Dubai Industrial City launched ABU DHABI, 24 Nov, 04 (WAM) - Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence has given orders to establish a comprehensive industrial city in Dubai under the name of Dubai Industrial City.
The step is aimed at catalysing the growth of the industrial development in the UAE and to transform the country into an industrial hub attracting entrepreneurs, manufacturers, producers and investors from all around the world.
Mohammed Al Gergawi, Chairman of Dubai Development and Investment Authority (DDIA) and CEO of Dubai Holding said, "His Highness Sheikh Mohammed has given directives to establish the Dubai Industrial City. It will be spread over an area of 560 million square feet and will be equipped with comprehensive infrastructure in line with his vision to transform this sector to one the most active drivers for economic development' according to a statement issued today.
"The establishment of this city is in line with UAE's strategic plans to diversify its economy and catalyse the role of non-oil sectors such as tourism, trade and industry, to accelerate the economic growth in the country under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE," he said.
Al Gergawi added, "Establishment of the Dubai Industrial City comes after many studies that the DDIA conducted covering all the issues connected to the industrial sector, locally, regionally and internationally. These studies have confirmed that there are huge opportunities to enlarge local and regional investments opportunities and to attract foreign investments to the industrial sector. We would need to deal with the challenges that prevent the growth of this sector and offer the right environment and facilities in this field." He said, "H.H. Sheikh Mohammed orders that the Dubai Industrial City must have an active business environment to meet the investors' needs. We need to promote the growth of industries for export and to contribute to the existing industries." The Dubai Crown Prince has ordered the city to be built on a huge area of 560 million sq. ft. near the Jebel Ali Port and close to the highways that connect Dubai to other Emirates for easy access and transport of raw materials and manufactured products.
The City will benefit from the unique advantages of UAE including its strategic geographical location which includes more than 1.3 trillion consumers around it, tax-free status for UAE products in many regional markets, easy import of raw material and export of finished products through a number of airlines and ships connecting the country all around the world and a network of roads connecting UAE with the region.
Al Gergawi said, "Dubai Government will be responsible for the infrastructure of the Dubai Industrial City as it is committed to offer a good environment for business growth. The City will play an active role in supporting exports through international promotional programmes under the slogan 'Made in UAE'. The City will also work to remove obstacles that prevent local products from accessing international markets by implementing exiting agreements between the UAE and other countries or through communications with the industrial authorities and financial organisations all around the world." Besides that, the companies operating from Dubai Industrial City will get many benefits including a single window service, easy regulations and transparency and long lease for land and buildings.
The City management will support the industries working in it in many fields including provision of fund options, developing the industrial education and training programmes and plans for future activities for research and development.
Al Gergawi said, "Dubai Industrial City will be one of the active drivers to catalyse foreign direct investment (FDI) and attract new technology.
Dubai Industrial City will build on the great success that countries of South East Asia have achieved by becoming the most active industrial centers in the world." He added, "The industrial sector is one of the biggest sectors that is ready for development in coming years. Our region has many advantages to become an active industrial centre, which attracts investments from all round the world. We have a huge number of consumers in the region from the Indian Subcontinent to North Africa. Besides, the low cost of energy is one of the most important elements for establishing an active industrial sector." The Chairman of DDIA assured that Dubai Industrial City will not only attract FDI but it will also offer unique investment opportunities to attract back the estimated US $1 trillion in Arab investments that are parked outside the Arab world.. He said, "We know that bringing back these investments is connected with offering attractive investment opportunities in the region."
