GT4 Car: Ford GT
From a design standpoint we can only admire the Ford GT. It's exactly what we call retro-techno--a vehicle that's in essence a remake of an older vehicle, for today's market. The GT is just that, it's exterior design is true to the car it emulates, but with more style.
Giant 19-inch rear wheels and tires not only provide massive grip but adorn the rear fenders, filling them up just right. Up front the GT loses an inch and sees 18-inch wheels. It could be a few things, including the wheel size, but the long wheelbase of 106.7 inches doesn't look all too long on the GT. But what good are those looks without the power to back them up? How's 500 ponies and 500 lb-ft torque sound? We think it sounds great. But we have a feeling they'll sound even better especially through the six-speed transmission. 0-to-60 in the GT is in less than five seconds. Where's there's good news there is always bad news. The good news is that the Ford GT will be a reality in the near futture. The bad news is that you can't have one. Well, maybe you can, but we don't know if you're ready to fork out the price of a home for this car. MSRP is expected to be in the $125,000 neighborhood.
But with only 125 of these appearing in showrooms we really don't see anyone paying sticker. Interesting, about those allocated units, 100 are already spoken for in that they will appear at specific showrooms. The remaining 25 will be assigned to dealers by the method of "lottery." This is one American car that we really can't classify as an American muscle car. It goes way beyond that into the realm of Le Mans-worth supercar and it's worthy of notice. It's just a cryin' shame that we won't see enough of these on the road. But maybe that's what Ford wants. For the time being, and for most regular Americans, we can always "drive" the GT in GT4
