The Aquabats are almost here to save TV as we know it! This Saturday sees the debut of The Aquabats! Super Show! on The Hub, bringing the real life band and their superhero alter egos to weekly television.

You'll see The Aquabats facing all sorts of bad guys on the series and as Christian Jacobs, AKA The Aquabats' The MC Bat Commander – one of the creators of Yo Gabba Gabba -- explained to me, "We deliberately shoot our baddies and villains with a kind of dutch angle shot as an homage to the great Batman 1966. That is collectively the biggest influence on all of us working on the show. There are SO many influences and weird obscure references in the show but I think that the Adam West Batman TV show is the common ground that the band and all of our crew and creative peoples on the show have in common. It's one of the crimes of the century that it isn't digitally remastered and fully available on DVD and Blu-ray. COME ON PEOPLE!!"

Check out an exclusive clip from The Aquabats! Super Show! below, as Aquabats member Crash McLarson meets an old enemy… though he needs some reminding on just how they know each other.

When it comes to other influences on The Aquabats! Super Show!, Jacobs tells me, "Japanese pop culture has been a big influence on the show. Along with so many shows from the US, those specific Japanese shows I saw when I was just a little guy had a huge effect on my brain. Speed Racer, Battle of the Planets, Ultraman and specifically Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot (Giant Robot). That show in particular was like ... KACHOW!! Getting hit by lightning. I can still remember watching it for the first time on a sketchy TV with bad reception. It was amazing!"

As for more home grown series that helped set the tone for the series, Jacobs acknowledged, "Everything from Star Trek to Pee-wee's Playhouse. Batman to Thundarr the Barbarian and everything in between. Also, Gerry Anderson stuff. Thunderbirds, Space 1999. Black Belt Theater, Shaw Bros. movies. Master of the Flying Guillotine!!! …I guess I watched too much TV as a kid!"

The Aquabats! Super Show! premieres Saturday, March 3rd at 11am ET/8am PT on The Hub.
