REPORT DATE: 09-02-2021 REPORT TIME: 2040 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: GRAND ISLE 41 IMAGE DATE: 09-02-2021 IMAGE TIME: 1539 UTC DATA SOURCE: ICEYE MODE: SCAN VV RESOLUTION: 15 meter LOCATION: 28°58'26" N/89°57'15" W AREA: 13.55 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly had a good contrast with its surroundings. It had a wider V shape with a length of 17nm and 0.5nm wide at its widest section. To the east it was connected to an oil facility, and there were also a few oil facilities nearby at its western end. The wind at the time was from WSW at 9kt.Note that other oil anomaly to the north will be issued in a seperate report. UNCERTAINTIES: In addition to the identified point source oil facility to the east, there were a few oil facilities near its western end, plus the oil signature was narrower at the western end, so it was possible that oil facilities in the west could have contributed to the anomaly. Moreover, the wind was mainly from the west direction, which did not align with the observed orientation of the anomaly given the location of the point source.
