Star Wars: Tales of the Empire (2024)
As great as Tales of the Jedi
I'm really happy Disney is continuing to make short animated episodes like this. It's been really fascinating to see characters fleshed out in their own stories, rather than being shoehorned into another hero's show. Just like Tales of the Jedi, we're treated to top notch animation, lightsaber fights, music, and returning performances. I did appreciate that this time around they chose to focus on underappreciated characters.
I do wanna comment on how some of the negative reviews here are completely illogical. One fine gentleman found Barris Offee's arc from a terrorist to a healer monk unbelievable. If that bothers you so much, I'm not sure why you're watching Star Wars in 2024. You should have abandoned it 40 years ago when Darth Vader, who was formerly a serial killer of children, became benevolent and redeemed at the end of his life in Return of the Jedi. Barriss's arc takes place over a similar amount of time (starting in the Clone Wars and ending in the late Imperial era). If you can accept Anakin's redemption you can accept Barriss's.
A couple other fine people conplained about how "unimportant" these episodes were compared to Tales of the Jedi, since they "didn't reveal any new information that wasnt already implied". I implore these folks to rewatched TotJ. Ahsoka being force sensitive as a child, training under Anakin, and then coming out of exile to join the Rebellion wasn't new information. Neither was Dooku becoming dissolutioned with the Jedi Order and Republic's corruption and turning to the dark side.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
In no way worse than Ant Man 1&2
"Linear and simplistic" "paper thin plot" "tropes slapped together" "derivative, disappointing waste of time" "forgettable" "lacking depth" - other reviews posted here.
I'm sorry, did we watch the same cuts of Ant Man 1 and 2? And if so where can I stream those? Because I remember the first 2 movies being exactly all that. The Ant Man movies have always been some of the most mid, inconsequential, skippable movies of the MCU. It's positively ludicrous to claim this movie is a significant downgrade from the first two movies like the scores show, unless the only thing you cared about was Luis because everything else is the same in terms of quality. Except of course the villain, Kang, who is extremely compelling, threatening and acted.
Shout-out to the guy who said "Remember the menacing villain who made you feel uncomfortable and tense not knowing what was going to happen next?" about the previous Ant Man villains. No dude, I don't remember Darren Cross (generic money hungry maniac), Sonny Birch (just a plain dude with no powers) or Ghost (lmao can't even remember her real name) being menacing or making me feel uncomfortable. Kang did though.
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (2013)
AC4 Brings New Life to the Franchise
Before this game, all previous Assassin's Creed games felt the same. It even made WatchMojo.com's top 10 most overrated games list due to Assassin's Creeds 1-3 all playing extremely similar. The latest installment, however, added a new feature that took up half the game. This feature, of course, is the Naval aspect. Fans got a taste of this in Assassin's Creed III, but it is nowhere near the level Of 4. Whether it's hunting sharks, collecting cargo, sailing to an island, seeking treasure or engaging in Naval Battles, sailing pirate ships in AC4 is an incredible and well polished gameplay mechanic. Aside from that, it also made the world feel more real, since you could almost all of the Caribbean sea. Not only is this a must have for any Assassin's Creed fan, but it's also a great game for new players to start, since the story no longer follows Desmond Miles.
