Today Christians around the world celebrate their holiest day, Easter. Americans celebrate the holiday by decorating eggs, so in that tradition our Pop Quiz for the weekend was to create an Easter egg in HeroMachine. Some folks went for the historic look while others took an approach more out of left field. Where presumably they’re finding hidden eggs. Without further ado, here are all of our entrants!
While I love all the creativity, I am in a traditional mood today and so am going with an entry that took the approach of an actual dyed Easter egg. And that winner is … FRM!
It made me feel happy and peaceful while looking at it. So congratulations to him, a sincere thanks to all of our entrants, and a Happy Easter to those of you who celebrate it!

I don’t normally get to comment on everyone’s entries due to hectic scheduling or not having the energy after dialysis.
But today I am very Eggcited to be able to do so:
ams – love the cyborg egg. Too funny! Great use of mech parts (and color) face (I’m guessing the face looks like you?), good egg shading, nice symbol and goes with the color of the limbs and of course the bunny ears literally and figuratively tops it off!
Lime – Love the sunshine egg, would like to see this as a real decorated egg.
Haxxx5 – The Great and Powerful Lord Dumpty of Easter Federation is just too funny and well done. A very bold Egg.
Johnny Gear – Well why not a Lincoln Egg? Good likeness, I think everyone would “get” who it is.
Joshua Yoder – Love the huge camo egg and the Warrior bunny. Might have used a closed had to hold the spear though.
maniachick – AWESOME. How can this fail around a bunch of Comic Geeks? Love the stylistic way you did him too! The Heart face, triangle eyes. Color and everything really carries it across.
The Atomic Punk – Such a beautiful egg. I would love to see this “tribal tattoo” egg in my Ostara/Easter basked too! Great design, colors and shading!
meniukas – WOW! Where is your country? How long would it take to decorate an egg like that? Would you paint it? Stencil it? What?
Such a gorgeous egg! Love everything, the color, the design complete with inverted/mirror image. The base is an eggsellent touch as well (Sorry ’bout the pun)
I would love to own that egg, it belongs on a mantle or shelve or something.

FRM – Another beautiful egg. Love everything about this one, eggcept … it’s a little round more than “egg” shaped. Great work otherwise though.
Skybandit – I love your spaceship egg, but it doesnt scream Star Trek to me. More like our Shuttlecraft – which of course now has been … wait for it … scrambled!

Kytana – Love the Humpty Dumpty egg! Very cute. Great facial features and clothing. The bunny on the top hat was a good addition.

MaDPack – Talk about your “Bad eggs” LOL I think this is very kewl, I was going to do a satyr egg, and have it say “I am NOt a deviled egg, I’m a Pannish Egg!” but went with my Ostara/Easter scene instead since I had done it the night before and wanted to share it. A friend of mine did suggest the 2 sets of horns wasn’t needed, maybe one should be pointed ears and a barbed tail. This of course, is just an opinion. Keep it as is if you want, its very good as is.
NHA427 – Zombies are my least favorite number, but your Zombie egg is very effective … make me want to … hurl. LOL Great work.
Tool – I’m sure it’s just me, but I don’t get it. I’m sorry.
Myro – Your Fabrege` egg is brilliant! You really captured not only its beauty and craftsmanship, but it’s delicateness. I’m very impressed.

How to decorate an egg Pysanki-style:
last you can:
1)sketch design on paper
2)use pencil to lightly draw design on raw egg(be careful not to poke thru)
3)put melted wax (use stylus or kistka[see Wikipedia]) on whatever parts you want to stay white.
4)dip egg in the lightest of your desired dyes, checking periodically, until it is the right color. remember: the parts covered with wax will not absorb dye. DO NOT take the wax off yet.
5)now put wax over the parts you want to stay [color 1].
6) dip in next lightest color dye and repeat from step 4
7) after you have put your darkest color on the egg, melt the wax by carefully holding it next to a candle flame (not IN the flame, but close enough to see the wax get wet and shiny) and wipe the wax off with a towel or rag. DO NOT attempt to scrape the wax off. take the wax off in sections. now you should see your design in full color.
a)leave the yoke in the egg. it will dry inside, and the egg will be heavier at one end.
b) blow the yoke out. i dont know how to do this because a friend from my church always does it for me. tou may be able to look it up.

Congrats, FRM! Lots of creative and some very elaborate works. I especially like the Fabergés and Pysankis. Odd, I prefer minimalism and abstract except when it comes to decorating simple things like eggs.

Congrats FRM, and yeah, I did Pysanki eggs back in school, but it seemed like way too much work to do this every Easter. I admit a certain admiration for anyone that has that kind of patience.

@FRM oooh, I know that technique, in my country it’s usually applied in cloth or wood, but I never know that can be applied in egg, and its looks cool O.o
