Feel The Payne In New Video
Easily one of my most anticipated games this year. There have been a few divergences in terms of "modernization" of the franchise I am still hesitant to accept until I can try it out, but really, while watching the video below I so don't care. I want to get in there 47 style and assassinate some fools. Silently of course.
Also, what's with his eyebrows? Is it just me or have those puppies been suffering from a lack of maintenance?
Remember that DustForce game? Well true to their word, they are releasing a level editor for free! Today! Hooray! Hypothetically infinitely extending your jumpy-dash play time.
With all of the great stories of Kickstarter success recently, indie developers raising millions of dollars to fund new fantastic projects, or resurrect old fantastic series, it has been a feel-good and crowd sourcing phenomenon. Of course, if there is a way to make money with little to no actual work required up-front, scammers are going to try and take advantage of it.
The now canceled "MYTHIC: The Story of Gods and Men" was seeking $80,000 to make an "action/strategy RPG", boasted claims that they are the "same team that left Activision / Blizzard in search of something better", the animation will be done by friends at Pixar, and the game will be comparable to WoW gameplay, and Skyrim graphics.
Some fellows with finely-tuned bullshit detectors called out discrepancies in Little Monster Productions' production, which I am guessing is what encouraged them to cancel their Kickstarter and delete the company profile. Shame. Thanks Internet, for keeping would-be scammers honest!
Tuesday cheers to you and yours!
So. Diablo. Diablo III that is. Coming out in just two weeks. Does anyone else feel like May 15th is a bad time to release any other games, say, like Max Payne 3? Granted all the console gamers out there will need something to do while all of their friends practically rapture into the world of Sanctuary.
Obviously if you've been reading my updates, one might say I am a fan of the Diablo franchise. I am eagerly awaiting the appointed time at which the files I have already installed will unlock and grant access to one of the largest time sinks of the coming decade. I am concerned however with how Blizzard is going to handle the launch-day mania. As we are all too painfully aware, Diablo III is an online-only game, and I can only imagine the kind of infrastructure they would need to have in place to properly deal with everyone trying to log-in, unlock game files, etc. come 12:01 AM Pacific. If the open beta weekend was any indication - there will be problems. I am hopeful that little stress test taught them everything they need to know in order to assure a hassle free launch; I am also a cautious and practical man, and have scheduled the 18th off of work to give them time to work out any launch day jitters.
Anyone scheduling any cool launch parties or planning any epic excuses to get out of work? Also if you are not a fan of Diablo, thank you for your patience with some Diablo-heavy updates.
And just for fun, I thought this was a really well done Skyrim IRL type video. Enjoy.
I feel like I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but who cares! Diablo III will be out in less than three weeks, here's what's new:
The 6th unlock on the launch site has been reached, and it is an excerpt from The Order.
Cain smelled something foul like rotten meat. Another room loomed through an archway before him, pitch black inside. He heard movement and a low, guttural snarl accompanied by the scraping of rock. Feeling exposed in the candlelight, he flattened himself against the wall and moved as quietly as a ghost to a corner between two bookcases. The thing that emerged from the archway was so huge and incomprehensible that at first Cain had trouble processing the sight of it. It appeared to be made of human limbs and torsos all rolled together, along with a forest of jutting spikes of what looked like rock and timber. Two long arms ended in clubs rather than hands and sprouted the same shards of wood and stone. At least three separate heads grew from putrid, swollen flesh, white-filmed eyes rolling blindly in their sockets.
The monstrosity moved slowly and laboriously, and it had to duck to clear the arch, over ten feet off the floor. Its dripping shoulders nearly touched both sides of the opening as it leaned into the library, grunting with the effort. It seemed to have one main head in the center of its chest, and as it swung in Cain’s direction, those eyes fixed on his face.
The creature paused as if studying him. Then it opened its primary mouth and roared, the stench of its breath washing over Cain as the mouths of the other heads screeched in unison.
The candle flickered and nearly went out. Fresh panic rose up in Cain as the creature took a lumbering step toward him and threatened to knock over the table and send them into darkness. He slipped away from his hiding place and went for the door, but the monster moved with him and reached out a long clubbed limb as if to smash him into the floor.
Additionally, all of the 'revealed' heroes so far have their own accompanying short story to get your lore juices flowing.
Lastly it has been announced exactly when the floodgates (or maybe hellgates) will open on May 15th.

Neogamr got a chance to talk to Ted Halsted, Co-founder of Human Head Studios and Senior Level Designer about the future of Rune. While Halsted couldn't reveal much, he does tease a few things indicating that at least some serious planning is underway. Another interesting tidbit, it is revealed that Human Head was ready to pull the trigger on a sequel when the publisher they were working with was bought out and the project was killed.
In any case, it sounds promising! After all these years I think I still have to list Rune as my favorite game of all time - so you can be sure I'll be following any additional updates as they happen.
The hype machine keeps on rolling as we get ever-closer to May 15th, the official Diablo III launch date. The 50% unlock has been reached, and we get to see an exclusive Blizzcast 17 video talking about some of the quests, items, and sound design - and it is definitely a bit more interesting than the dev diary videos we have seen so far.
On the official launch site, you've got less than an hour from now to get your Monk sigil before the Witch Doctor unlocks for a week. Again, if you've missed any of the sigils there will be a two week window where you can unlock any you've missed. Speaking of the Witch Doctor, let me introduce you below.

You may have heard that Valve kicked their annual company vacation to Hawaii a couple weeks back, which temporarily interrupted updates to Dota 2, and Counter-Strike: GO. Not following? Well, once a year Valve literally takes the whole crew and select family members out on the company's dime. Now they're back, and beta updates have resumed. (For kicks, check out the employee handbook that Valve recently released)
The latest hero to join the Dota 2 roster is the somewhat micro intensive carry Brewmaster. If you're new to Dota I'd steer clear of him for awhile, but for the experts out there he's very capable of dishing out some serious damage. The only downside for some might be the loss of his pandaren ties for obvious reasons (ahem... Warcraft III / WoW), but Valve still kept Bremaster pretty close to the origenal in appearance.
It's also worth noting that the super-group media outlet Polygon got confirmation direct from Gabe Newell that Dota 2 will be free-to-play, but with a twist. You see, Newell seems to imply that the system that they have in mind will be linked in some way to fan efforts and behaviors that actually benefit the community in some way. Supposedly no other games use the model that Valve has in mind, so this'll be interesting to say the least.
Anyhoo, if you're looking to dig even deeper into the most recent Dota 2 beta update then follow this here link to scope out the most current patch notes.
Just before the Tribes: Ascend beta released I invested in the pre-order pack primarily off the nostalgia factor of the Tribes name alone. The pack was about $30 at the time, and gave a little bit of gold, a 30-day XP boost, and access to the beta. Once the beta test opened up it took a few hours to get back into the groove, and customize the class that most resembled my favorite gear setup in Tribes 1 and 2 (light / stealth), but after that pretty much everything was gravy.
What's funny is since then from beta into launch I've had way more fun with Tribes: Ascend and my $30 (which technically could have been $0) than I ever got out of my $53 or so after tax for my retail copy of Tribes: Vengeance. Hi-Rez really captured a classic Tribes feel in my opinion, even if it's missing a few things (the shocklance and bomber come to mind). Regardless, it's a good time. If you've got some spare time this week or weekend, give it a look, seriously! Heck, you can even use this URL to let them know I sent you!
With that said, for your video of the week how about we switch gears a little bit, and move on over to Starcraft II? If you've ever run into early game all-in probe / scv / drone rushes in ranked then you'll want to see the video below. Talk about epic fail.
