They all will join previously renewed fan-favorites Abbott Elementary (Season 5) and High Potential (Season 2), and the forthcoming 9-1-1: Nashville (starring Chris O’Donnell), on ABC’s 2025-26 primetime schedule.
That leaves just one bubble show: Doctor Odyssey. The Joshua Jackson drama has been averaging 4.9 million weekly viewers, demonstrating just 77% retention out of 9-1-1 — only slightly better than what Grey’s did in the 9 pm time slot last season. Sources tell TVLine that ABC remains engaged in creative conversations about a potential Season 2, and its fate will be decided at a later time.
Joshua Jackson in Doctor Odyssey Courtesy of ABC
Out of the six dramas that ABC has aired this TV season, Will Trent ranks No. 2 in audience, trailing only the aforementioned freshman hit High Potential, averaging a hair over 7 million weekly viewers (with Live+7 playback). 9-1-1 ranks third, The Rookie is fourth and Grey’s ranks last (behind Doctor Odyssey).
Shifting Gears, meanwhile, is ABC’s most-watched comedy (of three) thus far this TV season, and ranks No. 3 amongst all broadcast sitcoms, trailing only CBS’ Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage and Ghosts.
TVLine’s handy Renewal Scorecard has been updated with ABC’s five pickups. Which shows are you most excited to see return to the lineup next season?
So happy, really like what ABC is doing right now by supporting the scripted series that they do have. Watch Shifting Gears and The rookie, and Abbott Elementary. Glad they are all coming back next season
Great news! It’s nice to not have to wait as long as last season to find out about the Rookie’s renewal. Do we know how many episodes have been ordered for season 8 of the Rookie?
And ratings are just so-so. It’s only doing slightly better than Grey’s in live viewers, despite having a better timeslot, and it doesn’t do nearly as well on streaming.
That’s because it’s mainly a cast of couples and crew members and passengers who get it on as much as possible I would have loved to see a large outbreak of a nasty STD or Aids…one that includes rashes etc. e, and given the last few eps….without protection. Any exterior threats are small and settled quickly.
Doctor Odyssey could be a great show. Joshua Jackson is the best thing! However, it needs to be more quirky and in order to do that, needs to go to streaming services so they can make it non-PG.
I wanna love it but they are all over the place. The doctor having a 3-some with his direct reports was a horrible idea. I started to let the episodes pile up on my DVR. Binging them is slightly better. They need to focus on other characters more. I’m a little bored with Max, Avery and Tristan. Notice how the hot chef who hooked up with Tristan just disappeared?
Thar description is why I think they should renew it but premiere it Monday mid season after The Bachelor (I am assuming 9-1-1: Nashville will take it’s current time slot). ABC has had the fewest scripted series of the big 4 this season despite FOX having an hour less each night, and it’s pathetic they have been using Hulu reality repeats (if doing this, save them for summer!). The other option I could see would be Wednesdays midseason, because it has a bit of a comedic tone. I am thinking maybe fall they will go with Shifting Gears, Abbott, Golden Bachelorette (which aired on Wednesday but earlier last year), and then midseason after football, Bachelor is back on Mondays opening up the rest of the night. Maybe Shifting Gears, new family comedy (there are ones in development with the likes of Cobie Smulders and Jessica St. Clair in the works), Abbott, Scrubs revival, and then maybe Doctor Odyssey. With being lighthearted more than the other dramas while also having romance elements, it could easily fit in after Bachelor or comedies, and have a mostly uninterrupted run like Will Trent has this season.
Plus remember that shifting gears was a mid season replacement as both home improvement and lms were full 22 episode orders after they shot the pilot and to me it started with the 5th episode which was actually the 2nd episode shot and oh it also helped that the person who directed that episode was a sit-con vet herself and on the floor this week she was in the category of nerdy characters and she also worked on Lopez vs Lopez and directed there best episodes in Danielle fishelle
So happy for 911. My only real issue w/The Rookie is, at least from my point of view, it’s getting repetitive. The Monica story has gone on way to long. They need a new big bad to keep the show fresh. Also I’d like to see more action and less relationship drama.
of course they did, typical of networks to renew their most-watched shows, “Shifting Gears, meanwhile, is ABC’s most-watched comedy (of three) thus far this TV season, and ranks No. 3 amongst all broadcast sitcoms”
Shows aren’t renewed or cancelled based on quality or lack therefore. Its thier most watched comedy and they have few comedy shows and pilots. Also midseason shows often get a second chance
It’s actually a good show my favorite Tim Allen show actually, the only problem is the Riley character is annoying and Kats performance isn’t helping, with better writing and directing that can be fixed.
You’re right. Shifting Gears sucks. I can’t stand her voice. She’s not funny. Like she waits for the laugh track. It was the same with 2 Broke Girls. She can’t act
So far, this season of The Rookie has been fantastic. So glad they didn’t make wait on pins and needles to hear about a renewal. Watched a couple episodes of Dr Odyssey. OMG it’s like a train wreck.
Putting Will Trent and The Rookie midseason with an almost uninterrupted run was such a good move for ABC. Will Trent even increased in viewership from last season, which is unreal right now for any show on its third season.
I don’t watch Will Trent, but I have to agree. Getting The Rookie without all those breaks has been fantastic, even though we had to wait till January. I’d be ok if they did that again for season 8
I’m so happy about 911! Even tho it is not surprising they would renew the IT girl of their shows :D I’m very curious when the show will give us Buck and Eddie getting together (finallly)
I’m surprised to learn that Grey’s Anatomy ranks last. Will Trent is such a great show, and High Potential was top-notch. Waiting to see how shows on other networks will fair.
It doesn’t help that it has a weaker lead-in with Doctor Oddysey compared to last year with 9-1-1. It’s only edge is that it is a long-running drama and a show they can reliably put at almost any timeslot.
I’m happy about all of the shows that have been renewed. They deserve it.
As for Doctor Odyssey I could hardly even get through the first episode. But I watched it and then watched the next show, or tried but I couldn’t get through 15 minutes. What a very stupid show.
I’m very happy about the shows that have been renewed. I watch them and love them.
As for Doctor Odyssey I watched the first show and it wasn’t easy. I started to watch the second but I couldn’t get through 15 minutes. What a completely stupid unnecessary show.

Between 1 and 99
Please please renew Dr. Odyssey. I love that show. Don’t disappoint its fans. Please!!!!
Please please don’t cancel Dr.Odyssey…Im 71 and it’s my favorite…
I’d assume Doc Odyssey will eventually get renewed
It’s on the bubble cause it’s exspensive
And ratings are just so-so. It’s only doing slightly better than Grey’s in live viewers, despite having a better timeslot, and it doesn’t do nearly as well on streaming.
Yes that too
That’s because it’s mainly a cast of couples and crew members and passengers who get it on as much as possible I would have loved to see a large outbreak of a nasty STD or Aids…one that includes rashes etc. e, and given the last few eps….without protection. How does the performance of doctor odyssey compare to station 19 last year?
Odyssey doesn’t do it for me personally. Love Joshua Jackson but it doesn’t hook me at all.
Good actor but his character is actually the weak spot for me
well the pilot was god awful the show more focus on salaciiousness than telling a quality story…it was utter garbage…
Doctor Odyssey could be a great show. Joshua Jackson is the best thing! However, it needs to be more quirky and in order to do that, needs to go to streaming services so they can make it non-PG.
Pretty quirky as it stands, at least for OTA TV. Great guests, too. This ain’t your mama’s Love Boat!
‘Fringe’, ‘Dawson’s creek are one shows joshua was in.
I’m happy about High Potential and anxious for Doctor Odyssey.
It’s corny but different. It’s the 21st century version of The Love Boat.
I wanna love it but they are all over the place. The doctor having a 3-some with his direct reports was a horrible idea. I started to let the episodes pile up on my DVR. Shifting Gears so bad. Typical of ABC to renew it.

Be quiet, Matt! No one asked your opinion. Keep watching the Hallmark series with your mom.
Don’t be a jerk
Shows aren’t renewed or cancelled based on quality or lack therefore. Its thier most watched comedy and they have few comedy shows and pilots. Also midseason shows often get a second chance
Anything with Kat Dennings is bad.
It’s actually a good show my favorite Tim Allen show actually, the only problem is the Riley character is annoying and Kats performance isn’t helping, with better writing and directing that can be fixed.
I stuck with the first season, and it has improved from the first episodes. Not anywhere near my favorite, but it’s more watchable now.
I don’t like Shifting Gears at all. It feels like he has to work hard to get a laugh. Too much of Tim Allen’s political views
You’re right. Shifting Gears sucks. I can’t stand her voice. She’s not funny. Like she waits for the laugh track. It was the same with 2 Broke Girls. She can’t act
Happy Shifting Gears is renewed
I’d let Odyssey sink. Airing this cringefest should be illegal. Makes me miss Station 19 and I wasn’t even that big of a fan.
I’ve taken it out of my queue. Last weeks episode was the nail in the coffin for me. As much as I love Joshua Jackson, I can’t with this one.
Miss prodigal very much . .. .some stuff just don’t work out
So far, this season of The Rookie has been fantastic. So glad they didn’t make wait on pins and needles to hear about a renewal. Watched a couple episodes of Dr Odyssey. OMG it’s like a train wreck.
Happy for Grey’s and 911. My guess is Grey’s stay’s at 10, Odyssey is canceled or moved, and the 911 spin-off goes to Thursdays at 9.
Great news! ABC really knocked Tuesday nights out of the park this season!
Tuesday with Will Trent, High Potential, & The Rookie was the best line up ABC had this year and possibly for a couple years now.
We have to have season 2 of Dr Odessey we have to know about the baby and how all this will turn out with the other baby also don’t be cruel please.
Doctor Odyssey
Bye Bye Bye 👋
So happy for Will Trent and The Rookie, they make a great pair with High Potential, I hope they bring back that line up together again.
I am so excited for Will Trent and High Potential. Plus Matlock. My wife and I are excited for the renewal of our favorite shows. #trumpisajoke
I’m so happy about 911! Even tho it is not surprising they would renew the IT girl of their shows :D I’m very curious when the show will give us Buck and Eddie getting together (finallly)
No I love Dr Odyssey. Pls don’t cancel!
I’m surprised to learn that Grey’s Anatomy ranks last. Will Trent is such a great show, and High Potential was top-notch. Waiting to see how shows on other networks will fair.

When will High Potential new episodes start again?
As a broadcast television program, Fall 2025 at soonest. –Mgmt.
I tried Doctor Odyssey and I just couldn’t get into it. I’m happy for High Potential’s renewal though!
I’m happy about all of the shows that have been renewed. They deserve it.
As for Doctor Odyssey I could hardly even get through the first episode. But I watched it and then watched the next show, or tried but I couldn’t get through 15 minutes. What a very stupid show.
People seem to be waking up from that Dr Odissey dream TVLine keeps writing about… Joshua Jackson deserves a better series.
I’m very happy about the shows that have been renewed. I watch them and love them.
As for Doctor Odyssey I watched the first show and it wasn’t easy. I started to watch the second but I couldn’t get through 15 minutes. What a completely stupid unnecessary show.
Pls renew Dr Odyssey. I really enjoy this show. It may be the same in many ways but it is the first of its kind.
