About us
CERN is a truly unique organisation. A genuine collaboration between countries, universities, and scientists, driven not by profit margins, but by a commitment to create and share knowledge. People here are part of immense scientific discoveries, answering some of life’s most complex questions and pushing the boundaries of understanding. Experts from every field come here to share in this ambition and the nature of this collaborative, international community creates a genuine atmosphere of trust. People are free to work creatively and to trust in, and rely on, their colleagues across the organisation. History’s being made here – and the excitement is tangible, inspiring, and overwhelming at times. It is the only place in the world where you can do this work in this way. --- If you’ve worked at CERN in the past, why not join the official CERN LinkedIn Alumni group, linked from this page.

🤖 Seven CERN-developed technologies, created to solve some of the hardest scientific and engineering challenges in the world, are now accessible to entrepreneurs and deep-tech founders. These technologies have applications across fields such as AI, medtech, aerospace, automotive, fintech, telecoms, cloud infrastructure, smart cities, environmental sensing, quantum, and beyond. From a laser achieving an outstanding 100x reduction in linewidth compared to traditional multi-mode lasers, a specialised ultra-low current measurement device designed for harsh environments, to a data management system capable of processing exabytes, CERN Venture Connect's portfolio of technologies is not theoretical but tested, proven and transferable to startup and scale-up businesses. 💡 If you’re building with ambition, there is a good chance that one of these technologies can give you a competitive edge. ➡️ Swipe to explore each technology and some of their real-world applications. Follow us to learn more over the coming weeks as we dive deep into CERN Venture Connect technologies and explore how we can support your business' growth. 🎥✨ CERN openlab summer student project spotlight! This summer, Danae Broustail, a student from ETH Zürich, joined the CERN openlab summer student programme to work on a project that blends history, technology, and accessibility. Giving new life to digitised particle track photographs from the 1970s! In 2024, tens of thousands of these historical images were digitised and stored on CERN’s EOS Data Cloud. Danaé's mission? To design and implement a process for organising these images into albums and public records on the CERN Document Server, making them accessible to the world for the very first time. 💻 This project is a great example of how computing can connect past and present, preserving CERN’s legacy while using modern tools to share it widely. #CERNopenlab #SummerStudentProgramme #DigitalPreservation #ScienceHeritage #CERN

With Global Plastic Treaty talks resuming this week in Geneva, CERN is set to host an event to show how citizen science, supported by #artificialintelligence, can help combat global #plasticpollution. The event is a chance to learn more about the #EU-funded EDGE SpAIce project 🛰️ What is the project about? 🛰️ It aims to develop a deep neural network (DNN) that — using CERN’s open-source, machine learning tool, HLS4ML— can process ocean images directly in #space to, for example, detect marine plastic litter, and then only send the most important images back to ground stations, reducing data load and improving efficiency. You can follow the event online at the link below and find out how you, with the help of AI tools, can help to end plastic pollution. 💻 https://lnkd.in/g-5UTWKg 📅 8 August, 2025 🕒 14:00 - 16:10 Learn about how HLS4ML is being used in the Edge SpAIce project: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eE8hvVzJ Edge SpAIce is a #HorizonEurope funded project, in collaboration with EnduroSat, National Technical University of Athens, and coordinated by Agenium Space Sioni Summers Nick Ziogas Ana Rita Pinho Dr. Andis Dembovskis Simon Vellas Boyan-Nikola Zafirov #Cleantech #AI #MachineLearning #Environment #Sustainability #Innovation #BeatPlasticPollution #PlasticsTreaty
