The King held a Council at 9.45am.

There were present: the Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer MP (Prime Minister), the Rt Hon Angela Rayner MP, the Rt Hon Rachel Reeves MP, the Rt Hon Patrick McFadden MP, the Rt Hon David Lammy MP, the Rt Hon Yvette Cooper MP, the Rt Hon John Healey MP and the Baroness Smith of Basildon.

Ms Shabana Mahmood, Ms Elizabeth Kendall, Ms Lisa Nandy and Ms Lucy Powell were sworn in or made affirmation as members of His Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council.

The King declared in Council the Rt Hon Lucy Powell MP Lord President of the Council, who made affirmation and kissed hands on her appointment.

The Rt Hon Keir Starmer MP made affirmation as First Lord of the Treasury.

The following took the Oath of Office or made affirmation, kissed hands upon appointment and received the Seals of Office: the Rt Hon Angela Rayner MP (as Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities), the Rt Hon Rachel Reeves MP (as Chancellor of the Exchequer), the Rt Hon David Lammy MP (as Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs), the Rt Hon Yvette Cooper MP (as Secretary of State for the Home Department), the Rt Hon John Healey MP (as Secretary of State for Defence), the Rt Hon Shabana Mahmood MP (as Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice), the Rt Hon Elizabeth Kendall MP (as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions), the Rt Hon Lisa Nandy MP (as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport) and the Baroness Smith of Basildon (as Leader of the House of Lords and Lord Privy Seal).

Mr Richard Tilbrook was in attendance as Clerk of the Council.

The Rt Hon Sir Clive Alderton (Principal Private Secretary to Their Majesties) was in attendance.

After the Council the Rt Hon Patrick McFadden MP had an audience of The King and took the Oath of Office, kissed hands on appointment and received the Seals of Office as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.

Later The King received members of the West Indies Cricket Team.

The Prince of Wales, President, the Football Association, having been received at Düsseldorf Airport by Mr Nicholas Russell (His Majesty’s Consul-General for Düsseldorf), this evening attended the Union of European Football Associations Euro 2024 Quarter Final Game between England and Switzerland at Düsseldorf Arena, Arena-Strasse, Düsseldorf, Germany.

The Duke of Edinburgh, Royal Honorary Colonel, The Royal Wessex Yeomanry, today attended a Memorial Service at the Cote 112 Memorial, Vieux, France, and laid a wreath to commemorate the Eightieth Anniversary of those who fell in the Battle for Hill 112 on 12th July, 1944.

Captain James Martin was in attendance.
