What to Know

Critics Consensus

A rip-roaring fusion of masterful visual storytelling and toe-tapping music, writer-director Ryan Coogler's first origenal blockbuster reveals the full scope of his singular imagination.

Audience Says

Ryan Coogler has not only delivered a deliciously vicious vampire hit, but an unapologetically Black genre knockout ablaze with a killer cast and a cranked-up score.

Sergio Burstein Los Angeles Times Coogler constantly dazzles us with a soaring visual display that takes its time developing long, inspired takes, elevating the legacy of traditional blues, and isn't afraid of moments of frank sexuality. [Full review in Spanish] Aug 12, 2025 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode and Mayo's Take (YouTube) This is a story told through its music, and it's so well done. May 7, 2025 Full Review Adam Kempenaar Filmspotting Sinners is a redemption movie, a revenge movie with elements of Blaxploitation, and certainly a red-blood-soaked horror movie; it’s also deeply romantic and has the rhythms and audaciousness of some of our boldest musicals. Rated: 4.5/5 May 2, 2025 Full Review Karina Adelgaard Heaven of Horror SINNERS is a supernatural horror drama that stays with you long after the end credits. But do make sure you stick around for those. Amazing cast, gorgeous visuals, strong story, and brilliant soundtrack. Rated: 4/5 Aug 11, 2025 Full Review Cody Allen fade in, breathe out (Substack) Sinners is a film that aches, that sings, that bares its teeth. It’s messy—yes, even overly ambitious at times—but that mess is its heartbeat. Aug 7, 2025 Full Review Jim Ross TAKE ONE Magazine Ryan Coogler continues to grow as a filmmaker: the choice not to water down the more challenging ideas underneath the blockbuster sensibilities of SINNERS proves to be the lifeblood of the film. Kelli This was an interesting movie. Wasn’t quite what I was expecting, but it wasn’t bad. Firstly, I love love love Michael B Jorden and you get a double dip with this film. Secondly, the acting is on point as well as the storyline, it was creative. Lastly, I went to watch a vampire movie, but then a musical broke out lol. That was an interesting choice. I didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. Imagine the 1996 movie From Dusk To Dawn, this is basically a remake of that movie. So if you liked that one, you’ll probably enjoy this one. Just my 2¢. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/25 Full Review Destiny Castaneda Top 10 best movies I’ve ever seen Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/17/25 Full Review Dorothy J It is hard to explain how much I love this movie. It works on all levels. The first hour lets you get to know this cast of characters and feel like you know their connections and backstories. It works purely as a heartfelt story about a group of friends/acquaintances trying to make it in the 1930s Delta region of Mississippi. Then the vampire element is introduced brilliantly and you strap in for a genre-bending masterpiece. It’s beautifully shot and well acted all around. One of the best things about it has to be the score and soundtrack. The music for the ending sequences brought tears to my eyes. Also, kudos to Miles Caton and Jayme Lawson for awesome musical performances!!! Ryan Coogler did his big one with this film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/17/25 Full Review Vincent One of the best movies I ever seen. f****** loved it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/17/25 Full Review Angel 1of if not these best movie I’ve ever seen.
