Oscar-winner William Friedkin is attached to direct the William Davies-scripted thriller “Truth or Dare” for New Regency Prods.
Davies, whose writing credits include “Twins” and “The Real McCoy,” also will produce the film with New Regency.
“Truth or Dare” is a remake of the BBC telefilm of the same title.
Pic tells the story of a female lawyer who, after getting a divorce, finds herself feeling bored and frustrated. An attempt to jumpstart her life leads her to relocate to her college town of Boston, where she picks up with some old college friends. A romance ensues, but she finds herself involved in a dangerous game of deceit and murder.

It is not clear whether the film, if it goes into production, would fall under New Regency’s current Warner Bros. deal or whether it would be transferred to the company’s new distribution pact with Fox, which begins in June. Davies has completed a draft of the script, which will now be developed with Friedkin.
Friedkin — whose credits include “The Boys in the Band,” “The French Connection” (for which he won an Oscar for best director), “The Exorcist” and “Jade” — also is attached to helm the James Webb-scripted “The Rules of Engagement” for Paramount and producer Scott Rudin.
Friedkin most recently returned to the small screen to helm a remake of “12 Angry Men” for Showtime.
Friedkin is repped by ICM’s Jim Wiatt. Davies is repped by UTA and attorney Joel McKuin of Colden/McKuin.
