t=()Most of the basics of the game engine is in place, so it’s time to flesh this game out into something more gamey. More content, more exploration, more things to do, and interesting combat! Once this update is out, there will only some tweaks, optimizations and code cleanups left to the core game before we can call it a full release.
We’ve got a list of some 40+ things we want to add to the game, some small, some big. Some huge. We’ve finished a fair number of the items, but there’s still a significant amount of work left. While I can’t reveal the date yet for various reasons, we do have a release date for the Adventure Update in mind, and we’re hoping we’ll be able to hit it.
Jens and I are keeping the exact contents of the update secret, but we do leak some information every now and then to keep people interested and to stop us from going insane. For the most immediate spoilers, you can follow us on Twitter (@notch and @jeb_), or on Google+ (+Markus Persson and +Jens Bergensten).
Here are a few of the things we’ve revealed so far:
- NPC villages
- Randomly generated dungeons
- New biome code
- Fully working Creative Mode (and individual admins can enter Creative Mode on a Survival Mode server if they choose)
- Critical hits
- Sprinting
- More farming options
As soon as I can reveal the release date we’re aiming for, I will!
Oh, and the modding support is happening, honest. -Source: Notch
+ Added pistonsHerobrine, oh poor Herobrine. The mysterious ghost in the machine that is Minecraft. Have no fear, you can't kill a ghost. Notch keeps trying, but his evil twin always lives on.
+ Fire or redstone is now required to trigger TNT
+ Fences can be stacked
+ Added shears
+ Shears can be used to pick up leaf blocks
+ Shears can be used to shear sheep without hurting them
* Sheep no longer drop wool from being punched
- Removed Herobrine
After 1.8, we’ll have to start crunching for the full release in November. That includes finishing up the mod api, improving stability and performance, adding supporting features like friends lists and a proper server browser, integrating singleplayer and multiplayer, and most importantly fleshing out the gameplay.
Since 1.8 is still a significant time away, we’re going to have to stop being as secretive about it as we have. We’ll provide information about it as we go, but we’ll keep actual details secret. So, for example, we could say “added two new colors” without saying which ones, or “testing experience and leveling to see if it’s fun” without giving details on exactly how it works.
The update is pretty big, and will change a lot of how Minecraft is played, focusing on making exploration and combat much more rewarding, and bringing in a bigger sense of adventure to the game.
Already implemented are new complex terrain features, at least one new mob, some interesting new combat mechanics, a new lighting engine, and some experimental new gameplay ideas. To come is more interesting farming, bigger incentives to explore, and npc villages.
Though the story of Minecraft’s development is unique, equally so are the stories of those who play the game. They may take it to unexpected places and push the limits of its design; or they may find the game itself changing their lives in unexpected ways.
2 Player Productions is putting out an open call for Minecraft players to send us your personal stories about how the game has impacted your life. These stories will be collected and considered for inclusion in “Minecraft: The Story of Mojang,” the new feature-length documentary in development by 2 Player Productions.
Please submit your story in 350 words or less to minecraft@2playerproductions.com
Not all submissions will be used in the film, but they will be read and considered.

Unless there are any emergency things to fix, I won’t do any more updates before 1.7. Going to E3 on Saturday.
I will be bringing my laptop to do some development, but I won’t be able to do much testing.

We’re thinking about how to celebrate reaching the release on 2011/11/11. There’s also a significant lack of a MinecraftCon this year. Perhaps we can combine them?Just remember to come up with a logical (non-geeky) explanation as to why you're dragging a big Diamond Shovel with you through the airport, I don't imagine they'll care that you want to farm some Sandstone while in the area!
So we’re thinking of perhaps setting up a MinecraftCon in Las Vegas on 2011/11/11, with all of Mojang going there, and us pushing out the final release live on stage or something. There’d be contests (costume, speed building, whatever else), Q&A; sessions, parties and awesome food and such. This would be a great opportunity to both celebrate the release, and to meet the fans up close again.
It’d probably cost about 90 dollars per person, excluding hotel room and travel costs, although it’s possible we might be able to set up bulk deals with some hotel.
It’s a bit hard to guess how many people would be interested in something like this, so here’s a poll
You will need to update both your servers and clients. Check out the goodies already discovered by fans but not included in the official release notes:Weather (rain, snow, thunder) Statistics Achievements Detector rail Booster rail Performance improvements
More statistics and achievements will be added over time as we develop the game. They’re only stored locally at the moment, but we’ll slowly be rolling out online storing of achievements over time.
Bugs (Possibly)Before you freak out, weather is actually fairly uncommon. Videos are cropping up of what people are finding in game for weather already, however creating a new map and hoping to spawn with a weather system activated is not panning out for most people.Blocks can not be placed on blocks of dirt that also have snow on them, clean that snow off first. Achievements are buggy on multiplayer games
New Features and ChangesYou can no longer climb ladders with gaps in them Performance related: New video settings are implemented. GUI Scalingx4 and Advanced OpenGL can now be toggled Saddles can now be crafted New Saplings (birch and pine) Grass on side of dirt blocks Some new sound effects. Ambient ones included (prepare to be creeped out in caves!) New Animations: Chickens peck for food off of the ground now Passive Animals had their max health lowered (easier kills) SMP: New option in your server properties: Allow Flight - Admin and Mods can now toggle permissions for... well, flying!
"Hey, no inferring anything! I woke up going 'mff, I'm being sued? F**k!' Worst PR stunt ever imho. Except GoW 3's! ;-)" -Arcus Response via TwitterThe tweet from Arcus was in response to a random tweeter going by the name of 'Quimby' tossing out a tweet that read "If @Fortress_Craft hasn't dropped Keemstar now, I think it's safe to assume that it was all planned with Arcus's full knowledge".
#1 -@TheSneakyOnion: @notch Why would you sue Fortress Craft? What's the matter? Not enough vacation money? The light-hearted humor continues to play out in response to the rumors of Mojang being on a legal rampage, but I can't help but chuckle of Arcus being taken by surprise by his 'Official PR' person resorting to eye-rolling measures to garner publicity. Yes, it worked as we're all writing about it.... but really using the rule of "any publicity is good publicity" is not going to pan out overly well for you! Especially when DJ Keemstar goes on to tweet this after the fact:
#1 -@notch: @TheSneakyOnion what?
#2 -@notch: We're not currently suing anyone as far as I know. Weird rumors.
#3 -@notch: Yep, I just asked Carl to make sure. We're not suing anyone.
#1 -@bkkkk: @notch sounds like a funny conversation, "Carl are we suing anyone?" "no" "Carl says were not suing anyone"
#4 -@notch: @bkkkk It's good having a CEO :D
"@TBMatt Trolling the Trolls (Notch is going to sue you X10000 ) i give the people what they want and still cry? haha Sold 10k yesterday! FTW" -DJKeemstar TweetBravo, at least I was entertained. Regardless of what you intend to do for game ideas in the future ProjectorGames... you need a PR person with a clue.
"it wont go away .. I look like a upside down Pinocchio" -DJKeemstar Tweet
"Everyone is calling us a ripoff and thief's .How more bad can it get? sold another 10k copys with that stunt! With no Shame!" -DJKeemstar Tweet
