In the midst of Oscar speculation and on the heels of the Golden Globes, the Producers Guild of America has nominated producers of five films and 10 TV shows for its 1997 Golden Laurel awards.
The pic nominees are Steven Spielberg, Debbie Allen and Colin Wilson for “Amistad”; James L. Brooks, Bridget Johnson and Kristi Zea for “As Good as It Gets”; Lawrence Bender for “Good Will Hunting”; Arnon Milchan, Curtis Hanson and Michael Nathanson for “L.A. Confidential”; and James Cameron and Jon Landau for “Titanic.” The winners will receive the Darryl F. Zanuck award.

TV noms are divided between non-episodic productions and episodic series, and the awards are named after veteran TV producer Norman Fenton. In the former category, the nominees are Michael Fuchs, Nick Paleologos, Fred Zollo and Nellie Nugiel for “In the Gloaming”; Bernard Sofronski for “Mandela and deKlerk”; Robert Benedetti, Laurence Fishburne, Derek Kavanagh and Kip Konwiser for “Miss Evers’ Boys”; William Friedkin and Terence A. Donnelly for “Twelve Angry Men”; and Mark Carliner, John Frankenheimer and Julian Krainin for “George Wallace.”
In episodic TV, the nominees are Michael Cascio for “Biography”; Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana for “Homicide: Life on the Street”; Garry Shandling and Brad Grey for “The Larry Sanders Show”; David Manson and Richard Kramer for “Nothing Sacred”; and Chris Carter and R.W. Goodwin for “The X-Files.”
The awards will be presented March 3.
