DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1710Z June 6, 2024

SMOKE:
Central Florida/Canada…
A light to moderate smoke plume was observed this morning. The smoke
was observed trending eastward toward the Atlantic Ocean.

Quebec…
Two areas of wildfires were observed within the Quebec Province of
Canada. One was in central Quebec and emanated light smoke that was
trending northward within Quebec Province. The second wildfire was
in southeastern Quebec and emanated light to moderate smoke that was
trending north/northwest.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Mexico/Gulf of Mexico/Central America/Central and Southwestern United
States/Pacific Ocean...
Numerous smoke plumes related to agricultural burning were observed across
much of Mexico and adjacent Central America this morning. This smoke
combined with a large amount of remnant smoke, as well as aerosols from a
variety of sources, to create a large mass of light to moderate density
smoke covering much of Mexico, northern Central America, south-central
and southwestern United States, the Gulf of Mexico, and adjacent coastal
waters of the Pacific Ocean.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
