Kia Philippines barged its way into the subcompact crossover segment right at the height of the pandemic with the launch of the Stonic. As well as that model did for the brand, though, it’s officially been replaced as of today with the all-new Sonet.
Interestingly enough, the Sonet made its global debut right around the time the Stonic landed in our market. It’s undergone a refresh since, though, and now has a slightly more aggressive-looking design. The tiger-nose grille has a more modern look, and it’s flanked by rather stylish headlights with trims that also house the fog lamps underneath. All this matched at the rear by the taillights and plastic underbody claddings, giving the Sonet a very hip look overall.

Under the hood, the Sonet is powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine that generates 113hp at 6,300rpm and 144Nm of torque at 4,500rpm. This powertrain is standard across the range and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission in the base variant and an intelligent variable transmission (IVT) in the other variants.
Also standard in the lineup are niceties like the eight-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and the 4.2-inch TFT LCD instrument cluster. In the top-of-the-line trim, the Sonet comes packed with a 10.25-inch head unit paired with a 10.25-inch digital cluster, as well as a host of safety features including lane-keep and lane-follow assist, forward-collision avoidance assist, and driver attention warning.
There are four variants available at launch, with prices starting at P758,000. You can check out the full price list below. What do you guys think of Kia’s newest offering?
