Mega Man 10 Guide

by Colin Moriarty

The 8-bit old-schoolers of the world have spoken. And boy, did they do so decisively. When Capcom released the NES-style Mega Man 9 back in 2008, they did it as a piece of one-off fan service, and no matter how good the game was (and it was very, very good), no one expected another 8-bit offering in the core series. And yet, here it is. Mega Man 10 can be found on WiiWare, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade in all of its retro glory. And, it, too, is very good.

But Mega Man 10 has what Mega Man 9, and the eight Mega Man games before it had -- extreme difficulty. You're going to need to learn all of the ins and outs of the game just to survive. And that's where we come in. In addition to our robust Basics section and our complete walkthrough, our guide also covers all of the Robot Masters' weaknesses, the order you should conquer the stages, and all of the information you want to romp through the game's ending levels. We even have video of each and every stage, all boss fights, and much, much more. When you combine that with our Arsenal section, the 411 on all of the Robot Masters, coverage for the Time Attack and Challenges modes, and all of the Achievements and Trophies information you could possibly want, what you have is an incredibly complete Mega Man 10 guide. All thanks to IGN Guides.

Read MoreCommon questions...

» Q: How do I play as Proto Man? How about as Bass?
A: Mega Man 10 introduces three playable characters for the first time in the core series' extensive history. You can select Mega Man or Proto Man when starting a new game rather easily, so that's pretty self-explanatory. As for Bass, you'll need to download him for a small fee when that DLC is available. You can then play through as Bass instead of either Mega Man or Proto Man, giving Mega Man 10 a total of three unique, playable characters.
» Q: How do I unlock Hard Difficulty?
A: To unlock Hard Difficulty, which makes Mega Man 10 harder than any core Mega Man game before it, you're going to need to beat the game once through with Mega Man on Normal Difficulty. Once you do that, Hard Difficulty will be available for your use with any playable character from there on out. Be wary, though! Hard Difficulty is just that -- extremely hard.
» Q: What Robot Master should I start out with? Are there multiple orders through the game?
A: This is a fairly common question -- in fact, it's probably the most common question in regard to any core Mega Man game. While our walkthrough covers this in-depth, let's just say that you'll want to start out with Sheep Man and go from there (to Pump Man, and then to Solar Man, and so on and so forth). Mega Man 10 isn't like Mega Man 2 or Mega Man 3, with another reasonable way through the Robot Masters. If you're insistent on finding a new way through, however, we recommend starting with Commando Man and working your way through from there. Whatever works for you!
