Who is "XXXXXX" and why is she here? Reckon you'll see...
Written from a December 2004 short story tossed together in a known actor’s bedroom, the converted screenplay began when yet another actor, notable at the time for a major franchise he was leading, had his company get behind it.
Didn't happen.
Meanwhile, actor Xander Berkeley, who you've seen in too many things to count, decided the character "Percy" was one of the finest he'd read and wanted the role. We signed some paper, but things came and went and "XXXXXX" hit the shelf...no fault to X-Man, for sure.
Later, a former head of Disney read "XXXXXX" and offered a personal spot in his private reading circle, as he prepared his new fiction novel for distribution. I was placed in a group as one of four, the other three were legendary horror and drama authors. Household names, even.
So, why me...?
Adding to the list, in summer a few years ago I was able to reconnect with old pal Janusz Kamiński...who gave me the name "Lance Vegas" aeons ago. Anyway, we talked at the Paramount lot about changing "XXXXXX" locations from Manhattan to Los Angeles. Why? So he could direct, and not leave LA for the work! Haha!
Love Janusz. Some find him tough, but I've experienced nothing but a deep, intelligent, artistically brilliant man with one hell of a sense of humor.
"XXXXXX" (we call it "Six-X" in discussion) is a wild crowd pleaser, with mystery and points of view. The main character Frank, in his early 30s, has a lot to say about the world and does so often. His almost subconscious style of voice over was adopted by an actor on Twitter, lasting a year or more. When the actor dropped the way Frank spoke, his fans actually discussed it in their forums: they wanted it back, and wondered why it changed at all.
Today I'd love to see Ethan Peck in the Frank lead. (Frank's last name is Ethan, an odd coincidence.) Peck is pretty spot on, and a very cool dude (so I hear). As for "XXXXXX" herself, that would be difficult to cast. Perhaps a 27 to 32 year-old French woman of the Paris theatre...? A layered character task, but that performer is surely out there.
"XXXXXX" is a story not easy to describe. A romance set in modern Manhattan, with elements that exceed known science. Then add some hyper-quantum physics that mimic the supernatural, and some fun comedy all around.
"XXXXXX" is enigmatic as her name, and her ultimate secrets are truly beyond revelation. She does like the subway, though.
And John's of Bleecker.
