Nightmare Alley (2021)
Hmmm
I waited awhile to review this, and I keep coming back to it in my mind. I wasn't sure what to rate this movie, and it may be the first Del Toro film that I'm actually stumped on. There's something missing here, and I can't put my finger on it. Fans of Del Toro's previous work will understand what I mean. The acting was good... the production quality was good... the story was good... but something's missing. I'm not sure if I'd recommend this one, but if you do watch it, save it for a boring rainy day. I'll give it a 6.
Moonfall (2022)
What?
I had trouble understanding what genre this was, or even why this movie exists in the first place? I can possibly see where they where going with it... but the story is ripped straight from every other sci-fi you've ever seen. There were parts where I laughed but I realized this wasn't a comedy, nor trying be "The Orville". I would recommend it for film students to take notes so their movie doesn't flop this badly.
Death on the Nile (2022)
Yawn
Great production quality, wasted by a total snooze-fest of a movie. Story is predictable, performances are sub-par... all of the above muddled with the effort to try and keep Gal Gadot relevant. You can miss this one, boys!
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022)
Welp
I had to give this a watch after seeing "Pig" last year. I love the ongoing joke that Nic Cage has with himself and his own career, and that he can capitalize on it in this way is extraordinary!
I suggest this for those that love to see and support a good comeback story. It's worth it! And it's actually a great movie!
The Lost City (2022)
Fun.
This movie doesn't take itself seriously at all, and I suppose for the times that we're in that this is a-ok! It was awesome to see some familiar faces on the screen, some who we grew up with. It made my cold day in Toronto a little warmer.
Would recommend for those looking for an escape from life!
