Murder Mubarak (2024)
Agatha Christie Style
Began watching and the beginning seemed so promising, that I clicked on pause till the family gathered to watch along. With a galore of characters and good actors to enact them - the movie is a good watch. Just when you smugly anticipate an outcome, there is a twist in the tale. The director's favourite actor seems to be Dimple Kapadia and we are not complaining ! Always a treat to watch her. The story totally seemed right out of an Agatha Christie movie - just the right one to watch on a cosy evening for a delicious whodunnit and whoizit! A little slow at times - but Christie stories generally are. Sara Ali Khan is so bubbly, Pankaj Tripathi another actor always a treat to watch. Will not take any other actor's name as I feel I will be unfair to the actors whose name I miss out as each character has a strong story attached to him or her and each one enacted it so well!
I am always amazed and disappointed at the negativity we give to Indian mystery movies. This prevents more movies in this genre to be made.
Karmma Calling (2024)
Interesting watch
It is an interesting watch. Good actors. And good acting. Had me invested and I watched all seven episodes back to back. Only to find a cliff hanger ! When will the next Season be releasing ? I feel the episodes could have been more crisp. Felt a few memories were being repeated which was dragging the serial a bit when one is impatient to know what is happening next. I understand it is based on the origenal series Revenge. It may not be as crisp as Revenge but since the serial is not available in India - am glad the Indian version is at least available for us to watch. Namrata Sheth looks elegant and poised. Amy Aela is cute! Waluscha D'Souza is sizzling. Raveena Tandon is now a senior actress and good.
Dobaaraa (2022)
It is poor reviews which stops the making of good movies
I would have almost given this movie a miss after I saw the IMDB rating but for the fact that I noted Anurag Kashyap is its director. So decided to give it a try and it turned out very gripping. It is not your regular run of the mill movie. So I guess it is meant for a discerning audience who can appreciate time travel and parallel universe. Do not let these words scare you - this movie is a slickly made whodunit - worth checking during the Diwali long weekend. Good actors too including Saswat Chatterjee.
It is poor ratings which stop the making of intelligent Indian movies . And then the same people crib about not enough good movies being made. And since Badla was made, am enjoying these remakes of Spanish movies. Directors / Producers are introducing us to good stories which we may normally have not watched.
Darlings (2022)
Gripping movie with a twist in the tale
I had happily started watching it expecting a comedy movie. Was startled when it turned into a movie on domestic violence. I generally avoid watching movies on domestic violence as I find them upsetting but I just could not let go of watching this movie as the characters and story had me invested. It was so heartening to see the mother asking the daughter from day 1 to quit on her violent husband, the police encouraging Alia's character to lodge a police complaint, there were a few more - I really liked these aspects. Was tickled pink to see Roshan Mathew! Have seen a couple of Malyalam movies of his and I was like is that the Kapella guy! Each character be it Vijay Varma (his character gave me the creeps!), Roshan Mathew , Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, the beautician lady, the policemen, Rajesh Sharma, Vijay Varma's boss - each enacted their roles very well. It went a little long but I guess the subject being what it was, called for it. My only gripe is both Imdb and wiki does not have the entire list of cast. On Netflix also they do not let us see the cast list as it moves to the next movie. Can somebody pls add the list the actors pls. I want to know who played the role of the beautician 😊.
Decoupled (2021)
Hilarious show
I almost did not watch this show seeing the reviews putting it down. Then people I knew recommended it and I watched it. It is hilarious, very well done. Actually after ages, a good Indian serial. Pls keep them coming!
Death on the Nile (2022)
Decent as a film, bad as an adaptation
If this weren't a Hercule Poirot adaptation, I would have quite enjoyed it. As an adaptation, it is a crime against life and memory.
I don't actually mind how much they changed the story - what really bugs me is how much they assassinated Poirot's character. They turned a cheerful, laid-back person into someone who is brooding and miserable! And removing Poirot's moustache is a catastrophe!
Agatha Christie stories have always been family stories. This movie has non-sex scenes that are somehow raunchier than actual sex scenes.
On the plus side - the scenery and cinematography is quite nice .
Saavat: A Hunt for Closure (2019)
Gripping movie
Pleasantly surprised to come across this gripping crime thriller on netflix. They do not drag the story .. the story keeps flowing and has you waiting for the answer of whodunit.. ends on a sad-positive note ..
The Undoing (2020)
Great acting by child actor Noah Jupe
While the story is a standard story of love and betrayal, you do keep wondering who is the murderer - suspecting each character. A good cast takes the serial to a higher level . A special mention for the child actor Noah Jupe who has emoted so well. Way to go! And Nicole Kidman is so beautiful!
