Riverdale, the CW‘s pilot based on the Archie Comics characters, has cast the last main role, with Camila Mendes landing the part of Veronica.
Set in present time, Riverdale is a subversive take on Archie (KJ Apa), Betty (Lili Reinhart), Veronica (Mendes) and their friends, exploring the surrealism of small-town life — the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome façade.
Mendes’ intelligent and confident Veronica Lodge is a silver-tongued high school sophomore who returns to Riverdale from New York, eager to reinvent herself after a scandal involving her father.
In the pilot, from Warner Bros. TV, Petsch also joins Ashleigh Murray, Cole Sprouse (Jughead Jones), Madelaine Petsch (Cheryl Blossom) and Luke Perry (Archie’s dad Fred Andrews).
Newcomer Mendes is repped by The Carson Kolker Organization.
Veronica as a Latina is a nice addition of diversity without changing the characters for the sake of change.
The comic geek in me wants them to dye her hair black, blue black, though.
The whole cast needs their hair dyed imho.
