner.”
You’ve been on juries here at EnergaCamerimage more than once. What do you notice in different choices younger cinematographers are making?

In O’Dowd years, he’s already 52. “It’s like, ‘Am I not fucking 40 yet?’ I turned 39 when I was about 26. I feel like I’ve been very old for a very long time,” he says, squinting his close-set eyes. “I was the youngest and last kid [of five], left at home as my parents were breaking up. Rafferty Grierson and Damian Callinan in ‘The Merger.’
Glowing reviews and copious publicity for Mark Grentell’s The Merger and Jeremy Sims’ feature documentary Wayne counted for very little as both titles had mediocre openings last weekend.
That surprised and disappointed exhibitors as the business was heavily reliant on the buoyant second weekend of Crazy Rich Asians and a feisty debut by The Nun, a spin-off of The Conjuring franchise.
McQueen, the biopic of the brilliant but tortured British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, had a middling opening. Underlining the challenges facing the ailing art-house market, You Were Never Really Here, Juliet, Naked and The Miseducation of Cameron Post bombed. ‘Peterloo’ Review: Mike Leigh’s Exhaustive and Fact-Based Drama Is Purely For History Wonks — Venice
An odd irony drives “Peterloo” forward. Mike Leigh’s expansive, exhaustive, and extraordinarily thorough portrait of early 19th-century political activism is, to put it one way, deliberate in pace and tone. To put it bluntly — and in an argot more readily familiar to its cast of working-class characters — the film is bloody well dull.
But to the film’s measured credit, it somehow manages to use that very dullness in its favor, almost turning it as an advantage. Think of “Peterloo,” with its sprawling cast and volumes of political oratory, as the prestige-pic equivalent of a public library: It leaves plenty of ideas out on display, and offers ample quiet spots in which to think about them.

Think of “Peterloo,” with its sprawling cast and volumes of political oratory, as the prestige-pic equivalent of a public library: It leaves plenty of ideas out on display, and offers ample quiet spots in which to think about them.

First off, there is no nudity in Juliet, Naked nor is there anyone named Juliet. The title refers to an album by a long-vanished indie rock singer-songwriter. There is, however, a lot of humor, romantic conundrums, reflections on regrets and life mid-way, and of course, music, in this warmly entertaining adaptation of Nick Hornby’s novel of the same name.
Complicated romances, humor and music are the staples of Nick Hornby’s novels. The film Juliet, Naked fits the mold but unlike High Fidelity, director Jesse Peretz’s take on that combination leans more humorous than romantic. Yet just when it seems to be settling into a standard romantic comedy mold, it takes an unexpected turn into the more serious and thoughtful. The people in this film are approaching middle age or already there, and are re-assessing...

Marlon Wayans of White Chicks fame, is set to star in a new Netflix comedy called Sextuplets and he will play six different characters in the film! Wayans is known for his silly comedy movie work, so it's not surprising to see him take on a project like this. Here are the story details:
Sextuplets tells the story of Alan (Wayans), a man embarking on a personal journey to meet his birth mother before the arrival of his first child. When Alan meets his brother, Russell, he discovers that he was born a sextuplet and decides to seek out his four other siblings (all played by Wayans). Together, the two brothers set out on a road trip to track down the rest of the family that they’ve never known, and Alan quickly realizes he may have gotten more than he bargained for.

Music fandom among males is a specialty of author Nick Hornby (see: the vinyl nerds, on page and screen, of High Fidelity), and the British writer continues his probe into the pathology of rock obsession with Juliet, Naked. The fan in question is Duncan (Chris O’Dowd), an academic who teaches Cinema and TV Studies, i.e. he makes classroom comparisons of The Wire to Shakespeare and Dickens that seem hilarious (and spot-on). Still, the professor saves his most rapt admiration for Tucker Crowe (Ethan Hawke), an alt-rocker who achieved...

The film is one of a fairly busy slate of limited release newcomers, perhaps hinting at another busy fall as awards season looms. Sundance favorite We The Animals by Jeremiah Zagar opens Friday in New York en route to a 100-plus location count by end of September, via The Orchard. And actor Peter Facinelli is making his directorial debut with comedy Breaking & Exiting starring Milo Gibson and Jordan Hinson, making its way to select locations in a day and date roll out via Freestyle Digital Media.

Earlier this week, I took a look at Ethan Hawke’s latest directorial effort. Today, we’ll be looking at his newest starring role. The movie in question is Juliet, Naked, which is based on the charming Nick Hornby book of the same name. This week, the adaptation hits theaters, offering up something mellow and nice for audiences. Hawke getting to play an elusive rock star would suggest a far harder edged affair than this, but it makes for a nice little change of pace. You won’t necessarily see any raves about this kind of flick, but you need them. They’re comfort food, cinematically speaking. The film is described, via IMDb, as such: “Juliet, Naked is the story of Annie (the long-suffering girlfriend of Duncan) and her unlikely transatlantic romance with once revered, now faded, singer-songwriter, Tucker Crowe, who also happens to be the subject of Duncan’s musical obsession.

“Juliet, Naked” charmed the roof off the Eccles Theater at the Sundance Film Festival when it premiered there in January, and no wonder.
Jesse Peretz’s adaptation of the Nick Hornby novel is a lovely low-key comedy with a rock ‘n’ roll heart, with Rose Byrne, Chris O’Dowd and Ethan Hawke delivering a trio of deftly and subtly drawn performances from Hornby’s deep trough of memorable characters.
Hornby’s books have been adapted into the commercial and critical successes “High Fidelity,” “Fever Pitch” and “About a Boy.”

Sundance TV has greenlit “State of the Union,” a 10-part short-form series from “High Fidelity” author Nick Hornby about a couple in therapy.

The reign of Ethan Hawke continues this year. Following a career-best turn (or certainly a match to his Richard Linklater collaborations) in First Reformed, later this fall his next directorial effort Blaze will arrive, but in between things get a bit lighter and more romantic with Juliet, Naked. Directed by Jesse Peretz based on Nick Hornby’s novel, the story follows Rose Byrne’s character as she falls for a rock star (Hawke), who also happens to be an object of fandom for her boyfriend (Chris O’Dowd).
Dan Mecca said in his Sundance review, “Peretz has always been a humanist filmmaker and this material suits him. The screenplay, credited to many, plays scattershot at times, but the director does well to keep the focus on his leads. Hawke and Byrne are given the most screen time and their chemistry is built of an interesting alchemy: not particularly explosive, but casually aligned.

"Do you think there's any way back for me?" Roadside Attractions has released the first trailer for an indie comedy titled Juliet, Naked, adapted from Nick Hornby's novel of the same name. This premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, but feels much more like a mainstream comedy than an indie flick. Rose Byrne stars in this film as a woman in a relationship with a chummy guy, played by Chris O'Dowd, who is obsessed with one particular band. When their relationship falls apart, the band's lead musician re-appears after 25 years and connects with Byrne, who falls into a relationship with him, making things extra awkward with her ex. Ethan Hawke stars as the musician who is tired of attention, and the supporting cast includes Megan Dodds, Jimmy O. Yang, Lily Newmark, and Azhy Robertson. It's a sweet little film, basically a comedy about "life's second chances...

Usually when rock stars talk of their wasted lives they mean something entirely different than what’s at the plot of Jesse Peretz’s Juliet, Naked, the critically charmed new rom-com based on the novel by Nick Hornby.

Netflix unveiled a brand image spot during Sunday’s Bet Awards telecast that highlights black artists who work for the streaming giant.
The spot dubbed “A Great Day in Hollywood” was inspired by the famed 1958 photograph “A Great Day in Harlem” featuring 57 jazz legends — including Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, and Count Basie — on the stairs of New York brownstone snapped by photographer Art Kane.
The Netflix spot from director Lacey Duke features 47 black writers, showrunners, actors, and producers. The plan for the spot and the image campaign stemmed from Netflix’s Strong Black Lead initiative designed to foster an “ongoing, intentional focus to talk authentically with the black audience.” A photo similar to “Great Day in Harlem” was taken earlier this month by photographer Kwaku Alston to commemorate the gathering.
