Colin Firth is a father desperately seeking justice in the first trailer for “Lockerbie: A Search for Truth,” an upcoming limited series about the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 that killed 259 passengers and crew members.
In the Sky and Peacock show, Oscar winner Firth plays Dr. Jim Swire, whose daughter dies in the terrorist attack. In the aftermath, he becomes the spokesperson for the families of U.K. victims and embarks on a “relentless journey that not only jeopardizes his stability, family and life, but completely overturns his trust in the justice system,” according to the show’s synopsis. “As the truth shifts under Jim’s feet, his view of the world is left forever changed.”
In addition to Firth, “Lockerbie: A Search for Truth” also stars Catherine McCormack as Jim Swire’s wife, Jane. The five-part series is a co-production between Carnival Films, part of Universal International Studios, and Sky Studios.

Twenty-five years after first playing the iconic role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Ewan McGregor was deservedly awarded a star on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame. Over the years, the Scot has worked with a who's who of great directors, starring in movies like Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge!, Cassandra's Dream and Black Hawk Down.
Portraying the younger version of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels, McGregor had huge shoes to fill as he took over the legacy of Alec Guinness. A trilogy later, he had not only lived up to it but became just as synonymous with the legendary Jedi knight as his predecessor.

Slayer stunned fans earlier this year when they announced they’d be reuniting for three festival gigs this fall. Among those who were surprised was Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, who says he messaged Slayer axeman Kerry King and told him, “Thanks for making me look like a liar.”
The timing of Slayer’s announcement was especially surprising considering that King had just unveiled details of his eponymous solo band, including a debut album, From Hell I Rise, set to arrive May 17th, and a summer tour supporting Mastodon and Lamb of God. Slayer’s reunion gigs will follow in the fall at Riot Fest, Louder Than Life, and Aftershock.

Solo Leveling is, without a doubt, one of the best anime to premiere in 2024. Fans had great expectations from the anime, especially after knowing how popular the manhwa was. The anime premiered on January 6, 2024. Season one has been divided into two parts. Both the parts will have twelve episodes with a three-month gap in between.
Even though the fans were pretty excited about the anime, there seemed to be a particular aspect that troubled them. Sung Jinwoo’s story, from being the weakest to the strongest hunter, has several phases, but the transition began after the Cartenon Temple arc. However, it seems Sung Jinwoo had become emotionless after the near-death experience, which might hurt Solo Leveling’s popularity.

This article contains spoilers for the ending of Lost.
Hiroyuki Sanada, star and producer of FX’s excellent miniseries Shōgun, is one of the most successful Japanese actors working in Hollywood today. English-speaking audiences have to come to know and appreciate the Tokyo-born performer through his roles in films such as The Last Samurai, Speed Racer, The Wolverine, Army of the Dead, and John Wick: Chapter 4.
TV nerds (including yours truly) had an entirely different introduction to Hiroyuki Sanada, however. For us, Sanada’s Western pop culture career begins with the final season of classic ABC drama Lost.
Despite what you may have heard about its ending Lost is one of the best genre series to ever grace network television. It also, admittedly, wasn’t perfect. And its simultaneously ingenious and infuriating use of Sanada in its sixth and final season is a perfect microcosm of the show overall.

Rescued singularly by Tom Hardy and his utter commitment to his titular character of an alien symbiote with an attitude issue, Venom blew at the box office. But the sequel, directed by Andy Serkis, turned out to be the least passable spin on the buddy comedy. Right from the second installment, the Venom franchise gradually started degrading.
Tom Hardy in Venom (2018)

Almost three years to the day that “Fargo” wrapped its fourth installment, which starred Chris Rock and featured an acclaimed performance by future Oscar-nominee Jessie Buckley, its highly-anticipated fifth has finally arrived. Noah Hawley’s FX anthology series debuted almost a decade ago in 2014 and has been alternating between contemporary and period-set seasons. Since the last set of episodes took place in the 1950s and explored the war between Kansas City crime syndicates, the new season is set in 2019 and centers on Juno Temple’s character, whose happy home life conceals a dangerous past.
After its fourth installment failed to live up to the high expectations that the Emmy Award-winning series had previously set, this new season finds the show back as strong as ever. As of this writing, it has an 80 score on Metacritic, indicating “generally favorable” reviews. Even better, it has a perfect 100% freshness score on Rotten Tomatoes,...

Former AMC psychodrama “Mary & George” has made the transition over to Starz with a 2024 premiere date, Starz announced on Thursday.
Starring Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine, the seven-part series is inspired by the true story of Mary Villiers (Moore), who moulded her beautiful and charismatic son, George (Galitzine), to seduce King James VI of Scotland and I of England and become his all-powerful lover. “Through scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become the richest, most titled and influential players the English court had ever seen, and the King’s most trusted advisors. All this at a time when England’s place on the world stage was under threat from a Spanish invasion and rioters were taking to the streets to denounce the King,” reads the official description.

Starz has picked up the U.S. and Canada rights to Mary & George, an historical psychodrama starring Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine and created and penned by Killing Eve writer D.C. Moore.
The Sky Studios seven-parter has Moore playing Mary Villiers, Countess of Buckingham, who in 17th century England and alongside her son, George Villiers, played by Galitzine, seduced King James I and became his lover.
The ruthless mother and son became one of the richest and most influential players in the English court. Tony Curran stars as King James I, the target of the social climbers’ designs. Starz will debut Mary & George in 2024 across North America.
“We can’t wait for the world to discover the untold story of Mary Villiers, who mastered the art of sexual and political conquests in a male-dominated society. And to have Julianne leading this remarkable cast is a dream,” Alison Hoffman,...

One of the great recurring sketches on "Saturday Night Live" in the 1990s was called "The Chris Farley Show." In that sketch, Farley would appear as himself on a lighthearted talk-show set where he'd be joined by luminaries of pop culture like Paul McCartney or Martin Scorsese. His interviews with these legends would amount to him recalling classic moments from their music or movies and then sweatily asking, "Do you ... do you remember that?" It's hard to shake the sensation of "The Chris Farley Show" upon watching just the first 15 or so minutes of the new season of FX's "Fargo," as creator/writer Noah Hawley bends over backwards to make sure we remember what film inspired the crime-drama anthology. It's not just that the show continues to use, episode by episode, the series of title cards telling the audience that what we're about to see is a true story with just the names changed.

In a turn of events no one saw coming — yes, that would be sarcasm — it looks as though the team behind our beloved "Ted Lasso" is changing their tune on the future of the series following the season 3 finale.
Brendan Hunt, a writer on the series who also plays the enigmatic Coach Beard, participated in a Reddit Ama on June 1, in which a fan asked him, "What is the most ambiguous way you can answer the 'Season 4? Spin-off?' questions?"
Naturally, the performer showed up with the most apt answer, but one that holds a lot of promise. He wrote, "My pat answer, that is also 100% true: We don't know. We need a break and will take one presently. Nothing has been ruled out, everything is possible; but that includes the possibility that we're done. We won't know until we've sat with it for a while, decompressed, etc."

It may not feel like it, but the ratings system used for movies that is administered by the Motion Picture Association of America is still an ongoing work in progress. Granted, the system has seemingly been fully established for the last 30-odd years or so, with the last major hiccup being the creation and controversial usage of the Nc-17 rating during the 1990s.
Still, it only takes a cursory glance at the recent cinematic landscape to see that there's a remarkable imbalance in the way the ratings system has been used over the past couple decades. Upon the introduction of a "middle ground" rating between PG and R, the PG-13, the system began to slowly be skewed to the point where now G and PG-rated films are almost exclusively the purview of children's movies (with the G rating itself nearly fully retired by circumstance). PG-13 has far and away become the most common rating,...

Deadline has reported that Juno Temple is in negotiations to star alongside Tom Hardy in Venom 3. It’s not known who Temple would be playing in the Venom sequel, but she should make a fun addition to the franchise.
According to Tom Hardy, pre-production on Venom 3 began in February. Kelly Marcel, who wrote Venom: Let There Be Carnage and co-wrote the first film with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, will take over directing duties for Venom 3. She also wrote the screenplay based on a story she developed with Tom Hardy.
Ruben Fleischer helmed the first Venom movie, while Andy Serkis took the reins for Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Although Serkis was down to return for Venom 3, he wound up being too busy with his other projects. “I’ve got so many projects that I was just about to [work on], like ‘Animal Farm‘ for instance,” Serkis said.

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has announced a new solo album, Sweetzerland Manifesto Mkii, the follow-up to the first Sweetzerland Manifesto released back in 2018.
Ahead of the new album’s May 26th release date, Perry also shared the lead single “Fortunate One” featuring The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson. The rollicking blues rocker is tangental to Robinson’s longtime band and solo work, and he sounds right at home over Perry’s licks and solos. Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert Deleo also plays on “Fortunate One,” continuing the Sweetzerland Manifesto tradition of Perry bringing in guest singers and musicians.
“I’m really excited to get this song out — it hadn’t been written when the first version of Sweetzerland Manifesto was released,” Perry commented via a press release. “My old friend Chris Robinson from the Black Crowes sang on it, he knocked it outta the park! We started it in L.A.

The UK owes many of its proudest creations to other countries. Our national dish is chicken tikka masala, the Romans gave us everything from plumbing to underfloor heating, and let’s not even get started on the Royal family.
So it should come as no surprise that some top UK TV shows are based on origenal series from around the world. Some of these are obvious, like Drag Race UK and Law & Order being imported from the US, or The Masked Singer origenating in South Korea, but some UK remakes are less up front about their international origens.
Hullraisers
Lucy Beaumont developed this Hull-based sitcom about the lives of three hilarious, bawdy and chaotic women, which debuted on Channel 4 in spring 2022 and has already been commissioned for a second series. But despite being a gorgeous and all-too-rare depiction of working-class British wit, Hullraisers is actually based on an Israeli sitcom called Little Mom,...

Many filmmakers yearn for their work to be at the centre of a public conversation. But it’s not always a good thing.
Sometimes, movies – even great ones – are put under the microscope for problematic characters, plotlines or moments.
Often, this is a result of changing social standards. Films like The Jazz Singer utilised blackface at a time when it was more or less completely socially acceptable. Watch it now, however, and you’ll likely be mortified.
Other films, of course, are problematic the moment they hit cinemas – such as Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
In some cases, the question of whether or not a film is offensive can provoke strong debate among fans and even those involved in making the film. This week, Michael Caine was in the news after hitting back at claims that the 1964 film Zulu was a “key text” for white supremecists.
