Time might have been reset at the end of the last X-Men movie, but that doesn’t mean fans will never have the chance to see Patrick Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier again, as the actor revealed in a recent interview.

“I understand that it seems to be very unlikely that I will be in the next X-Men movie, which is almost getting ready to start shooting in Montreal,” Stewart confirmed to the Oregon Live website. But he did say that X-Men: Apocalypse will feature another of the “future” X-Men from last year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past: “Magneto, Ian McKellen, is certainly going to be in it,” he said.

Stewart himself isn’t done with the franchise either, it turns out. “What I’m very excited about is that we have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together,” he revealed. “Wolverine and Professor Xavier. That would be a very different sort of X-Men from the four movies that I’ve already done.”

The third solo Wolverine movie, featuring Jackman’s breakout character from the franchise, has been in development since the 2013 release of The Wolverine, but this is the first time the idea of a Wolverine/Professor Xavier team-up plotline has been mentioned publicly.

The next Wolverine movie, as yet untitled, is scheduled for a 2017 release, following next year’s Deadpool, X-Men: Apocalypse and Gambit entries in the X-Men franchise.
